Book Dreams for Peace

Download or read book Dreams for Peace written by Richard Hastings and published by . This book was released on 2004-12-01 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When Godzilla comes into your bedroom at night making you get up and run for your life even though your body is not moving, you may wonder how you are going to get to some level of peace and tranquility. Why has Godzilla come, you may ask, and how can a dream be so strong as to make you feel completely frightened even though you are in a safe room with very little chance of being harmed? Godzilla does not come by accident nor by chance. He is designed for you at that moment, and when we begin to understand that dreams are wonderful treasures especially designed for our development, Godzilla can become a door that leads to a great unfolding of new potentialities. Dreams are metaphors designed to lead us to become the best of who we were meant to be, and when we become those persons, the world benefits from our actions and attitudes and becomes a more peaceful place. In this book there are 19 dreams analyzed to show how the world of dreams can lead us to a more peaceful world. The world from which dreams come forth is a unified one where all things are connected. Whether the dream be positive or negative, it is perfect communication and we can be open to it.

Book Dreams of Peace and Freedom

Download or read book Dreams of Peace and Freedom written by Jay Winter and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2008-10-01 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the wake of the monstrous projects of Hitler, Stalin, Mao, and others in the twentieth century, the idea of utopia has been discredited. Yet, historian Jay Winter suggests, alongside the “major utopians” who murdered millions in their attempts to transform the world were disparate groups of people trying in their own separate ways to imagine a radically better world. This original book focuses on some of the twentieth-century’s “minor utopias” whose stories, overshadowed by the horrors of the Holocaust and the Gulag, suggest that the future need not be as catastrophic as the past. The book is organized around six key moments when utopian ideas and projects flourished in Europe: 1900 (the Paris World's Fair), 1919 (the Paris Peace Conference), 1937 (the Paris exhibition celebrating science and light), 1948 (the Universal Declaration of Human Rights), 1968 (moral indictments and student revolt), and 1992 (the emergence of visions of global citizenship). Winter considers the dreamers and the nature of their dreams as well as their connections to one another and to the history of utopian thought. By restoring minor utopias to their rightful place in the recent past, Winter fills an important gap in the history of social thought and action in the twentieth century.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As Middle-East Bureau Chief of the French Public television network and a resident of Jerusalem since 1968, Charles Enderlin has had unequaled access to leaders and negotiators on all sides. Here he takes the reader step-by-step along the path that began with the hope of agreement but led only to the ultimate collapse of the peace process. The dramatic account moves between the occupied territories and the negotiation tables as it follows the emotional shifts in the conflict from the 1995 assassination of Yitzhak Rabin to the years when Benjamin Netenyahu was in power. In a definitive account of the meetings at Camp David in July 2000, Enderlin details what was said between Israeli and Palestinian negotiators brought together by Bill Clinton in the presence of Yasir Arafat, President of the Palestinian Authority, and Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak.

Book Dreams of Peace

Download or read book Dreams of Peace written by Jogi Dhillon and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2014-09-04 with total page 107 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is but natural for all humans to have dreams. However, some build castles in the air, and some harness their dreams to jostle others mind-sets with a view to catapult the cause of common good to new heights. The latter is what Jogi Dhillon does in his new book. While traversing through Asia, Europe, and America, Jogi Dhillon has had firsthand experience of envious, vengeful, greedy, hateful, and selfish conduct at all levelsbe it social, cultural, ethical, religious, or political. This has affected his perceptive mind, and he feels that the present generation seems to be oblivious of the truth that world peace is being threatened by its less than considered decisions. He is warning us that the world is going a wrong way and course correction is imperative. He reinforces his arguments to coax us to redefine our notions even at the cost of repetition. Being a simple man, Jogi Dhillon suggests ridiculously simple solutions for various problems. If his effort stirs someones soul, his aim would be more than achieved. Reviewed by Chris Anthony Ferrer

Book Transpacific Field of Dreams

Download or read book Transpacific Field of Dreams written by Sayuri Guthrie-Shimizu and published by Univ of North Carolina Press. This book was released on 2012-04-04 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Baseball has joined America and Japan, even in times of strife, for over 150 years. After the "opening" of Japan by Commodore Perry, Sayuri Guthrie-Shimizu explains, baseball was introduced there by American employees of the Japanese government tasked with bringing Western knowledge and technology to the country, and Japanese students in the United States soon became avid players. In the early twentieth century, visiting Japanese warships fielded teams that played against American teams, and a Negro League team arranged tours to Japan. By the 1930s, professional baseball was organized in Japan where it continued to be played during and after World War II; it was even played in Japanese American internment camps in the United States during the war. From early on, Guthrie-Shimizu argues, baseball carried American values to Japan, and by the mid-twentieth century, the sport had become emblematic of Japan's modernization and of America's growing influence in the Pacific world. Guthrie-Shimizu contends that baseball provides unique insight into U.S.-Japanese relations during times of war and peace and, in fact, is central to understanding postwar reconciliation. In telling this often surprising history, Transpacific Field of Dreams shines a light on globalization's unlikely, and at times accidental, participants.

Book Dreams from My Father

Download or read book Dreams from My Father written by Barack Obama and published by Crown. This book was released on 2007-01-09 with total page 463 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • ONE OF ESSENCE’S 50 MOST IMPACTFUL BLACK BOOKS OF THE PAST 50 YEARS In this iconic memoir of his early days, Barack Obama “guides us straight to the intersection of the most serious questions of identity, class, and race” (The Washington Post Book World). “Quite extraordinary.”—Toni Morrison In this lyrical, unsentimental, and compelling memoir, the son of a black African father and a white American mother searches for a workable meaning to his life as a black American. It begins in New York, where Barack Obama learns that his father—a figure he knows more as a myth than as a man—has been killed in a car accident. This sudden death inspires an emotional odyssey—first to a small town in Kansas, from which he retraces the migration of his mother’s family to Hawaii, and then to Kenya, where he meets the African side of his family, confronts the bitter truth of his father’s life, and at last reconciles his divided inheritance. Praise for Dreams from My Father “Beautifully crafted . . . moving and candid . . . This book belongs on the shelf beside works like James McBride’s The Color of Water and Gregory Howard Williams’s Life on the Color Line as a tale of living astride America’s racial categories.”—Scott Turow “Provocative . . . Persuasively describes the phenomenon of belonging to two different worlds, and thus belonging to neither.”—The New York Times Book Review “Obama’s writing is incisive yet forgiving. This is a book worth savoring.”—Alex Kotlowitz, author of There Are No Children Here “One of the most powerful books of self-discovery I’ve ever read, all the more so for its illuminating insights into the problems not only of race, class, and color, but of culture and ethnicity. It is also beautifully written, skillfully layered, and paced like a good novel.”—Charlayne Hunter-Gault, author of In My Place “Dreams from My Father is an exquisite, sensitive study of this wonderful young author’s journey into adulthood, his search for community and his place in it, his quest for an understanding of his roots, and his discovery of the poetry of human life. Perceptive and wise, this book will tell you something about yourself whether you are black or white.”—Marian Wright Edelman

Book What Keeps You Up at Night

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “I just can’t ever seem to shut off my brain and rest.” It's easy to feel paralyzed by uncertainty. We want our questions answered, our decisions affirmed, and our plans applauded. But life doesn't come with an instruction manual and rarely follows a straight path. How would your life change if you learned to lean into uncertainty instead of waiting on the sidelines for just the right moment or opportunity? The paradox of faith is that you can't activate it until you act on it. Trust compels us to move forward. If you don't, then you'll be left with a laundry list of unrealized expectations. You were meant to experience a life of abundance and blessing, not frustration and failure. Clarity only comes when we look back. So if you wait until you have clarity, you'll never find it. Instead, you must move forward even when you feel scared to death. That is when you'll be able to turn the fears that keep you up at night into fuel for your journey. If you want to experience a breakthrough in your life, then you must find a new cadence that will provide the strength you need to move forward in spite of your doubts, questions, and fears. The rhythm of faith is not hinged upon our circumstances but our willingness to surrender. In his most insightful work since the debut bestseller, Plan B, Pete Wilson provides a plan for living that will lead you to a place of peace that you've only dreamed about and a life filled with meaning, significance, and satisfaction.
