Book excerpt: Your dreams hold the key to a better, fuller life. There is a reason we dream at night. It's not random nonsense. When we are dreaming, we are thinking on a much deeper, more insightful level than when we're awake. When we're dreaming, we're actually problem solving...it's just in a different language. Our minds are speaking to us in codes: warning, helping, and guiding us through our constantly evolving situations in life. The mind, through dreams, is trying to alert us to problems it wants fixed. The truth is, our best thinking isn't done in the shower, it's done while we dream. In fact, when we say, "Let me sleep on it," what we're really saying is, "Let me dream on it." In this easy-to-use guide, renowned dream analyst Lauri Quinn Loewenberg gives you the tools to interpret the often confounding language of dreams. You will learn how to: * unlock the hidden dream communications your mind wants you to know * understand commonly occurring people, places and animals as extensions of your personality * decipher the real meaning behind nightmares like falling, drowning, and being chased * discover the big messages in seemingly small dream elements as Lauri guides you through dozens of real-life dreams * use your dreams as a tool to solve your everyday problems and effect real change in your life and relationships * reference the most important dream symbols with a comprehensive dream dictionary

Book When Brains Dream Understanding the Science and Mystery of Our Dreaming Minds

Download or read book When Brains Dream Understanding the Science and Mystery of Our Dreaming Minds written by Antonio Zadra and published by W. W. Norton & Company. This book was released on 2021-01-12 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "A truly comprehensive, scientifically rigorous and utterly fascinating account of when, how, and why we dream. Put simply, When Brains Dream is the essential guide to dreaming." —Matthew Walker, author of Why We Sleep Questions on the origins and meaning of dreams are as old as humankind, and as confounding and exciting today as when nineteenth-century scientists first attempted to unravel them. Why do we dream? Do dreams hold psychological meaning or are they merely the reflection of random brain activity? What purpose do dreams serve? When Brains Dream addresses these core questions about dreams while illuminating the most up-to-date science in the field. Written by two world-renowned sleep and dream researchers, it debunks common myths that we only dream in REM sleep, for example—while acknowledging the mysteries that persist around both the science and experience of dreaming. Antonio Zadra and Robert Stickgold bring together state-of-the-art neuroscientific ideas and findings to propose a new and innovative model of dream function called NEXTUP—Network Exploration to Understand Possibilities. By detailing this model’s workings, they help readers understand key features of several types of dreams, from prophetic dreams to nightmares and lucid dreams. When Brains Dream reveals recent discoveries about the sleeping brain and the many ways in which dreams are psychologically, and neurologically, meaningful experiences; explores a host of dream-related disorders; and explains how dreams can facilitate creativity and be a source of personal insight. Making an eloquent and engaging case for why the human brain needs to dream, When Brains Dream offers compelling answers to age-old questions about the mysteries of sleep.

Book Heads Up Dreaming

Download or read book Heads Up Dreaming written by Carlyle T. Smith and published by Turning Stone Press. This book was released on 2014-08-13 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A scientist shows us that we all have the biological capability to reduce uncertainty in our lives… Heads-Up Dreaming is a book about Dr. Smith’s personal discovery of the ability to have dreams that seem to portray future waking events. While other writers have noted this before, what makes Smith’s book unique is his thorough overview of the nature and characteristics of these kinds of dreams and how they differ from more ordinary ones. Through his research, he has discovered that people he knows (family, friends, and students) can also access “heads-up” dreams, suggesting this is a normal biological activity. Although it is an activity that appears to defy the rules of classical physics, it does not violate the rules of quantum physics. While some folks may be more accomplished at it than others – for example, he describes the dreams of one very talented individual who uses her dreams to guide her medical practice - it is an exercise available to all of us. Some of our most important decisions including choosing a life partner, buying homes or cars, changing jobs, are often made with partial information under considerable stress, using emotional rather than logical thinking. With Smith’s process as a guide, you have the ability to eliminate some of life’s uncertainty by interpreting your heads-up dreams – some or all of them will most likely have a thing or two to do with major decisions. In his experience, he’s found these unique dreams often arrive in a timely manner and are typically neutral or positive. With this in mind, anyone concerned with only receiving negative predictions, should rest assured. Heads-Up Dreaming can teach anyone the basic ability to recognize heads-up dreams and to use them as a guide for making some of life’s important decisions.

Book Dream Power

    Book Details:
  • Author : Cynthia Richmond
  • Publisher : Simon and Schuster
  • Release : 2002-01-10
  • ISBN : 0743226577
  • Pages : 240 pages

Download or read book Dream Power written by Cynthia Richmond and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2002-01-10 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ever since the first person woke up yawning and stretching from the first sleep, dreams have intrigued humankind. At some point all of us have been mystified or terrified or delighted by a vivid dream, and we all wonder -- what do our dreams mean? In her inspiring book, Dream Power, Los Angeles Times dream columnist Cynthia Richmond draws on her experience as a therapist and dream counselor to show us how to harness the power of our dreams and make our life goals come true. Understanding our dreams can give us a huge advantage in all facets of life, Richmond demonstrates -- in work, love, health, and spirituality. "By listening to what your subconscious mind and your spirit tell you through your dreams," she predicts, "you will have all the tools you need to achieve the life you want." But before we can interpret our dreams -- and change our lives -- we need to learn how to remember them, and so Dream Power begins with a simple tutorial in the art of recall. After providing us with practical, step-by-step techniques for gaining access to our dream lives, Richmond then charts the landscape of dream themes and their rich, perplexing meanings. Most of us have dreams that fall into certain important categories -- dreams of departed loved ones, schools and tests, flying, water, public nudity, and sex. Analyzing more than 200 real-life dreams (some from celebrities such as Jane Seymour and Kelsey Grammer), Richmond reveals the common themes, symbols, and meanings that run throughout them. Our dreams express universal hopes and fears, and these Richmond explores with warmth and insight. But she also takes traditional dream interpretation an important step further, showing us how to transform our insights into life-changing opportunities. To understand our dreams fully, she insists, we must look deep into our hearts and souls and ask: What do we want out of our lives? What are we afraid of and what do we love? Who are we? The answers to these questions will come to us in our sleep, if we recognize the wisdom and truth of the dream world. "Every one of us has a lesson to learn and a gift to offer to the world," Richmond declares. The wisdom of those lessons can help us make powerful changes in our spiritual, social, professional, and romantic lives. As Cynthia Richmond shows us with authority and inspiration, the path to a better life is only a dream away.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 10 Ideas That Changed My Life, I have made an attempt to understand the principles and concepts that helped me go from a student who was repeatedly kicked out of school to some of the best Ivy League graduate schools such as Harvard and Wharton. However, I didn't make this journey alone. I possibly couldn't have. There were dozens of individuals who had a positive impact on me in one way or another including but not limited to Les Brown, Stephen Covey, Dale Carnegie, Napoleon Hill, Jim Rohn, Zig Ziglar, Eric Thomas, and Greg Plitt. They were with me when others weren't. If anything, this book is a testament to these individuals. Using the advice I received from these individuals over the space of 7 years as well as my own research, I have tried my best to create a Personal Development Handbook which I sincerely hope will be of value to you regardless of where you are and what it is that you're trying to achieve. It is presented in a story format which I hope will make it an interesting read. Use this book as your own personal workbook - take as many notes as you want and keep coming back to them often. Life change is an ongoing process. I wish you all the best on your journey. If it is possible for me, it is possible for you.

Book The Spiritual Gift That Changed My Life

Download or read book The Spiritual Gift That Changed My Life written by Wananchese Dukes and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2019-05-06 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Spiritual Gift That Changed My Life was written to bring people closer to God's grace and love. It will show how God works in mysterious ways and the path he wants you to follow. My faith was tested so many times in life where I came so close to giving up. However, unbeknownst to me, God had other plans. Ever since I was a child, growing up in Detroit, I knew there was something unusual about me. I started having visions and dreams at the age of seven. These dreams were mostly about my deceased great–grandmother. She told me that I had a gift and it would mean so much to others when I got older. I tried to avoid going to sleep because these dreams scared me. It wasn't until I had my first near–death encounter that I realized everything she told me was true. In 2009, I was in a bad car accident and almost died. At this time, I began having visions while I was awake and asleep. The visions were of people I didn't know and places I've never been. I was experiencing déjà vu every day. I felt that this was God's way of trying to get my attention. However, I ignored these signs, and I was still determined to do things my way. In 2011, I was a victim of an attempted robbery and shot twice. I was rushed to the hospital. The doctors couldn't believe I was still alive and how the bullets never entered my body. In 2014, my ignorance and eating habits landed me back in the hospital. This time was different, and I took it more seriously. I was tired of running from my gift, and I knew that the Lord had great intentions for me. I had been given another chance, and it was time for me to start living for my purpose.
