Download or read book Don t Panic written by Neil Gaiman and published by Open Road Media. This book was released on 2018-10-30 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The #1 New York Times–bestselling author’s “hilarious . . . idiosyncratic . . . delightful” and definitive companion to a global phenomenon (Publishers Weekly). Douglas Adams’s “six-part trilogy,” The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy grew from a blip of a notion into an ever-expanding multimedia universe that amassed an unprecedented cult of followers and became an international sensation. As a young journalist, Neil Gaiman was given complete access to Adams’s life, times, gossip, unpublished outtakes, and files (and became privy to his writing process, insecurities, disillusionments, challenges, and triumphs). The resulting volume illuminates the unique, funny, dramatic, and improbable chronicle of an idea, an incredibly tall man, and a mind-boggling success story. In Don’t Panic, Gaiman celebrates everything Hitchhiker: the original radio play, the books, comics, video and computer games, films, television series, record albums, stage musicals, one-man shows, the Great One himself, and towels. And as Douglas Adams himself attested: “It’s all absolutely devastatingly true—except the bits that are lies.” Updated several times in the thirty years since its original publication, Don’t Panic is available for the first time in digital form. Part biography, part tell-all parody, part pop-culture history, part guide to a guide, Don’t Panic “deserves as much cult success as the Hitchhiker’s books themselves” (Time Out).
Download or read book Essentials of Economics written by Glenn Hubbard and published by Pearson Higher Education AU. This book was released on 2012-10-17 with total page 677 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Real examples. Real companies. Real business decisions. Covering the core economics principles and providing engaging, relevant examples within just nineteen Chapters, Hubbard Essentials of Economics is the perfect teaching and learning resource for a one semester unit. The authors present economics as a dynamic, relevant discipline for Australasian students. The key questions students of first year economics ask themselves are: `Why am I here?” and “Will I ever use this?’ Hubbard Essentials of Economics answers these questions by demonstrating that real businesses use economics to make real decisions every day. Each chapter of the text opens with a case study featuring a real business or real business situation, refers to the study throughout the Chapter, and concludes with An Inside Look—a news article format which illustrates how a key principle covered in the Chapter relates to real business situations or was used by a real company to make a real business decision.
Download or read book Quarterly Essay 45 Us and Them written by Anna Krien and published by Black Inc.. This book was released on 2012-04-01 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the first time in history, humans sit unchallenged at the top of the food chain. As we encroach on the wild and a vast wave of extinctions gathers force, how has our relationship with animals changed? In this dazzling essay, Anna Krien investigates the world we have made and the complexity of the choices we face. From pets to the live cattle trade, from apex predators to scientific experiments, Krien shows how we should – and do – treat our fellow creatures. As she delves deeper, she finds that animals can trigger primal emotions in us, which we are often unwilling to acknowledge. This is a clear-eyed meditation on humanity and animality, us and them, that brings out the importance of animals in an unforgettable way. “I am not weighing up whether our treatment of animals is just, because it isn’t. That age-old debate is a farce – deep down we all know it. The real question is, just how much of this injustice are we prepared to live with?” —Anna Krien, Us and Them

Download or read book Spanish recipes for everyday cooking written by Alfonso López Alonso and published by Recetas de rechupete. This book was released on with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: More than 100 easy recipes based on Spanish and Mediterranean cuisine for a healthy and diverse diet. This book brings together the best dishes from recetasderechupete.com, one of the most popular recipe blogs in Spanish. This title features: 107 easy recipes with step-by-step instructions; colour photos of every recipe; and lively personal anecdotes. FOREWORD I could tell you that this is a wonderful book. I could also tell you that this book is full of marvelous recipes, illustrated with mouthwatering pictures which would make you dream of savoring these dishes one day. I could comment on how well explained all the tricks and techniques needed to cook these recipes are. I could do all this and I would not be lying. But instead I rather talk about the author. A guy I liked from the minute I met him. He is full of good vibes, and has always helped me and other gastro bloggers in every way he could. Alfonso is one of those odd people who likes everyone, who does not fit the stereotype of a cautious Galician since he is bold and direct, and on top of everything he is no dummy. I also deeply admire him for creating one of the best blogs in Spain Recetas de Rechupete. You might be thinking that you couldn’t care less about all this, and that the personal qualities of the author are not necessary when judging the recipes in a cookbook. This could be true about a conventional cookbook, but never about a blogger’s cookbook. The main value in any blog is that it is personal; no one else could have written it. And when it comes to culinary blogs, it is important that they reflect the origins, experiences, tastes, and the obsessions of the person that is driving it. Both Recetas de Rechupete and the book are 100% Alfonso, they ooze earnestness and frankness, simplicity, closeness, but above all, the good food enthusiasm put into it by the author. I would love to have my own Alfonso preparing all these meals for me, enjoying his conversation. But since this is impossible, at least until the electronic author is invented, I will just have to resign myself to having the book in my computer and reverting to it every time I am in the mood for an everyday meal.
