Book Environmental Methods for Transport Noise Reduction

Download or read book Environmental Methods for Transport Noise Reduction written by Mats Nilsson and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2014-11-20 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Presents Evidence-Based Guidance on Noise Abatement Methods Solutions for reducing the noise impact of road and rail traffic can be found in the use of natural elements in combination with artificial elements in urban and rural environments. Ground and road surface treatments; trees, forests, and tall vegetation; and the greening of buildings and other surfaces can contribute to powerful and cost-effective noise reduction. Environmental Methods for Transport Noise Reduction presents the main findings of the Holistic and Sustainable Abatement of Noise by optimized combinations of Natural and Artificial means (HOSANNA) research project. This project involved experts from seven countries, and assessed noise reduction in terms of sound level reductions, perceptual effects, and cost–benefit analysis. It considered a number of green abatement strategies, and aimed to develop a toolbox for reducing road and rail traffic noise in outdoor environments. Combines Theory with Practice Broad in both theory and application and based on leading-edge research, the book brings together the findings and their practical use. It details assessment methods for perceived noise, and outlines noise prediction methods that can be integrated with noise mapping software. It also explores the economic benefits and positive effects on urban air quality and CO2 levels. The material is this book: Includes up-to-date results on noise mitigation using vegetation and ground treatments Contains relevant results on innovative noise barrier designs Presents data on acoustic performance of vegetation and soil substratum Provides perceptual and cost–benefit analyses of noise mitigation methods Environmental Methods for Transport Noise Reduction is a helpful guide for noise consultants, city planners, architects, landscape architects, and researchers.

Book Noise Abatement Economic Policy Analysis Model

Download or read book Noise Abatement Economic Policy Analysis Model written by Andras Spiegel and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 73 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report examines the role of economic disincentive as an inducement to noise abatement. The particular disincentive analyzed is a system of noise emission charges (NEC) which is imposed at airports on commercial aircraft operations which are above maximum noise emission allowances. The methodology developed is in the form of a mathematical programming (MP) model which seeks to minimize the total cost of a disincentive-based policy. Preliminary analyses conducted with the model indicate (qualitatively) that the method of noise emission charges, administered at the airport level on operations exceeding the current noise emission standards, is an economically feasible method for inducing noise abatement. The single most critical assumption underlying this conclusion is that if the NEC administration is voluntary, then a sufficient number of airports must impose the charges. The modeling concept presented is suitable for the analysis of a broad spectrum of aviation economic policy related issues. (Author).

Book Evaluating Pavement Strategies and Barriers for Noise Mitigation

Download or read book Evaluating Pavement Strategies and Barriers for Noise Mitigation written by Paul R. Donavan and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 2013 with total page 73 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "TRB's National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Report 738: Evaluating Pavement Strategies and Barriers for Noise Mitigation presents a methodology for evaluating feasibility, reasonableness, effectiveness, acoustic longevity, and economic features of pavement strategies and barriers for noise mitigation. The methodology uses a life-cycle cost analysis to examine the economic features of mitigation alternatives, the FHWA Traffic Noise Model to integrate the noise reduction performance of pavements and barriers, and on-board sound intensity measurements as an input to the prediction model. The appendixes contained in the research agency's final report provide elaborations and detail on several aspects of the research. The appendixes are not included with the print version of the report, but are available online." --Publisher description.

Book Hedonic Methods in Housing Markets

Download or read book Hedonic Methods in Housing Markets written by Andrea Baranzini and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-09-20 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cities are growing worldwide and their sprawl is increasingly challenged for its pressure on open spaces and environmental quality. Economic arguments can help to decide about the trade-off between preserving environmental quality and developing housing and business surfaces, provided the benefits of environmental quality are adequately quantified. To this end, this book focuses on the use and advancement of the “hedonic approach”, an economic valuation technique that analyses and quantifies the sources of rent and property price differentials. Starting from theoretical foundations, the hedonic approach is applied to the valuation of natural land use preservation and noise abatement measures, as well as to residential segregation and discrimination, extending the analysis to the role of the buyers and sellers' identity on housing market prices and to the issue of environmental justice.
