Book Current and Future Economic Benefits of British Columbia Parks Update

Download or read book Current and Future Economic Benefits of British Columbia Parks Update written by and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study updates and extends a previous report that reviewed the economic contribution of provincial parks to the British Columbia economy. It begins with an overview of the provincial park system and presents a qualitative analysis of the recreational, conservation, and heritage benefits resulting from parks and ecological reserves. Where appropriate, specific types of social and economic benefits related to these topics are identified. It then outlines the indicators used to measure the parks' economic impacts and their associated benefits, and presents quantitative estimates of economic activity attributable to the provincial parks. The estimates are made using an input/output model that incorporates input/output data from Statistics Canada along with additional data concerning employment and tax flows from other government sources. Finally, the study forecasts future economic benefits from the provincial parks under two scenarios of potential economic activity, based on the year 2002. The appendix includes additional details on the economic measures used in the analysis.

Book Second Growth

Download or read book Second Growth written by Sean Markey and published by UBC Press. This book was released on 2007-10-01 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is drawn from a three-year participatory research project with four communities in British Columbia: two municipalities and two Aboriginal communities. It examines historical and contemporary forces of restructuring, linking the development of rural communities with the legacy of resource development and Aboriginal marginalization across the province. The book then presents the theoretical and practical dynamics of the community economic development (CED) process and outlines a variety of strategies communities can initiate to diversify their local economies. Second Growth shows that sound theoretical frameworks and tested best practices are important tools in facilitating the prospects for a second growth in rural and small-town communities.

This book was released on 2005 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of the research is to indicate the possible economic impacts that a new national park development might have, and by doing so, allow for an informed discussion of the consequences of park development. [...] The report includes an inventory of tourism facilities and services in the area of concern and then presents the forecast level of park and visitor spending for two alternative locations for the park: Wolf Lake in Yukon and Jennings Lake in British Columbia. [...] This report is not part of the Parks Canada planning process but is an effort on the part of the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society, Yukon and B. C. Chapters, and the Kaska Dena Council to provide information on the possible economic impacts if a national park is established. [...] This report presents information on the tourism facilities and services in the areas where a proposed park may be located, as well as the data gathered and analysis undertaken to estimate the possible spending by Parks Canada and the attributable spending of potential park visitors. [...] With the exception of highway pull-offs, most of the facilities/services are located in the Watson Lake area or along the Cassiar Highway.
