This book was released on 2017-11-19 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Dose-Book and Manual of Prescription-Writing With a List of the Official Drugs and Preparations, and Many of the Newer Remedies With Their Doses While it is the Object of the committee to recognize all the best and most generally used remedial agent's, they must Of necessity omit many valuable drugs and prepara. Tions for the following among other reasons: (i) From the fact that they have not been sufficiently or long enough used to justify their positive approval (2) that they are not in general use in all parts Of the country; (3) that they are proprietary articles. The knowledge that a drug or prepara. Tion is not official does not argue against its use, for there are many valuable therapeutic agents not accorded the dig nity of a position in the Pharmacopoeia. The value of such a book will at once be recognized, as it gives uniformity to all official preparations. Such a work should receive the support and encouragement Of every true devotee of medi Cine and pharmacy, for without a standard for making each preparation our pharmacy would be in a state Of great con fusion. Download or read book A Text Book on Prescription Writing and Pharmacy written by Bernard Fantus and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-13 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A d104 Book on Prescription Writing and Pharmacy: With Practice in Prescription-Writing, Laboratory Exercises in Pharmacy, and a Reference List of the Official Drugs, Especially Designed for Medical Students The problems in prescription-writing introduced so abun dautly in this book are intended to serve as exercises of the first grade. They are expected to teach the student the best form in which medicines may be prescribed. After the student has mastered this course, he should be introduced to problems of the second grade, in which he should be required to pre scribe a certain drug or combination of drugs; leaving the choice of form, dose, and method of administration to the exercise of the student's knowledge and judgment. Finally, the student should be drilled in problems of a third grade, in which he is asked to prescribe for a certain condition of dis ease, for which he is to choose the proper medicament, which is then to be prescribed in the proper way. Thus, he advances by successive stages up to the point when he will be able to grapple successfully with the problems at the patient 's bedside, when the element of diagnosis is added as a final complication. Is it a wonder that young practitioners who have not had the training just outlined find themselves hopelessly lost when they are faced by the necessity of writing a prescription at the bedside. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Manual of Prescription Writing: With a Full Explanation of the Methods of Correctly Writing Prescriptions, a Table of Doses Expressed in Both the Apothecaries' and Metric Systems; Rules for Avoiding Incompatibilities and for Combining Medicines The arrangement of the drugs in the posological tables will commend itself to most, while the giving of the dose in metric terms will certainly greatly enhance its value. Perhaps the greatest difficulty met with was the determination of the proper doses. To this great care has been given but at best the result must be very unsatisfactory, for reasons given elsewhere.
