Book A Common Sense Practical Guide to Divorce in New York

Download or read book A Common Sense Practical Guide to Divorce in New York written by Lenard Marlow and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2020-07-02 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the exception of the loss of a child or someone very close, divorce is often the most difficult experience anyone will have to negotiate in his or her life. But what turns it into the tragedy that it so often becomes is the legal nonsense that they will be exposed to when they turn to divorce lawyers. Divorce lawyers don’t help. They only make things worse. That, unfortunately, has been the sad legacy that our adversarial legal system has bequeathed to divorcing husbands and wives. But it doesn’t have to be that way. And it doesn’t have to drag out for years or cost a king’s ransom. A lawyer is not just an advocate—someone who uses the law as a weapon in a legal tug of war the object of which is simply to get as much as you can and to give as little as you have to. As this book argues, a lawyer is also a counselor at law—someone who will use the law as a common framework that divorcing husbands and wives can look to in their effort to conclude an agreement. There is a name for this. It is called divorce mediation and it doesn’t take forever or cost a king’s ransom.

  • Author : Matt Goldish
  • Publisher : Princeton University Press
  • Release : 2008-07-21
  • ISBN : 9780691122656
  • Pages : 252 pages

Download or read book Jewish Questions written by Matt Goldish and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2008-07-21 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Jewish Questions, Matt Goldish introduces English readers to the history and culture of the Sephardic dispersion through an exploration of forty-three responsa--questions about Jewish law that Jews asked leading rabbis, and the rabbis' responses. The questions along with their rabbinical decisions examine all aspects of Jewish life, including business, family, religious issues, and relations between Jews and non-Jews. Taken together, the responsa constitute an extremely rich source of information about the everyday lives of Sephardic Jews. The book looks at questions asked between 1492--when the Jews were expelled from Spain--and 1750. Originating from all over the Sephardic world, the responsa discuss such diverse topics as the rules of conduct for Ottoman Jewish sea traders, the trials of an ex-husband accused of a robbery, and the rights of a sexually abused wife. Goldish provides a sizeable introduction to the history of the Sephardic diaspora and the nature of responsa literature, as well as a bibliography, historical background for each question, and short biographies of the rabbis involved. Including cases from well-known communities such as Venice, Istanbul, and Saloniki, and lesser-known Jewish enclaves such as Kastoria, Ragusa, and Nablus, Jewish Questions provides a sense of how Sephardic communities were organized, how Jews related to their neighbors, what problems threatened them and their families, and how they understood their relationship to God and the Jewish people.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A result of the author's own experience finding her way through a particularly traumatizing divorce, this guide includes the usual self-help aspect as well as stories and advice that other women were willing to share with the author to help any woman sail through a turbulent time. Offering a fresh and uncommon perspective beyond the already long list of books on divorce that focus on getting through a break up's emotional toll or how to deal with children, the book's usefulness covers a comprehensive list of solutions to challenges that arise from attorneys offering legal and financial advice to saving on cosmetics and holiday gifts. There is a practical list of household hints as well as methods for helping kids get through such an upsetting period and ways to confront health issues that arise as a result of a stressful time. The author stresses the importance of such a life transition and how this guide can be a safety net providing a myriad of suggestions that help women move from a victim status to regaining their strength of inner peace and wisdom. Every woman who finds herself in the middle of a break up will find this the ideal all-inclusive companion for moving on. WENDI SCHULLER is a pseudonym for a published author who has conducted classes on various subjects. She draws upon her knowledge as a nurse, Neuro-Linguistic Programmer (NLP), and hypnotherapist, providing a blueprint to guide women through this difficult transition. Schuller hired an attorney for a court divorce, but decided to go the collaborative route instead and has worked with a mediator post-divorce. Her passion is international travel and she devised savvy cost-cutting measures to achieve this dream. Schuller worked in the public schools and observed firsthand the effects of divorce on children. Her aim is to have families experience a smoother divorce, keeping their sanity intact and obtaining the healthiest outcome possible.

Book The Ex Wives Guide to Divorce

Download or read book The Ex Wives Guide to Divorce written by Holiday Miller and published by Skyhorse Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2016-08-16 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Witnessing a woman go through divorce is like watching a tornado tear up a trailer park. Not only is someone losing their home and life as they know it, but for most women, it seems to go down with some extra drama thrown in the mix. This is where the advice of authors, Holiday Miller and Valerie Shepherd, two experts in all things divorce, comes in handy. Their unique friendship began after they had both married and divorced the same man! The Ex Wives’ Guide to Divorce was born from this friendship with the goal to ease women’s fears, save them money, and give them a road map of what lies ahead. It will motivate women to get their head out of the sand and build their future dream sand castle by themselves, sans Prince Charming. Divorce is painful, heartbreaking, and pretty miserable for everyone involved. While men tend to champion the process, most women collapse and become emotionally distracted. Miller and Shepherd’s experience is while the husband is gathering ammunition with his high paid attorney; the wife is frantic and disorganized—most likely spending her energy on the phone with her best friend or sister, instead of preparing herself for the battle ahead. This helpful guide teaches women how to manage the “business of divorce” in a focused, realistic, and organized manner. Miller and Shepherd aren’t lawyers or psychologists, but they’ve experienced the process first hand and offer advice on how to build a support system and come out ahead. This book charges women to “put their big girl panties on” and maintain a tenacious spirit while preparing and organizing for their divorce.
