Book Dynamic Tooth Loads and Stressing for High Contact Ratio Spur Gears

Download or read book Dynamic Tooth Loads and Stressing for High Contact Ratio Spur Gears written by R. W. Cornell and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analysis and computer program has been developed for calculating the dynamic gear tooth loading and root stressing for HCRG as well as LCRG. The analysis includes the effects of the variable tooth stiffness during the mesh, tooth-profile modification, and gear errors. The calculation of the tooth root stressing caused by the dynamic gear loads is based on a modified Heywood gear tooth stress analysis, which appears more universally applicable to both LCRG and HCRG. The computer program is presently being expanded to calculate the tooth contact stressing and PV values.

Book Minimizing the Dynamic Load of High Contact Ratio Spur Gear Using Profile Modification

Download or read book Minimizing the Dynamic Load of High Contact Ratio Spur Gear Using Profile Modification written by Srijana Shah and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the major concern in the design of power transmission gear is the reduction of gear dynamic load. Research on gear noise and vibration has revealed that the basic mechanics of noise generated from gearing is gear box vibration excited by the dynamic load. This thesis studies the effect of tooth spacing errors on the dynamic load of high contact ratio spur gear subjected to unideal loading conditions. Spur gear is the simplest kind gear available. Spur gears have their teeth parallel to the axis of rotation and are used for transmitting power between two parallel shafts. Three types of spacing error distribution are defined and studied: type I (short span), type II (medium span), and type III (long span). Three different kinds of modification have been considered: linear, parabolic 1, parabolic II. The range of loading is changed from 0.75 times to 1.25 times of design load which is 2200 lb.-inch. A computer simulation has been conducted to investigate the effectiveness of profile modification for reducing dynamic loads in high-contact-ratio gears with different tooth spacing errors. The simulation examined varying amplitudes of spacing errors and differences in the span of teeth over which the errors occur. The dynamic analysis was performed using a revised version of a NASA gear dynamics code, modified to take into consideration the tooth spacing errors in the dynamic analysis. The findings of this study can be used to design robust tooth profile modification for improving the dynamic performance of high-contact-ratio gear sets with different tooth spacing errors when subjected to unideal loading condition.

Book Predicted Effect of Dynamic Load on Pitting Fatigue Life for Low contact ratio Spur Gears

Download or read book Predicted Effect of Dynamic Load on Pitting Fatigue Life for Low contact ratio Spur Gears written by David G. Lewicki and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How dynamic load affects the surface pitting fatigue life of external spur gears was predicted by using NASA computer program TELSGE. Parametric studies were performed over a range of various gear parameters modeling low-contact-ratio involute spur gears. In general, gear life predictions based on dynamic loads differed significantly from those based on static loads, with the predictions being strongly influenced by the maximum dynamic load during contact. Gear mesh operating speed strongly affected predicted dynamic load and life. Meshes operating at a resonant speed or one-half the resonant speed had significantly shorter lives. Dynamic life factors for gear surface pitting fatigue were developed on the basis of the parametric studies. In general, meshes with higher contact ratios had higher dynamic life factors than meshes with lower contact ratios. A design chart was developed for hand calculations of dynamic life factors. This book was released on 2018-07-20 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scoring tests, surface fatigue tests, and single-tooth bending fatigue tests were conducted with four sets of spur gears of standard design and three sets of spur gears of new-tooth-form design. The new-tooth-form and standard gears scored at approximately the same gear bulk temperature of 409 K (277 F). The scoring load for the new-tooth-form gears was 22 percent less than that for the standard gears. The pitting fatigue lives of the standard and new-tooth-form gears were statistically equal for equal Hertz stress, while the surface fatigue life of the nw-tooth-form gears was approximately five times that of the standard gears at the same load. The standard gears failed at a 17 percent higher bending stress than the new-tooth-form gears when stress was calculated by the AGMA method. However, the difference is not statistically significant. The standard gears failed at a tooth load 1.9 times that for the new-tooth-form gears. Towsend, D. P. and Baber, B. B. and Nagy, A. Glenn Research Center NASA-TP-1458, E-9949 RTOP 506-16

Book Effect of Contact Ratio on Spur Gear Dynamic Load

Download or read book Effect of Contact Ratio on Spur Gear Dynamic Load written by and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper presents a computer simulation showing how the gear contact ratio affects the dynamic load on a spur gear transmission. The contact ratio can be affected by the tooth addendum, the pressure angle, the tooth size (diametral pitch), and the center distance. The analysis presented in this paper was performed by using the NASA gear dynamics code DANST. In the analysis the contact ratio was varied over the range 1.20 to 2.40 by changing the length of the tooth addendum. In order to simplify the analysis, other parameters related to contact ratio were held constant. The contact ratio was found to have a significant influence on gear dynamics. Over a wide range of operating speeds a contact ratio close to 2.0 minimized dynamic load. For low-contact-ratio gears (contact ratio less than 2.0), increasing the contact ratio reduced the gear dynamic load. For high-contact-ratio gears (contact ratio equal to or greater than 2.0), the selection of contact ratio should take into consideration the intended operating speeds. In general, high-contact-ratio gears minimized dynamic load better than low-contact-ratio gears.

This book was released on 2018-07-02 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: DANST is a FORTRAN computer program for static and dynamic analysis of spur gear systems. The program can be used for parametric studies to predict the static transmission error, dynamic load, tooth bending stress and other properties of spur gears as they are influenced by operating speed, torque, stiffness, damping, inertia, and tooth profile. DANST performs geometric modeling and dynamic analysis for low- or high-contact-ratio spur gears. DANST can simulate gear systems with contact ratios ranging from one to three. It was designed to be easy to use and it is extensively documented in several previous reports and by comments in the source code. This report describes installing and using a new PC version of DANST, covers input data requirements and presents examples. Oswald, Fred B. and Lin, Hsiang Hsi and Delgado, Irebert R.
