Download or read book Mediating Museums written by Virginie Rey and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2019-06-07 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book documents and interprets the trajectory of ethnographic museums in Tunisia from the colonial to the post-revolutionary period, demonstrating changes and continuities in role, setting and architecture across shifting ideological landscapes. The display of everyday culture in museums is generally looked down upon as being kitsch and old-fashioned. This research shows that, in Tunisia, ethnographic museums have been highly significant sites in the definition of social identities. They have worked as sites that diffuse social, economic and political tensions through a vast array of means, such as the exhibition itself, architecture, activities, tourism, and consumerism. The book excavates the evolution of paradigms in which Tunisian popular identity has been expressed through the ethnographic museum, from the modernist notion of 'indigenous authenticity' under colonial time, to efforts at developing a Tunisian ethnography after Independence, and more recent conceptions of cultural diversity since the revolution. Based on a combination of archival research in Tunisia and in France, participant observation and interviews with past and present protagonists in the Tunisian museum field, this research brings to light new material on an understudied area.
Download or read book French Idioms and Proverbs written by Vinchelés Payen-Payne V. Payen-Payne and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 1924 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this edition I have endeavoured to keep down additions as much as possible, so as not to overload the book; but I have not been sparing in adding cross-references (especially in the Index) and quotations from standard authors. These quotations seldom give the first occasion on which a proverb has been used, as in most cases it is impossible to find it. I have placed an asterisk before all recognised proverbs; these will serve as a first course for those students who do not wish to read through the whole book at once. In a few cases I have added explanations of English proverbs; during the eleven years I have been using the book I have frequently found that pupils were, for instance, as ignorant of "to bell the cat" as they were of "attacher le grelot."
Download or read book Ou Ja Pati written by Stevie Roquelaure and published by Librinova. This book was released on 2023-07-21T00:00:00Z with total page 195 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: SummaryIn the circle of initiates, the masters, guardians of a knowledge at the frontier of a here and an elsewhere, navigate between the fear and the fascination that they trigger in their surroundings. Fear, facing the incomprehension of their Universe, fascination, addressing their expressive power. In this paradox lies the access to the confidential World of the mastery. However, this is not about some eccentricity of the artist's madness, but a singular knowledge that emanates from the mastery of Art; expressed through simplicity, naturalness, authenticity. This book deals with this ability to evolve in the dimension of mastery, what it costs in efforts and sacrifices; an availability illustrated in very distinct practices, but yet so close, that of Ka, traditional Guadeloupean drum, and Kendo, traditional Japanese fencing.

Download or read book La Vie La Mort Dix Ans Plus Tard written by Jacques Prince and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2014-02 with total page 415 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
