This book was released on 2014-03-19 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Motor vehicle crashes are a leading cause of death and injury for all ages. Crashes on and off the job have far-reaching financial and psychological effects on employees, their coworkers and families, and their employers. You need a driver safety program: To save lives and to reduce the risk of life-altering injuries within your workforce; To protect your organization's human and financial Resources; To guard against potential company and personal liabilities associated with crashes involving employees driving on company business. Your program should work to keep the driver and those with whom he/she shares the road safe. And, if necessary, the program must work to change driver attitudes, improve behavior, and increase skills to build a “be safe” culture. By instructing your employees in basic safe driving practices and then rewarding safety-conscious behavior, you can help your employees and their families avoid tragedy. Employees are an employer's most valuable assets. Workplace driver safety programs not only make good business sense but also are a good employee relations tool, demonstrating that employers care about their employees. This booklet outlines ten steps for building a driver safety program in your workplace. These steps will be useful to any organization regardless of size of the organization, type of traffic encountered, number of vehicles involved, or whether employees drive company or personal vehicles for work purposes.

Book Long Distance Car Driving

Download or read book Long Distance Car Driving written by Veronica Wilkey and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Long distance car driving for work purposes is an area that has not specifically been targeted by employers or industry bodies. Extensive research has occurred in relation to various aspects of vehicle driving, however this has been mostly related to the heavy vehicle industry. What is available in the form of employer or industry based preventative initiatives generally covers no more than a few risks or hazards, such as fatigue management strategies. With statistics showing us that on average, 6 people pe week are killed as a result of work-related vehicle accidents, the importance of further work being completed in this area cannot be underestimated. A literature review was conducted in order to examine in detail the multitude of hazards and risks employees are exposed to while traveling long distances for work purposes . Information was obtained from a variety of journals and publications, internet web sites, legislative documents, WorkCover authorities and discussions with relevant industry bodies and organisations. Findings of this literature search identified four potential hazards as sources of injury, and twenty-one potential risk factors that increased the risks of injury, all associated with vehicle driving for work purposes. Various measures to control these hazards and risks have been identified which includes the use of a legislative framework for hazard management, in the form of the hierarchy of controls. One of the key findings being the contradiction between the philosophies of workplace safety legislation that aim to make the environment safe and road laws that focus on safe behaviors. ......................." -- Abstract.

The quality of writing is in general excellent, and this is a physically attractive book. Chapters are concise and to the point. The use of illustrative cases in many of the chapters is a definite plus. This an excellent book and a mainstay for introductory courses in the field."--The American Journal of Industrial Medicine "It achieves a good blend of practical application, together with the elements of the supporting sciences, such as toxicology and epidemiology, as well the social context. It is a useful text to inform and support day-to-day practice, to educate students, and to help with examinations. If I had not received a reviewer's copy, i would have bought the book out of my own pocket."--Occupational and Environmental Medicine "The book is geared primarily to medical personnel and professionals, but it contains many chapters that would be of use to nearly everyone.
