Book Multimedia Research and Documentation of Oral Genres in Africa

Download or read book Multimedia Research and Documentation of Oral Genres in Africa written by Daniela Merolla and published by LIT Verlag Münster. This book was released on 2012 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book approaches a central concern of oral literature studies worldwide, with a special focus on Africa: how to deal with oral genres in a world where new technologies have become available to more and more people? As the book asserts, what is new is that the spotlight is directed towards (old and new) "interlocutors" who cooperate in the making of technologized oral genres in an increasingly technologized world. Their interactions affect the performance, as well as research - their roles and positions raise methodological and ethical questions particularly when local/national identities and commercial interests are at stake. Book Developmental work research

Download or read book Developmental work research written by Mutizwa Mukute and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2023-09-04 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Agriculture provides food and nutrition for all people and raw materials for industry. It is the source of employment and livelihoods for the majority of people in developing countries - including much of Sub-Saharan Africa. But agriculture faces sustainability and viability challenges, notably declining production and productivity, food and nutrition insecurity, and conflicting research and development approaches. Solutions to the challenges require innovation that involves transdisciplinary effort and multiple stakeholders. The Developmental Work Research (DWR) methodology enables practitioners, content and process specialists to work together and develop solutions that overcome complex agriculture challenges. DWR provides conceptual tools that utilise the distributed cognition and volition of agricultural stakeholders to produce lasting solutions. This book discusses the DWR methodology and how it can and has been used to facilitate collective innovation, transform agricultural practices, improve the livelihoods of farming communities and the land. It draws on DWR-inspired case studies in southern Africa, Finland and New Zealand. 'Mutizwa Mukute has written a much-needed introduction to developmental work research. The book is theoretically and methodologically sophisticated, yet solidly grounded in practice. It provides an excellent basis for conducting research and formative interventions in the domain of agricultural innovations, and beyond.' Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The political impact of HIV/AIDS varies greatly and is difficult to map. States depend on how governments choose to manage the political implications of HIV and AIDS, both those stemming from the erosions of its own capacity as well as those that originate from their changing relationship on a national and international level. Across the developing world, HIV/AIDS is slowly killing adults in their most productive years, hollowing out state structures, deepening poverty and raising profound questions that touch on the organization of all aspects of social, economic and political life. With the epidemic showing scant signs of slowing down, this innovative volume assesses how HIV/AIDS affects governance and, conversely, how governance affects the course of the epidemic. In particular, the volume: ·employs a compelling analytical and polemic framework for mapping the multiple dynamic mechanisms of governance and HIV/AIDS; ·brings together contributions from renowned international scholars from a variety of disciplines; ·draws on comprehensive and detailed perspectives of the roles of actors, institutions and structures; ·provides an incisive study of a global plague which threatens existing social, economic and human interrelations.

Book Digital Preservation and Documentation of Global Indigenous Knowledge Systems

Download or read book Digital Preservation and Documentation of Global Indigenous Knowledge Systems written by Masenya, Tlou Maggie and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2023-08-03 with total page 466 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Indigenous knowledge is regarded as undocumented cultural, local, traditional, and community knowledge produced and owned by local people in their specific communities. It is mainly preserved in the memories of elders and shared or passed on from generation to generation through oral communication, traditional practices, and demonstrations. This irreplaceable resource may be lost forever as a direct result of the pressures of modernization, colonization, and globalization. Concern over the loss of Indigenous knowledge has thus raised a need for the preservation and documentation of this knowledge in digital formats. Digital Preservation and Documentation of Global Indigenous Knowledge Systems determines how Indigenous knowledge can be documented and digitally preserved to benefit Indigenous knowledge owners and their communities and be accessible for future generations. The book provides the best practices, innovative strategies, theoretical and conceptual frameworks, and empirical research findings regarding the digital preservation and documentation of Indigenous knowledge systems worldwide. Covering topics such as digital media platforms, educational management, and knowledge systems, this premier reference source is a valuable and useful tool for students, information professionals, knowledge managers, records managers, Indigenous knowledge owners, Indigenous community leaders, librarians, archivists, computer scientists, information technology specialists, students and educators of higher education, researchers, and academicians.
