Book Tailored Systems Architecture for Design of Space Science and Technology Missions Using DoDAF V2 0

Download or read book Tailored Systems Architecture for Design of Space Science and Technology Missions Using DoDAF V2 0 written by and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The use of systems architecture, following a set of integrated descriptions from an architecture framework, has been well codified in Department of Defense acquisition and systems engineering. However, in the Space Science and Technology (S & T) community, this guidance and practice is not commonly adopted. This paper outlines an approach to leverage the changes made in DoD Architecture Framework 2.0 (DoDAF2.0), and the renewed emphasis on data and support to acquisition decision analysis. After decomposing the Space S & T design lifecycle into phases, design milestones and activities using process models, a set of DoDAF prescribed and Fit-for-Purpose views are constructed into a reference implementation of a system architecture. This approach attempts to make DoDAF2.0 more relevant and integrated with S & T missions and the decisions that are encountered.

Book Information technology architecture needed to guide modernization of DOD s financial operations

Download or read book Information technology architecture needed to guide modernization of DOD s financial operations written by and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2001 with total page 43 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To correct its long-standing and pervasive financial management weaknesses, the Department of Defense (DOD) plans to invest billions of dollars to modernize its financial management operations and supporting systems. Effectively managing such a large and complex endeavor requires, among other things, a well-defined and enforced blueprint for operational and technological change, commonly referred to as an enterprise architecture. Such an architecture provides a clear and comprehensive picture of an entity, whether it is an organization (e.g., federal department, agency, or bureau) or a functional or mission area that cuts across more than one organization (e.g., financial management or combat identification 1). This picture consists of three integrated components: a snapshot of the enterprise s current operational and technological environment, a snapshot of its target environment, and a capital investment road map for transitioning from the current to the target environment. The use of enterprise architectures is a best practice in information technology (IT) management followed by leading public and private organizations and is required by the Clinger-Cohen Act of 1996, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), and DOD. 2 Our experience with federal agencies has shown that attempting a major modernization effort without a complete and enforceable enterprise architecture results in systems that are duplicative, are not well integrated, are unnecessarily.

Book Landscape Simulation Modeling

    Book Details:
  • Author : Robert Costanza
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2006-06-02
  • ISBN : 0387215557

Download or read book Landscape Simulation Modeling written by Robert Costanza and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-06-02 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The world consists of many complex systems, ranging from our own bodies to ecosystems to economic systems. Despite their diversity, complex systems have many structural and functional features in common that can be effectively si- lated using powerful, user-friendly software. As a result, virtually anyone can - plore the nature of complex systems and their dynamical behavior under a range of assumptions and conditions. This ability to model dynamic systems is already having a powerful influence on teaching and studying complexity. The books in this series will promote this revolution in “systems thinking” by integrating computational skills of numeracy and techniques of dynamic mod- ing into a variety of disciplines. The unifying theme across the series will be the power and simplicity of the model-building process, and all books are designed to engage the reader in developing their own models for exploration of the dyn- ics of systems that are of interest to them. Modeling Dynamic Systems does not endorse any particular modeling paradigm or software. Rather, the volumes in the series will emphasize simplicity of lea- ing, expressive power, and the speed of execution as priorities that will facilitate deeper system understanding.

Book The Human Viewpoint for System Architectures

Download or read book The Human Viewpoint for System Architectures written by Holly A.H. Handley and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-02-19 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes a methodology to represent socio-technical system concerns in the system architecting process. The resulting set of Human Views augments traditional system viewpoints with human-focused data. The Human Viewpoint methodology classifies the socio-technical system context, identifies and collects pertinent data, renders models that can be used for discussion and analysis, and presents the results in Fit for Purpose views that are useful for decision making. The inclusion of the Human Viewpoint during the system architecting stage allows the evaluation of human-system design trade-offs, recognises the impact of the human operator on system performance, and provides the foundation for Human System Integration evaluations during the ensuing system development.
