Download or read book Bone SPECT CT of Ankle and Foot written by Guillaume Chuto and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-12-05 with total page 155 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Divided into two parts, this book discusses various aspects of bone SPECT/CT of ankle and foot. The first part is dedicated to foot and ankle pathology and concisely presents those disorders most frequently detected with a bone scan. The authors also describe common pathologies that cannot be diagnosed with bone scans, such as Morton’s neuroma, but which nuclear physicians need to recognize. Orthopedic surgeons’ expectancies are highlighted and several bone scan studies of clinical interest are presented. The second part is devoted to anatomy: bones, articulations and all relevant anatomical structures that are necessary to interpret a bone scan of the ankle and foot are described by means of anatomical illustrations with captions. At the end of the last decade, hybrid scanners with the ability to acquire single-photon emission computed tomoscintigraphy (SPECT) and multislice CT data simultaneously were introduced, thus opening a wide range of perspectives for nuclear physicians. Like their radiologist colleagues in the early 1990s, nuclear physicians have discovered pathologies that they were unaware of and have visualized increased tracer uptakes that they were previously unable to detect. This book, written by nuclear physicians and orthopedic surgeons specialized in the foot and ankle, will increase understanding of this whole new semiology. The internationally recognized Terminologia Anatomica has been used for the nomenclature of anatomical structures.

Download or read book Concise Dictionary of Pharmacological Agents written by I.K. Morton and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 347 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this dictionary is to provide a convenient and affordable personal desk reference resource. The authors, who have many years experience in pharmacological research, teaching and editing, recognized a need for a single up-to-date volume encompassing material that hitherto could be gathered only from a well-stocked library. This book comprises two main sections: an A-Z listing of drugs and their properties; and a descriptive glossary of technical terms. The level and scope of this reference material will make it essential for pharmacologists and medicinal chemists, from the graduate student to established worker. It should also be valuable to workers in allied biomedical diSCiplines, such as biochemistry and physiology, medical students and science writers and editors. Scope The dictionary is centred on pharmacologically active agents. Workers in drug-related diSCiplines need to correctly identify individual agents from an arsenal of pharmacologically active compounds, each with a number of alternative drug names according to the country or naming convention.
Download or read book E Lexicography written by Pedro A. Fuertes-Olivera and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 2011-10-20 with total page 357 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book looks at current research and future directions in e-lexicography. Online dictionaries and reference tools are increasingly prevalent in a digitized and internet-led era in language study that has embraced computational linguistics. This book responds with theoretical and practical analysis of key topics, from a global range of contributors. Since COBUILD in the 1980s, lexicographers have found it essential to engage with and utilize electronic computational tools. Internet dictionaries, online reference tools and even search engine optimization demand a knowledge of electronic lexicography and force a reassessment of the field. This volume looks at, amongst other topics: • Polyfunctional versus monofunctional dictionary tools • Developing theories of lexicography for electronic mediums • Distinguishing between the database and the dictionary • Online dictionaries not as data repositories but as sophisticated search engines This volume will appeal to scholars in lexicography and to practicing lexicographers.

Download or read book Twentieth Century Borrowings from French to English written by Julia Landmann and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2013-01-16 with total page 590 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: French has long been the donor language par excellence in the history of English. French has contributed to the English vocabulary in the form of new words since before the Norman Conquest. The French influence on the English lexicon represents the focus of linguistic concern in a considerable number of investigations of the language and its development. Yet French borrowings which have recently been adopted into English have as yet figured little if at all in such studies. The present study sets out to shed light on the French impact on English in the recent past. The results presented in this book are based on a corpus of 1677 twentieth-century French borrowings collected from the Oxford English Dictionary Online. On the basis of their meanings, the words under consideration have been assigned to different subject fields in order to give a tour d’horizon of the manifold areas and spheres of life enriched by French in recent times. The first part of the present investigation concentrates on the phonological and orthographical reception of the various borrowings. The focus of this study is on the semantic development of the French borrowings in comparison to their sources in the donor language. Emphasis has been placed upon analysing whether a particular meaning a borrowing assumes after its first attested use is taken over from French, or whether it represents an independent semantic change within English.
Download or read book Defining Metonymy in Cognitive Linguistics written by Antonio Barcelona and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 2011 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While cognitive linguists are essentially in agreement on both the conceptual nature and the fundamental importance of metonymy, there remain disagreements on a number of specific but, nevertheless, crucial issues. Research questions include: Is metonymy a relationship between entities or domains ? Is it necessarily referential? What is meant by the claim that metonymy is a stand-for relationship? Can metonymy be considered a mapping? How can it be distinguished from active zones or facets ? Is it a prototype category? The ten contributions of the present volume address such core issues on the basis of the latest research results. The volume is unique in being devoted exclusively to the delimitation of the notion of metonymy without ignoring points of divergence among the various contributors, thus paving the way towards a consensual conception of metonymy."
