Book Changing Educational Contexts Issues and Identities

Download or read book Changing Educational Contexts Issues and Identities written by Michael Crossley and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2007-01-24 with total page 431 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Documenting major intellectual and paradigmatic changes in the field of comparative education in the light of the history and development of the journal Comparative Education, this book compiles a selection of articles from forty years of the journal’s distinguished history. It illustrates how changing times have been reflected in the nature and quality of published comparative research. Contributors explore the impact of key issues such as marketisation, accountability and globalisation upon policy and practice world-wide. They explore how new challenges faced by the social sciences have seen shifts in the contexts, issues and priorities attended to by comparatives and how different approaches to comparative education have influenced the intellectual and professional identities and positioning of those involved. Bridging theoretically oriented scholarship with empirically grounded research relating to issues of policy and practice and with chapters addressing questions of relevance throughout the world, this book is an invaluable resource of ideas and stimuli for further thinking and research.

Book Managing God s Higher Learning

Download or read book Managing God s Higher Learning written by Dong Wang and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2007 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Managing GodOs Higher Learning offers a distinct empirical study of Lingnan University and addresses issues of adaptation and integration. Author, Dong Wang, demonstrates that many aspects of Lingnan _ governance, links with the local society, financial management, education for women _ have either never been made the subject of scholarly discussion or are different from what we think we know about U.S.-China relations in the past. As the first co-educational institution of higher learning in China, Lingnan made monumental strides in the management of programs for women, a fact which confounds the assumptions made by China historians. The author argues that LingnanOs growth, resilience and success can partly be accounted for by entrepreneurial operations. Wang also contends that Lingnan found ways to adapt and 'layer' a Christian presence at a time when the nationalization and secularization of higher education was making rapid headway. Based on information from archives located across the Pacific, this book will appeal to scholars of Chinese history as well as those interested in Sino-American relations.

Book Keeping the Nation s House

Download or read book Keeping the Nation s House written by Helen M. Schneider and published by UBC Press. This book was released on 2011-03-01 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The term home economics often conjures images of sterile classrooms where girls learn to cook dinner and swaddle dolls, far removed from the seats of power. Helen Schneider unsettles this assumption by revealing how Chinese women helped to build a nation, one family at a time. From the 1920s to the early 1950s, home economists transformed the most fundamental of political spaces the home by teaching women to nurture ideal families and manage projects of social reform. Although their discipline came undone after 1949, it created a legacy of gendered professionalism and reinforced the idea that leaders should shape domestic rituals of the people.

  • ISBN : 9356974721
  • Pages : 585 pages

Download or read book Education Mania written by Joshua Flapan and published by Ukiyoto Publishing. This book was released on with total page 585 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Education Mania attempts to explain how the university degree has become the new doctor. It explores solutions and subject areas that prove a doctor is the new college. The solutions include having a college to nothing, precision education, getting rid of school buses, child labor, and apprenticeships. An example of a college to nothing is when a professor leads the criminal justice system to discover a way to treat prisoners better, then a janitor with nothing cleans the jail floors. You could have no educational attainment and become a neurosurgeon. You don’t necessarily have to be an janitor with no formal school? An example of an apprentice would be a resident who trains with an experienced physician.

Download or read book The Power of Words written by Glen Peterson and published by UBC Press. This book was released on 2011-11-01 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a social and political history of the struggle for literacy in rural China from 1949 until 1994. It aims to show how China's revolutionary leaders conceived and promoted literacy in the countryside and how villagers made use of the literacy education and schools they were offered. Rather than focusing narrowly on educational issues alone, Peterson examines the larger significance of P.R.C. literacy efforts by situating the literacy movement within the broad context of major themes and issues in the social and political history of post-1949 China. Following the recent trend toward regional and local history, this book focuses on the linguistically diverse, socially complex, and politically awkward southeastern coastal province of Guangdong. As well, Peterson conducted interviews with local officials and teachers in several Guangdong counties in 1988 and 1989.
