Book Simulation Based Scheduling of a Dynamic and Stochastic Flexible Manufacturing System

Download or read book Simulation Based Scheduling of a Dynamic and Stochastic Flexible Manufacturing System written by Rohit Jain and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scheduling of a manufacturing system is a complicated task because of its dynamic and stochastic nature. Also, there are numerous possible combinations that can be considered which make scheduling time consuming. Developing a system that generates schedules based in dynamic and stochastic parameters and using simulations for performance evaluation can help overcome the aforementioned problems. In the following research, heuristics have been developed to solve batch size and sequencing problems for an assembly line using a simulation with an objective to increase throughput. A simulation model is developed in Arena to study the behavior of the assembly line and to evaluate the performance of the heuristics.

This book was released on 2004-05-31 with total page 818 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Handbook is a comprehensive research reference that is essential for anyone interested in conducting research in supply chain. Unique features include: -A focus on the intersection of quantitative supply chain analysis and E-Business, -Unlike other edited volumes in the supply chain area, this is a handbook rather than a collection of research papers. Each chapter was written by one or more leading researchers in the area. These authors were invited on the basis of their scholarly expertise and unique insights in a particular sub-area, -As much attention is given to looking back as to looking forward. Most chapters discuss at length future research needs and research directions from both theoretical and practical perspectives, -Most chapters describe in detail the quantitative models used for analysis and the theoretical underpinnings; many examples and case studies are provided to demonstrate how the models and the theoretical insights are relevant to real situations, -Coverage of most state-of-the-art business practices in supply chain management.

Book Robust Manufacturing Control

Download or read book Robust Manufacturing Control written by Katja Windt and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-14 with total page 553 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This contributed volume collects research papers, presented at the CIRP Sponsored Conference Robust Manufacturing Control: Innovative and Interdisciplinary Approaches for Global Networks (RoMaC 2012, Jacobs University, Bremen, Germany, June 18th-20th 2012). These research papers present the latest developments and new ideas focusing on robust manufacturing control for global networks. Today, Global Production Networks (i.e. the nexus of interconnected material and information flows through which products and services are manufactured, assembled and distributed) are confronted with and expected to adapt to: sudden and unpredictable large-scale changes of important parameters which are occurring more and more frequently, event propagation in networks with high degree of interconnectivity which leads to unforeseen fluctuations, and non-equilibrium states which increasingly characterize daily business. These multi-scale changes deeply influence logistic target achievement and call for robust planning and control strategies. Therefore, understanding the cause and effects of multi-scale changes in production networks is of major interest. New methodological approaches from different science disciplines are promising to contribute to a new level comprehension of network processes. Unconventional methods from biology, perturbation ecology or auditory display are gaining increasing importance as they are confronted with similar challenges. Advancements from the classical disciplines such as mathematics, physics and engineering are also becoming of continuing importance.

Book Production Management

Download or read book Production Management written by Yacob Khojasteh and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-11-07 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inventory control is an essential task in production management. An effective inventory control can significantly reduce the holding cost and hence, total production cost. Selecting and implementing a suitable production control system plays an important role in inventory reduction and performance improvement of a production system. Since the introduction of Toyota’s just-in-time philosophy, pull control systems have been adopted by numerous companies worldwide, both in the manufacturing and service sectors. This book provides some recent developments in production management and presents modeling and analysis tools for pull production control systems. It contributes by combining theoretical findings and case study analysis results with a practical and contemporary view on how to effectively manage and control production systems. Each chapter in this book focuses on a specific topic in production control systems, allowing readers to identify the chapters that relate to their interests. More specifically, the book is presented in three sections. The first section focuses on the design and implementation aspects of the pull production control systems, as well as performance evaluation approaches for pull systems. The second section presents a recent and comprehensive literature review. Three different case studies on implementation of pull production control systems are presented in the last section. This book can be used as an essential source for students and scholars who need to specifically study the pull control systems. Since the superiority of these systems is controversial, the book can also provide an interesting and informative read for practitioners, managers, and employees who need to deepen their knowledge on pull production management systems.

Book Optimal and Hierarchical Controls in Dynamic Stochastic Manufacturing Systems

Download or read book Optimal and Hierarchical Controls in Dynamic Stochastic Manufacturing Systems written by Suresh Sethi and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most manufacturing systems are large and complex and operate in an uncertain environment. One approach to managing such systems is that of hierarchical decomposition. This paper reviews the research devoted to proving that a hierarchy based on the frequencies of occurrence of different types of events in the systems results in decisions that are asymptotically optimal as the rates of some events become large compared to those of others. The paper also reviews the research on stochastic optimal control problems associated with manufacturing systems, their dynamic programming equations, existence of solutions of these equations, and verification theorems of optimality for the systems. Manufacturing systems that are addressed include single machine systems, dynamic fowshops, and dynamic jobshops producing multiple products. These systems may also incorporate random production capacity and demands, and decisions such as production rates, capacity expansion, and promotional campaigns are also presented.
