Book Watershed Resources Management

Download or read book Watershed Resources Management written by K. William Easter and published by Institute of Southeast Asian Studies. This book was released on 1991 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today, a systemwide approach to watershed resource management is essential. As recent history has shown, the usual mixture of biophysical management measures are often constrained by institutional factors, frequently producing limited results. This book offers important management alternatives, examining this resource problem within an economic framework, using an interdisciplinary approach. Part I introduces the basic economic, biophysical, social, institutional, and policy aspects of watershed management. Part II illustrates specific watershed approaches through selected case studies from Asia and the Pacific.

Book Urban Hydrology Watershed Management and Socio Economic Aspects

Download or read book Urban Hydrology Watershed Management and Socio Economic Aspects written by Arup K. Sarma and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-10-25 with total page 363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book brings together high-quality research articles on advanced hydrological analysis, advanced computational methods, and the ecological and sociological aspects of urban watershed management under one umbrella. The rapid pace of urbanization, not accompanied by any farsighted, holistic plan, has reduced many cities in the developing world into multi-hazard areas. The most perceptible consequence of urbanization is the change in land-use and land cover, which in turn impacts hydrological systems. Accordingly, scientific studies on urban hydrology with due emphasis on ecological and sociological aspects under changing climate are vital to the appropriate design of urban landscapes and civil infrastructure works. This book addresses precisely these issues, offering a useful guide for environmentalists, hydrologists, and a broad range of socio-economic scientists exploring the environmental vulnerabilities arising from urbanization.

Book Reservoir Sedimentation

Download or read book Reservoir Sedimentation written by G.W. Annandale and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1987-01-01 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research on reservoir sedimentation in recent years has been aimed mainly at water resources projects in developing countries. These countries, especially in Africa, often have to cope with long droughts, flash floods and severe erosion problems. Large reservoir capacities are required to capture water provided by flash floods so as to ensure the supply of water in periods of drought. The problem arising however is that these floods, due to their tremendous stream power, carry enormous volumes of sediment which, due to the size of reservoirs, are virtually deposited in toto in the reservoir basin, leading to fast deterioration of a costly investment. Accurate forecasting of reservoir behaviour is therefore of the utmost importance. This book fills a gap in current literature by providing in one volume comprehensive coverage of techniques required to practically investigate the effects sediment deposition in reservoirs has on the viability of water resources projects. Current techniques for practically estimating sediment yield from catchments, estimating the volume of sediment expected to deposit in reservoirs, predicting sediment distribution and calculating scour downstream of reservoirs are evaluated and presented. The liberal use of diagrams and graphs to explain the various techniques enhances understanding and makes practical application simple. A major feature of the book is the application of stream power theory to explain the process of reservoir sedimentation and to develop four new methods for predicting sediment distribution in reservoirs. The book is primarily directed at practising engineers involved in the planning and design of water resources projects and at post-graduate students interested in this field of study.
