Book Radiotelegraph Radiotelephone Codes Prowords and Abbreviations

Download or read book Radiotelegraph Radiotelephone Codes Prowords and Abbreviations written by John W Alcorn VK2JWA and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2013-10-26 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What started out as a minor Project in 1987, blew out like the national debt so with all this accumulated info, it seemed worthwhile to produce the first book, here now is the Latest Online Edition. The sources and references have been many and varied and although the utmost care was taken, the Lists are far from complete and may contain errors. The original Codes etc were designed principally for marine use as this was the field in which radio was initially developed. The majority retain this influence but many have been modified and modernized to cover land and air applications. Technical terms have also varied as technology has changed however most abbreviations of the computer age have been omitted. These are specialist terms of that mode, not often encountered in telegraphy.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Seleukid empire, the principal successor-state of the empire of Alexander the Great, endured for over 200 years and stretched, at its peak, from the Mediterranean to the borders of India. This book provides a wide-ranging study of the empire's economy and the methods used by the Seleukid kings to monetise and manage it so as to extract tribute, rent and taxes as efficiently as possible. It uses a variety of Greek literary sources and inscriptions, cuneiform texts, archaeological, numismatic and comparative evidence to explore in detail the manner of exploitation of their lands and subjects by the Seleukid kings, their city-building activity, the financing of their armies and administration, the use they made of coinage and their methods of financial management. The book adopts a highly original, numerical approach throughout, which leads to a quantified model of the economy of an ancient state.

Book The Latin Sexual Vocabulary

Download or read book The Latin Sexual Vocabulary written by J. N. Adams and published by JHU Press. This book was released on 1990-10 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: LIke other languages, Latin contained certain words its speakers considered obscene as well as a rich stock of sexual euphemism and metaphor. Our sources for this information range from surviving graffiti to literary works with a marked sexual content. Yet despite its manifest literary and linguistic interest, the sexual vocabulary of Latin has remained uninvestigated by scholars. J. A. Adams's pioneering and unique reference work collects for the first time evidence of Latin obscenities and sexual euphemisms drawn from both literary and nonliterary sources from the early Republic to about he fouth century A.D. Separate chaptes treat each of the sexual pasrts of the body and the terminology used to describe sexual acts. General topics include the influence of Greek language on Latin, changes in the Latin vocabulary over time (including the evolution of sexual words into general terms of abuse), and lexical differences among various literary genres.

Book Cancer Cell Structures Carcinogens and Genomic Instability

Download or read book Cancer Cell Structures Carcinogens and Genomic Instability written by Leon P. Bignold and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tumors can be induced by a variety of physical and chemical carcinogens. The resulting tumor cells are usually abnormal in their morphology and behavior and transmit their abnormalities to their daughter tumor cells. Most theories of the pathogenesis of tumors suggest that carcinogens in some way cause alterations either of the genomes or of inheritable patterns of gene expression in normal cells, which then cause morphological and behavioral changes. This volume presents a collection of articles aimed at the question by what genetic or epigenetic mechanisms carcinogens can cause morphological abnormalities of tumor cells. It includes reviews of cellular targets of known carcinogens, and presents varying viewpoints of how morphological abnormalities and the actions of carcinogens might be related. The volume will be of interest to all those who are involved in cancer research or in the prevention, diagnosis or management of tumors in humans or animals.
