Download or read book Eat Your Feelings written by Lindsey Smith and published by Macmillan + ORM. This book was released on 2017-12-26 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: **WINNER: Silver Award in the Cookbooks: Natural, Nutrition, Organic, Vegetarian category of the 2018 Living Now Book Award** **One of the Atlanta Journal-Consitution's self-help books to help you live your best life in 2018** Cosmopolitan: "Take a bite of [Smith's] tasty advice." Brit + Co: "Offers intriguing insight into why we reach for certain (junk) foods when we’re sad, stressed, tired, hangry, and bored, and which nutrient-rich foods we should aim to eat instead." Lindsey Smith, The Food Mood Girl, shows how you can transform your lifestyle by learning from your cravings and using mood-boosting ingredients every day Blending together Lindsey Smith’s passion for health and wellness, food and humor, Eat Your Feelings is a humorous, lighthearted take on your typical diet book. Busy young professionals wrestle with long hours, an exhausting dating culture, and the stress of the modern world. As days whiz by, it’s normal to gravitate toward food—a quick slice of pizza, a chocolate bar, or a bag of chips—that fulfills a craving of the moment or gives a quick energy boost. And this impulse makes sense. Food gives us a sense of pleasure and joy. It can provide us with satisfaction and comfort. Food can awaken each of our senses to something new each time we eat. It gives us energy, and quite literally sustains life as we know it. It should be emotional. If you are feeling sad, stressed, exhausted, hangry, or bored, it’s comforting to eat dishes you love and crave. But Lindsey Smith shows how simple it is to make those same meals and snacks with mood-boosting ingredients that will physically nourish instead of processed foods. In Eat Your Feelings, Lindsey Smith, the Food Mood Girl, will look at ways to eat healthy food based on what people tend to crave the most during heightened emotional states, introducing recipes with crunchy, cheesy, creamy, sweet, and salty themes and drink alternatives for those who tend to chug soda or coffee when all worked up. It’s crucial to listen to your cravings: they are the gatekeepers that unlock the secrets to our unique bodies. But a major element of the Food Mood lifestyle is love, and revolutionizing the way you treat your body and your cravings will not only rid yourself of hanger pains but will also teach you how to listen and respond to your body with healthy ingredients and recipes.

Download or read book Bitter Water Blues written by Patrick Shawn Bagley and published by Down & Out Books. This book was released on 2018-03-19 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Joe Collins used to be Joey Connolly, alias Joey Kotex, an infamous enforcer for the Petucci crime family. He left that world behind to run a blues club in Chicago, but Carl Petucci finds Joe and forces him to do one last job. Joe’s assignment takes him to Wesserunsett, a small Maine town that has seen better days. With a friend’s life at stake, Joe must kill a porn director and recover a video starring Petucci’s niece. Easier said than done, as the target’s girlfriend, Wanda, is a Wesserunsett cop. Then there’s Hag, a wannabe hitman, and his buddy Earl. Hag’s looking to make a killing in the killing business. As Joey, Wanda, and Hag each pursue their own agenda, they move ever closer to a bloody showdown. Praise for BITTER WATER BLUES: “A glorious boilermaker of noir and East Coast gothic. The action is as taut as a sprung snare and Bagley tightens the screws with every page.” —Laird Barron, author of Swift to Chase “There ain’t much quaint and cuddly about Patrick Shawn Bagley’s Maine, where the only folks more dangerous than the thugs and gangsters From Away are the locals. Bagley sandblasts the chipped veneer of small-town charm to expose the rot beneath. Bitter Water Blues is a vivid, unflinching portrait of desperate people struggling at the margins of society to survive.” —Chris F. Holm, author of The Collector trilogy and The Killing Kind “Bagley’s debut novel is pitch perfect crime fiction, as dark and raw as it gets with a rich tapestry of intersecting characters who bring a beleaguered blue collar New England community to life with the style and powerful punch of a seasoned veteran…a story of redemption and revenge, second chances gone awry, double-crosses and finding loyalty where it counts, even if a little too late…a refreshingly masterful new voice in noir, and highly recommended.” —Ed Kurtz, author of Nothing You Can Do
Download or read book Exacting Justice written by TG Wolff and published by Down & Out Books. This book was released on 2018-04-23 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An unknown killer is waging a war on drugs. The murders are horrendous but with a silver lining—now stop signs are the only objects lingering on corners in the city’s toughest neighborhoods. Half the city calls for the police to end the killer’s reign. The other half cheers the killer on, denouncing the tactics but celebrating the progress police haven’t been able to achieve. The gritty details of Cleveland’s drug underworld are nothing new to Homicide Detective Jesus De La Cruz. Two years earlier, Cruz worked undercover narcotics and was poised for a promotion that would have placed him in a coveted position within the drug organization. The deal went bad. Now he has a new face, a new job, and a new case. The killer moves through the streets with impunity, identity still unknown. Demands for progress from his superiors, accumulated grief of the victim’s relatives, growing pressure from the public, and elevated stress from his family quietly pull Cruz apart. With no out, the detective moves all in, putting his own head on the line to bait a killer. Praise for EXACTING JUSTICE: “TG Wolff’s Detective De La Cruz is caught in the crosshairs of solving heinous crimes, defending himself against a wrongful lawsuit, helping an abusive drug dealer’s family, thwarting his mother’s matchmaking, and falling in love. Pit against those who subvert justice and twist the law to suit their own ends, Cruz stands true while suffering his own demons—everything a hero should be. Wolff’s unsentimental and precise writing draws readers. Add Exacting Justice to your ‘to be read’ pile.” —E. B. Davis, mystery author “Working with an incarcerated population, I deal regularly with people who have made poor life decisions but who can be inherently funny, surprisingly talented, or overly concerned. I know that simple labels of ‘good’ and ‘bad’ don't work in the real world. In Exacting Justice, TG Wolff created characters just as messy, complicated, and dynamic as real life that keep you wanting to read page after page.” —Vincent Giammarco, Director of Behavioral Health Care
Download or read book A Scholar of Pain written by Grant Jerkins and published by ABC Group Documentation, an imprint of Down & Out Books. This book was released on 2018-03-16 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In his debut short fiction collection, A Scholar of Pain, Grant Jerkins remains—as the Washington Post put it—“Determined to peer into the darkness and tell us exactly what he sees.” Here, the depth of that darkness is on evident, oftentimes poetic, display. We meet, and come reluctantly to sympathize with: The office chair-sniffer who only wants to be loved, a bottomed-out cough-syrup addict, a terminally ill school bus driver who takes her young riders on a drunken suicide run, and a cheated-on housewife who discovers her husband’s other woman isn’t a woman at all, but a…No spoilers here. Just read it. Read all sixteen of these deviant diversions. Peer into the darkness. Praise for A SCHOLAR OF PAIN: “A Scholar of Pain hits that literary sweet spot: Could be crime fiction, might be southern gothic—or even horror. The stories are funny as hell, too. And compassionate. In fact, Jerkins’ voice is amongst the most compassionate I’ve heard, because he extends it to some hideous wretches in a way that underscores the humanity I share with them. I heartily recommend Grant Jerkins.” —Jedidiah Ayers, author of Peckerwood and Fierce Bitches “Sophisticated. Elegant. Sleek and demolishing.” —Ryan Sayles, author of Subtle Art of Brutality and Warpath “A joyous celebration of the darkness within us all. With A Scholar of Pain, Grant Jerkins gives an unflinching look—with no anger or judgment—into the realities that surround us. It’s one thing to write a convincing and compassionate love story, but writing one that involves a sex doll, well that’s another thing completely.” —DH Tuck, author of Formica

The narrative mesmerizes from the outset. The pace is swift and the action enough to make any reader’s toes curl in frightening expectation.” —Art Cockerill, Writer and Journalist “I couldn’t put The Geneva Connection down once I started it. The intricate plot, laced with just enough background information to make it realistic and understandable, takes twist after turn until you reach the final destination, white-knuckling it all the way. An intense thrill ride through the world of investment banking, drug cartels, and money laundering.” —Long and Short Reviews “Novelist Martin Bodenham has penned The Geneva Connection, a thriller straddling the City, the English countryside, Mexican back roads and the US Drug Enforcement Administration. With this page-turner, Bodenham aspires to do for fund managers what John Grisham has done for lawyers.” —Corporate Financier Magazine “Bodenham, a dealmaker who made his name in the cut and thrust world of turnarounds, is a fine writer of thriller fiction.” —Real Deals Magazine

Download or read book New Jersey Mob written by Bob Buccino and published by Dorrance Publishing. This book was released on 2016-09-06 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New Jersey Mob: Memories of a Top Cop By Bob Buccino Bob Buccino worked in law enforcement for fifty-one years; twenty-four of which were spent investigating organized crime. He is a superior court recognized expert on the Cosa Nostra. He tells his story in three parts: The first is about growing up in Orange, New Jersey, where he was a wannabe admiring the local mob guys. He was a street tough, extorting money from his classmates, running his own bookmaking operation, and wanting to be a mob guy. In 1957, drugs hit the streets of Orange and several friends of Buccino died from Heroin overdoses. Buccino married his childhood sweetheart and they had a baby boy. He came to his senses about the mob and broke away from it. He became a working stiff, not getting anywhere with his life. One day, he saw an article in the newspaper announcing testing for state troopers. He took the test, passed, and became a trooper, changing his life forever. The second part of his book is about his often very humorous uniform days as a state trooper. During this time, Anthony “Tumac” Acceturo, a young tough that Buccino grew up with, was beginning his career in the Cosa Nostra. He and Buccino were running parallel lives. When Buccino got transferred off of the uniform division and began his career investigating the Cosa Nostra, Anthony was working for the mob. In the third part of his book, Buccino writes about his success in dismantling the mob in New Jersey, telling about the many arrests and convictions of its mob bosses, including the prosecutions of the high ranking bosses of the Gambino, Lucchese, Bruno, DeCavalcante, and Genovese crime families. He also writes of the arrest and conviction of his childhood friend Anthony “Tumac” Acceturo while he was the deputy chief in the Division of Criminal Justice in charge of the New Jersey Statewide Organized Crime Task Force.
