Book Simple Edgeworth Approximations for Semiparametric Averaged Derivatives

Download or read book Simple Edgeworth Approximations for Semiparametric Averaged Derivatives written by Chuan Goh and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This note proposes a computationally simple empirical Edgeworth expansion for the limiting distribution of a Studentized estimator of a semiparametric single index model. The estimator in question is the density-weighted averaged derivative estimator implemented according to the method of Powell, Stock and Stoker (1989). The coefficients of the expansion are derived from the cumulants of a bootstrapped estimate of the distribution of the Studentized estimator. Monte Carlo evidence indicates finite-sample performance comparable to that of the empirical Edgeworth expansions proposed by Nishiyama and Robinson (2000).

Book Handbook of Quantile Regression

Download or read book Handbook of Quantile Regression written by Roger Koenker and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-10-12 with total page 739 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Quantile regression constitutes an ensemble of statistical techniques intended to estimate and draw inferences about conditional quantile functions. Median regression, as introduced in the 18th century by Boscovich and Laplace, is a special case. In contrast to conventional mean regression that minimizes sums of squared residuals, median regression minimizes sums of absolute residuals; quantile regression simply replaces symmetric absolute loss by asymmetric linear loss. Since its introduction in the 1970's by Koenker and Bassett, quantile regression has been gradually extended to a wide variety of data analytic settings including time series, survival analysis, and longitudinal data. By focusing attention on local slices of the conditional distribution of response variables it is capable of providing a more complete, more nuanced view of heterogeneous covariate effects. Applications of quantile regression can now be found throughout the sciences, including astrophysics, chemistry, ecology, economics, finance, genomics, medicine, and meteorology. Software for quantile regression is now widely available in all the major statistical computing environments. The objective of this volume is to provide a comprehensive review of recent developments of quantile regression methodology illustrating its applicability in a wide range of scientific settings. The intended audience of the volume is researchers and graduate students across a diverse set of disciplines.

Book Edgeworth Expansions for Semiparametric Whittle Estimation of Long Memory

Download or read book Edgeworth Expansions for Semiparametric Whittle Estimation of Long Memory written by Liudas Giraitis and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The semiparametric local Whittle or Gaussian estimate of the long memory parameter is known to have especially nice limiting distributional properties, being asymptotically normal with a limiting variance that is completely known. However in moderate samples the normal approximation may not be very good, so we consider a refined, Edgeworth, approximation, for both a tapered estimate, and the original untapered one. For the tapered estimate, our higher-order correction involves two terms, one of order 1/amp;√m (where m is the bandwidth number in the estimation), the other a bias term, which increases in m; depending on the relative magnitude of the terms, one or the other may dominate, or they may balance. For the untapered estimate we obtain an expansion in which, for m increasing fast enough, the correction consists only of a bias term. We discuss applications of our expansions to improved statistical inference and bandwidth choice. We assume Gaussianity, but in other respects our assumptions seem mild.

Book Semiparametric Regression for the Applied Econometrician

Download or read book Semiparametric Regression for the Applied Econometrician written by Adonis Yatchew and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2003-06-02 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an accessible collection of techniques for analyzing nonparametric and semiparametric regression models. Worked examples include estimation of Engel curves and equivalence scales, scale economies, semiparametric Cobb-Douglas, translog and CES cost functions, household gasoline consumption, hedonic housing prices, option prices and state price density estimation. The book should be of interest to a broad range of economists including those working in industrial organization, labor, development, urban, energy and financial economics. A variety of testing procedures are covered including simple goodness of fit tests and residual regression tests. These procedures can be used to test hypotheses such as parametric and semiparametric specifications, significance, monotonicity and additive separability. Other topics include endogeneity of parametric and nonparametric effects, as well as heteroskedasticity and autocorrelation in the residuals. Bootstrap procedures are provided.

This book was released on 2007-12-29 with total page 482 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kosorok’s brilliant text provides a self-contained introduction to empirical processes and semiparametric inference. These powerful research techniques are surprisingly useful for developing methods of statistical inference for complex models and in understanding the properties of such methods. This is an authoritative text that covers all the bases, and also a friendly and gradual introduction to the area. The book can be used as research reference and textbook.
