Book excerpt: My name was Dr. Erica Hill. I was a victim, then a witness, and then I ceased to exist altogether. I may still be breathing, but stripped of my identity, I have long since stopped living. I am invisible, and my life depends on my ability to stay in the shadows. But he sees me. Slate Andrews is the embodiment of everything I have been taught to avoid. He's rich and famous, and one image of him with a woman would earn millions for any paparazzi lucky enough to snap it. He has vowed to protect me with his life, yet he exposes me with his every breath. I should be stronger and walk away. I should disappear. But I'm terrified he would come after me. I'm on the run, determined not to take him down with me but absolutely unable to let him go. My name is Riley Peterson...at least for today. *Among The Echoes is a stand alone novel which contains material that may be offensive to some readers. Download or read book Fading Echoes Poetry of pain recovery healing of the inner child written by Libi Zorya and published by Libi Zorya. This book was released on 2023-11-05 with total page 139 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fading Echoes is a book about childhood trauma and the healing of the inner child. It follows the stages of recovery, inspired by the five stages of grief, and ends with a chapter on self-discovery post-trauma. The poems include topics of death, depression and hopelessness but also caring and standing up for oneself. The book is a collection of poems written in a two-year-long period. The poetic rhymes capture the echoes of growing up in a religious environment and being raised by emotionally immature parents. Even though the chapters mark clear sections in the healing journey, the poems were not written in the order they were published - as healing is not linear. The title "Fading Echoes" represents how pain and suffering gradually become quieter and eventually transform into echoes, leaving more room for strength and resilience.

Download or read book Echoes of the Trauma written by Hadas Wiseman and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2008-08-18 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses the echoes of the trauma that are traced in the relational narratives that the sons and daughters of Holocaust survivors tell about their experiences growing up in survivor families. An innovative combination of the Core Conflictual Relationship Theme (CCRT) method with narrative-qualitative analysis revealed common themes and emotional patterns that are played out in the survivors' children's meaningful relationships, especially in those with their parents. The relational world of the second generation is understood in the context of an intergenerational communication style called "knowing-not knowing," in which there is a dialectical tension between knowing and not knowing the parental trauma. In the survivors' children's current parent-adolescent relationships with their own children (survivors' grandchildren), they aspire to correct the child-parent dynamics that they had experienced by trying to openly negotiate conflicts and to maintain close bonds. Clinicians treating descendents of other massive trauma would benefit from the insights offered into these complex intergenerational psychological processes.
Download or read book What My Bones Know written by Stephanie Foo and published by Ballantine Books. This book was released on 2022-02-22 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A searing memoir of reckoning and healing by acclaimed journalist Stephanie Foo, investigating the little-understood science behind complex PTSD and how it has shaped her life “Achingly exquisite . . . providing real hope for those who long to heal.”—Lori Gottlieb, New York Times bestselling author of Maybe You Should Talk to Someone ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR: The Washington Post, Cosmopolitan, NPR, Mashable, She Reads, Publishers Weekly By age thirty, Stephanie Foo was successful on paper: She had her dream job as an award-winning radio producer at This American Life and a loving boyfriend. But behind her office door, she was having panic attacks and sobbing at her desk every morning. After years of questioning what was wrong with herself, she was diagnosed with complex PTSD—a condition that occurs when trauma happens continuously, over the course of years. Both of Foo’s parents abandoned her when she was a teenager, after years of physical and verbal abuse and neglect. She thought she’d moved on, but her new diagnosis illuminated the way her past continued to threaten her health, relationships, and career. She found limited resources to help her, so Foo set out to heal herself, and to map her experiences onto the scarce literature about C-PTSD. In this deeply personal and thoroughly researched account, Foo interviews scientists and psychologists and tries a variety of innovative therapies. She returns to her hometown of San Jose, California, to investigate the effects of immigrant trauma on the community, and she uncovers family secrets in the country of her birth, Malaysia, to learn how trauma can be inherited through generations. Ultimately, she discovers that you don’t move on from trauma—but you can learn to move with it. Powerful, enlightening, and hopeful, What My Bones Know is a brave narrative that reckons with the hold of the past over the present, the mind over the body—and examines one woman’s ability to reclaim agency from her trauma.
