La obra describe las propiedades físicas y químicas del concreto, haciendo énfasis en su permeabilidad. También presenta los diferentes agentes químicos que pueden atacarlo, como los sulfatos y los ácidos. Una parte importante del libro está dedicada a la reactividad del álcali en las partículas de agregado y a los procesos de carbonatación en el concreto. De igual manera, en su contenido se aborda el comportamiento de la piel del concreto normal y las particularidades en la durabilidad de los concretos de alto desempeño. Se cierra esta obra con la descripción del fenómeno de corrosión de las barras de acero de refuerzo.

However, when they are exposed to aggressive environments (e.g., chloride penetration) and cyclic loading, its performance can be significantly affected. Modeling deterioration produced by chloride penetration is useful to ensure optimal levels of serviceability and safety. The main purpose of this book is to propose a new model for lifetime assessment of RC structures subjected to deterioration produced by the combined action of corrosion and fatigue. The formulation of the model is based on a state of the art review on modeling of this kind of deterioration. Furthermore, taking into account the importance of the uncertainty related to the whole deterioration process, this book also presents a stochastic framework for this problem. Finally, several practical examples illustrate the effects of the corrosion-fatigue process in the reduction of life-cycle of RC structures.

A resistência à tração e a capacidade de deformação pós-fissuração tornam o concreto reforçado com fibra de aço um material atraente para a construção de paredes em casas baixas. O objetivo deste trabalho é apresentar critérios e recomendações para dimensionamento resistente a terremotos de paredes de concreto armado com fibras de aço (CRFA) em substituição à armadura de cisalhamento convencional (barras e malhas). Para tanto, os autores iniciam ampliando o conhecimento sobre a utilização do concreto com fibras de aço em elementos sujeitos a forças sísmicas; em seguida, eles estabelecem correlações para o projeto entre as propriedades mecânicas do concreto armado com fibras de aço; e finalizam com uma avaliação experimental do desempenho estrutural de paredes de CRFA por meio de ensaios dinâmicos em mesa vibratória de paredes de concreto submetida a acelerogramas naturais e sintéticos. Este trabalho destina-se a alunos e professores de Engenharia de Materiais, Engenharia Civil e Engenharia Industrial, centros e institutos de investigação relacionados com o betão armado e, em geral, profissionais e consultores do sector da construção. Inclui: Revisão da literatura sobre concreto armado com fibra de aço (CRFA). Desenvolvimento de um programa experimental de paredes CRFA para uso em edifícios baixos. Resultados dos testes de parede CRFA em mesa vibratória.
