Book excerpt: Excerpt from Earth's Earliest Ages: And Their Connection With Modern Spiritualism and Theosophy N 1876 the author of the present volume published a smaller book, entitled Earth's Earliest Ages and Their Lessons for Us, in which his object was twofold. He first attempted to remove some of the Geological and other difficulties usually associated with the commencing chapters of Genesis; and then endeavoured to show that the characteristic features of the Days of Noah were reappearing in Christendom, and, therefore, that the Days of the Son of Man could not be far distant. For guidance in his efforts after the first of these aims, he adopted the following obvious principles - which, if they be admitted, render the interpretation easy and precise, and anticipate every possible Geological objection. I. That the first chapter of Genesis, equally with those which follow it, is, in its primary meaning, neither vision nor allegory, but plain history, and must, therefore, be accepted as a literal statement of facts. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is a life cycle that depends on eating or being eaten compatible with a creation in which 'the heavens are telling the glory of God; and the firmament proclaims His handiwork'? Are animal death and extinction manifestations of a good God's majesty and power? When creating the world, did God use animal death and extinction as a means to realize his intentions? This study challenges the view that the emergence and acceptance of the theory of evolution brought a break in thinking about animal suffering in a good creation. Even before Darwin, people thought about animal suffering, about how God's goodness and good creation related to this, and about whether animals were already subject to death in paradise. Historically, Charles Darwin's theory of evolution did not form a watershed in the debate about animal suffering, nor did concerns about animal suffering only emerge with the Darwinian theory of evolution.

Download or read book Without Form and Void written by Arthur C Custance and published by Classic Reprint Press. This book was released on 2008-08-01 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Considered a classic in Christian apologetics, this scholarly analysis of the Biblical phrase "without form and void," from the opening chapter of Genesis, observes the rules of linguistics, of grammar and syntax, and also examines how words are used in the rest of Scripture. This book has been described as the best argument that has ever been written for the Gap Theory. A well respected Canadian scientist himself, and listed in the 1971 American Men in Science, Dr. Custance contends that we should not allow science to determine what Scripture says. Neither should we allow Scripture to determine what the scientist observes in the laboratory. Yet observed fact in the one cannot, ultimately, conflict with revealed fact in the other. Any conflict, then, is in the interpretation of the facts - not in the facts themselves.
