Book Unusually Special Relativity

Download or read book Unusually Special Relativity written by Andrzej Dragan and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2021-11-24 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Iconoclastic physics professor and artist Andrzej Dragan presents a unique feast of knowledge on special relativity in a straightforward, progressive manner that even a savvy high school student could follow. Encompassing the derivation of Lorentz transformations to Wigner rotations and Thomas precession; from non-inertial accelerated reference frames to event horizons, curved spacetime, and static black holes; and from the Doppler effect to relativistic structure of electromagnetism, Dragan peels back the enigmatic layers of modern physics to enable a deeper understanding of Einstein's groundbreaking theory.Comprehensive and elegantly written, full of insightful apparent paradoxes and riddles, but without any complicated math, Dragan's unique overview takes the reader well beyond the orthodox verses of standard Special Relativity to the bleeding edge of 'new-fangled' superluminal apocrypha and their relation to Quantum Theory. The book is based on a course on Special Relativity and acclaimed by students taught by Dragan who is a leader of a research group on Relativistic Quantum Information theory at the University of Warsaw and the National University of Singapore.Scan the QR code to access the author's collection of Youtube videos that explain the fundamental concepts of physics described in Unusually Special Relativity.

Book excerpt: Commercial theatre is thriving across Europe, while public theatre has suffered under changing patterns of cultural consumption - as well as sharp reductions in government subsidies for the arts. At a time when the rationale behind these subsidies is being widely reexamined, it has never been more important for public theatre to demonstrate its continued merit. In Resetting the Stage, Dragan Klaic argues convincingly that, in an increasingly crowded market of cultural goods, public theatre is best served not by imitating its much larger commercial counterpart, but by asserting its artistic dis.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "On the Road Again", is autobiographical novel, based on an actual road trip conducted in 1989, where two lifelong friends, (Yuri and the author) traveled from Europe to India, via bus, across war-torn Iran and Afghanistan. The book contains 30 episodes (chapters), which could be read independently as vignettes, but combined they present a novel. These chapters do not follow chronological order; the last story is actually the first. The protagonists encounter some hard-to-believe situations in the world most dangerous places. They traveled with Mujahideens, from Zahedan to Quetta, latter being the epicenter of today's Taliban. They roamed through Iran during the Iraq-Iran war, and under watchful eye of Iranian Republican Guard. However, the novel is not only about the risky places and dangerous adventures. Much of it is focused on the final destination, Indian province of Goa. A Hippy paradise that once was. A place that does not exists any more, a place now reduced to hotel chains and mass tourism. But a place-in-time, that is well preserved by this novel. This novel is also about love and friendship and about one, long gone, green eye geisha.

Book The Book of Revenge

Download or read book The Book of Revenge written by Dragan Todorovic and published by Vintage Canada. This book was released on 2007-03-13 with total page 391 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A darkly comic recollection of a country that no longer exists, and a lyrical examination of the importance of taking a stand when it counts. Set against a backdrop of horrific world events, this is narrative non-fiction at its best. To a young boy growing up poor but happy in an industrial town in Serbia, politics means many national holidays that result in parades, piglets roasting on a spit, and getting to see both his hard-working parents at the same time. An observant child, Dragan Todorovic quickly learns the power of words. Even before he can read or write, he is mesmerized by the squiggles made by the grownups around him and diligently recreates them in the notebooks he carries with him always. He also learns that reciting naughty limericks usually yields some chocolate. This love of words eventually takes Dragan to Belgrade, as editor for a cultural magazine. He hopes to inspire and support the young and innovative artists of the time, but soon discovers that naughty articles do not yield the same results as limericks, and he finds himself constantly clashing with the system. His many questions get only one answer: he is drafted into the army. Dragan survives his tour of duty, but his return to Belgrade is unsettling. Everything is changing, rapidly. Friendships are collapsing, conversations are guarded, nothing is as it seems. Bit by bit, the country he knows and loves is being torn apart. Filled with great characters and poignant and often hilarious stories, The Book of Revenge is a superb duet of a citizen and his country, a universal exploration of just what it is that inoculates the human spirit from dangerous ideologies and toxic nationalism.

Download or read book The Cellist of Sarajevo written by Steven Galloway and published by Vintage Canada. This book was released on 2009-02-24 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This brilliant novel with universal resonance tells the story of three people trying to survive in a city rife with the extreme fear of desperate times, and of the sorrowing cellist who plays undaunted in their midst. One day a shell lands in a bread line and kills twenty-two people as the cellist watches from a window in his flat. He vows to sit in the hollow where the mortar fell and play Albinoni’s Adagio once a day for each of the twenty-two victims. The Adagio had been re-created from a fragment after the only extant score was firebombed in the Dresden Music Library, but the fact that it had been rebuilt by a different composer into something new and worthwhile gives the cellist hope. Meanwhile, Kenan steels himself for his weekly walk through the dangerous streets to collect water for his family on the other side of town, and Dragan, a man Kenan doesn’t know, tries to make his way towards the source of the free meal he knows is waiting. Both men are almost paralyzed with fear, uncertain when the next shot will land on the bridges or streets they must cross, unwilling to talk to their old friends of what life was once like before divisions were unleashed on their city. Then there is “Arrow,” the pseudonymous name of a gifted female sniper, who is asked to protect the cellist from a hidden shooter who is out to kill him as he plays his memorial to the victims. In this beautiful and unforgettable novel, Steven Galloway has taken an extraordinary, imaginative leap to create a story that speaks powerfully to the dignity and generosity of the human spirit under extraordinary duress.
