Book Statistical Methods in e Commerce Research

Download or read book Statistical Methods in e Commerce Research written by Wolfgang Jank and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-12-29 with total page 451 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This groundbreaking book introduces the application of statistical methodologies to e-Commerce data With the expanding presence of technology in today's economic market, the use of the Internet for buying, selling, and investing is growing more popular and public in nature. Statistical Methods in e-Commerce Research is the first book of its kind to focus on the statistical models and methods that are essential in order to analyze information from electronic-commerce (e-Commerce) transactions, identify the challenges that arise with new e-Commerce data structures, and discover new knowledge about consumer activity. This collection gathers over thirty researchers and practitioners from the fields of statistics, computer science, information systems, and marketing to discuss the growing use of statistical methods in e-Commerce research. From privacy protection to economic impact, the book first identifies the many obstacles that are encountered while collecting, cleaning, exploring, and analyzing e-Commerce data. Solutions to these problems are then suggested using established and newly developed statistical and data mining methods. Finally, a look into the future of this evolving area of study is provided through an in-depth discussion of the emerging methods for conducting e-Commerce research. Statistical Methods in e-Commerce Research successfully bridges the gap between statistics and e-Commerce, introducing a statistical approach to solving challenges that arise in the context of online transactions, while also introducing a wide range of e-Commerce applications and problems where novel statistical methodology is warranted. It is an ideal text for courses on e-Commerce at the upper-undergraduate and graduate levels and also serves as a valuable reference for researchers and analysts across a wide array of subject areas, including economics, marketing, and information systems who would like to gain a deeper understanding of the use of statistics in their work.

Book E commerce Statistics

Book excerpt: The value of e-commerce transactions, while still small relative to the size of the U.S. economy, continues to show strong growth despite a recent economic downturn. Congress will play a vital role in many e-commerce policy issues, including Internet taxation, encryption and electronic authentication (i.e., digital signatures), intellectual property protection (i.e., patent or copyright infringement), computer network security, and privacy safeguards for individuals and organizations, as well as consideration of how European Union (EU) and World Trade Organization (WTO) policies may affect U.S. e-commerce activities While e-commerce growth is widely discussed, until recently it had remained largely undefined and unrecognized in official economic statistics. Establishing relevant and consistent working definitions is a critical first step in developing useful measures for e-commerce. The Bureau of the Census initiated an aggressive program in 2000 to begin filling the e-commerce data gap. In addition, the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) is involved in measuring the new economy. BEA is studying the impact of the digital economy, to determine whether these changes should be captured in gross domestic product (GDP) and other economic accounts estimates. In February 2002, the Economics and Statistics Administration (ESA) of the U.S. Department of Commerce released Digital Economy 2002, its fourth annual report on the impact of information technology on the structure and performance of the U.S. economy. Among other findings, the report concluded that while early observers thought online versions of businesses would replace their real-world "bricks and mortar" counterparts, nothing approaching this degree of transformation has occurred. The Census Bureau, the BEA, and ESA face a number of obstacles to providing accurate forecasts of electronic commerce. These include categorizing retailers who appear, disappear, or change products with dizzying regularity. There are hurdles in collecting data from e-commerce companies and in projecting data from survey respondents so that it represents the entire universe of e-commerce spending. Private consulting firms and research and polling firms that provide estimates of the impact of the Internet on consumers and business, such as Nielsen and Gallup have also entered the field, along with new types of companies, such as Forrester Research, Gartner Group, Jupiter Communications, International Data Corporation (IDC), and Nielsen/Net Ratings. There is much debate over which Web measurement company's methods are more accurate. The research firms disagree among themselves about sampling methods and panel selection, and differing methods of identifying and soliciting the survey participants result in different data interpretations. This report addresses the complexities of measuring e-commerce growth and provides background information on government and private firms' methods for estimating it. This report will be updated periodically.

This book was released on 2022-01-01 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on how to improve the quality management of official statistics in China. Official statistics help to build an overview of China’s social and economic development and play an important role in policymaking for government as well as in decision-making for enterprises. Because of the great value in reference, the quality of official statistics also constitutes the concern from the public. This book summarizes three levels for understanding the concept of the quality of official statistics and analyzes possible affections from social and economic environment, political and management perspectives. Government statistical data is an important information reflecting China’s economic and social development, an important tool for Party committees at all levels, governments, enterprises and the public to understand and grasp China’s economic operation and social development, an important basis for Party committees and governments at all levels to conduct economic and social management and decision-making and an important reference for enterprises and the public to make decisions on production, operation, investment and consumption. Therefore, the government, enterprises and the public at all levels are demanding more and more government statistics. Accordingly, the quality of government statistical data is becoming more and more important, because it concerns the objectivity and accuracy of government statistical data, the scientificity of economic and social management, the decision-making of Party committees, the correctness of production, operation, investment and consumption decisions of enterprises and the public. Therefore, the quality of government statistical data is extremely important, which is not only the focus of social concern, but also the core issue of government statistics.

Book Innovations in Federal Statistics

Download or read book Innovations in Federal Statistics written by National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2017-04-21 with total page 151 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Federal government statistics provide critical information to the country and serve a key role in a democracy. For decades, sample surveys with instruments carefully designed for particular data needs have been one of the primary methods for collecting data for federal statistics. However, the costs of conducting such surveys have been increasing while response rates have been declining, and many surveys are not able to fulfill growing demands for more timely information and for more detailed information at state and local levels. Innovations in Federal Statistics examines the opportunities and risks of using government administrative and private sector data sources to foster a paradigm shift in federal statistical programs that would combine diverse data sources in a secure manner to enhance federal statistics. This first publication of a two-part series discusses the challenges faced by the federal statistical system and the foundational elements needed for a new paradigm.
