Book Duration as a Measure of the Spiral Aftereffect

Download or read book Duration as a Measure of the Spiral Aftereffect written by Sheldon L. Freud and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this experiment was to study the reliability of duration as a measure of the spiral aftereffect. The results for 10 Ss indicate that duration is a highly reliable measure and that duration is a simple monotonic function of exposure-time. (Author).

Book The Spiral After Effect

Download or read book The Spiral After Effect written by Harry C. Holland and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-07-29 with total page 141 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Spiral After-Effect presents the visual phenomenon of the spiral after-effect in clinical investigations. This book explains how and under what conditions the illusion happens or can be modified. Organized into eight chapters, this book begins with an overview of the features of illusion that are similar to many of the characteristics of other movement perceptions, including vividness, velocity, and persistence. This text then examines the complex structure and the geometric function of the inducing stimulus. Other chapters consider the effects of drugs on the spiral illusion, which is rather strange when one considers the wide use of the phenomenon in patient groups who may be receiving substantial admixtures of compound for therapeutic purposes. This book discusses as well the relationship between intelligence and perception of the spiral after-effect. The final chapter deals with the conditioned after-effect. Clinical psychologists and readers who are interested in personality research will find this book useful.

Book The Motion Aftereffect

Download or read book The Motion Aftereffect written by George Mather and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 1998 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Motion perception lies at the heart of the scientific study of vision. The motion aftereffect (MAE) is the appearance of directional movement in a stationary object or scene after the viewer has been exposed to viusal motion in the opposite direction. For example, after one has looked at a waterfall for a period of time, the scene beside the waterfall may appear to move upward when one's gaze is transfered to it. Although the phenomenon seems simple, research has revealed copmlexities in the underlying mechanisms, and offered general lessons about how the brain processes visual information. In the 1990s alone, more than 200 papers have been published on MAE, largely inspired by improved techniques for examining brain electrophysiology and by emerging new theories of motion perception.

Book Experiments in Personality Volume 2 Psychology Revivals

Download or read book Experiments in Personality Volume 2 Psychology Revivals written by H. J. Eysenck and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-10-31 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1960, the two volumes of Experiments in Personality report a number of experiments in psychogenetics, psychopharmacology, psychodiagnostics, psychometrics and psychodynamics, all of which formed part of the programme of research which had been developing from the late 1940s at the Maudsley Hospital. Presenting the studies together in a book, rather than the more usual route of journal articles, was itself felt to be an experiment at the time, especially given the wide area covered. The decision was deliberate because all the studies reported formed part of a larger whole, which would have been lost if published separately. Volume II looks at psychodiagnostics, psychodynamics and psychometrics.

Book Effect of Combinations of Six Presentation Conditions on the Duration of the Spiral Aftereffect

Download or read book Effect of Combinations of Six Presentation Conditions on the Duration of the Spiral Aftereffect written by James L. Fozard and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using the stationary spiral itself as a test object 8 ft. from S, the duration of the spiral aftereffect was measured in three experiments which varied diameter, direction and speed of rotation of spiral, inspection time, number of turns and relative proportion of black and white. Duration of the aftereffect increased as number of turns of the spiral increased from 1.5 to 3.5, as inspection time increased from 15 - 120 sec. and as the relative width of light and dark bands decreased from 1:5 to 5:1. The aftereffect was longer with the expanding condition than with the contracting one. It decreased as spiral diameter changed from 4 or 8 to 16 in. corresponding to changes in visual angle ranging from 2 degrees to 9 degrees. Speeds of 25, 100 and 250 RPM did not produce significant differences although an interaction was found between speed and number of turns. (Author).
