Book Diving Snorkeling Guide to Truk Lagoon and Pohnpei Kosrae 2024

Download or read book Diving Snorkeling Guide to Truk Lagoon and Pohnpei Kosrae 2024 written by Tim Rock and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2024-04-08 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Take a trip through Micronesia's most spectacular dive destinations. This book takes you to Chuuk, known to divers as Truk Lagoon, the best wreck diving destination in the world: Pohnpei and its fabulous drop-offs, passes and atolls, and Kosrae with its unsurpassed hard coral reefs. Truk Lagoon is the site of Operation Hailstone, the famous WWII air raid. The battle lasted three days and dozens of Japanese ships were sunk in the waters of the vast inner lagoon. Today, they are "shipreefs," historic wrecks adorned in corals and surrounded by marine life. For both history lovers and reef divers, these amazing dives will overload your senses and exhaust your superlatives. East of Truk are the islands of Pohnpei and Kosrae, full of beauty and mystery above the sea and below the surface. Pohnpei has a mysterious ancient city called Nan Madol, many waterfalls, high mountains, a huge barrier reef and two atolls that lie offshore. Pohnpei diving is famous for mantas, sharks and beautiful corals. Kosrae is another legendary natural wonder of the Pacific and it too has a mysterious set of ancient ruins and natural forests. With very little coastal development to spoil the extremely healthy hard coral reefs, this is nature at its wild best and there is a very special dive site among the mangroves. New for 2024, this book has been updated with the latest information, brand-new photographs and recently discovered dive sites. It gives you everything you need to plan a trip. There are over 150 full-color images and island maps. Author Tim Rock is an internationally published marine photojournalist and Lonely Planet author. He has lived in Micronesia for four decades and has travelled and dived around these wonderful Micronesian islands many times since his first visit in 1982. Book Dive Truk Lagoon

Download or read book Dive Truk Lagoon written by Rod Macdonald and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Truk Lagoon is quite simply the greatest wreck diving location in the world. Scores of virtually intact large WWII wrecks filled with cargoes of tanks, trucks, artillery, beach mines, shells and aircraft rest in the crystal clear waters of the Lagoon--each a man-made reef teeming with life. Truk was the main forward anchorage for the Japanese Imperial Navy and merchant fleet during the early days of WWII. The lagoon had been fortified by the Japanese in great secrecy during the 1930s--the Allies knew little about it. In total secrecy Operation Hailstone was prepared: nine U.S. carriers holding more than 500 combat aircraft steamed towards Truk--supported by a screen of battleships, cruisers, destroyers and submarines. Before dawn on 17 February, Strike Groups of 12 Hellcat fighters swept in low towards Truk under Japanese radar and immediately began strafing Japanese airfields. Soon, hundreds of aircraft were involved in one of the largest aerial dogfights of WWII which was over within an hour. This is the amazing story of Truk Lagoon and the turning of the tide in the Pacific War.

Book Scuba Exceptional

Download or read book Scuba Exceptional written by Simon Pridmore and published by Sandsmedia via PublishDrive. This book was released on 2020-08-02 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scuba Exceptional is the perfect sequel to Simon Pridmore's Scuba Confidential - An Insider's Guide to Becoming a Better Diver. It reflects the same philosophy of safe diving through the acquisition of knowledge and skills. The themes are new, there are some wonderful and extremely useful new cautionary tales and the focus this time is more on issues that face experienced divers. For example, there is more technical diving content but, as usual, Simon covers complex issues in his usual clear and easy-to-read style. In many cases, the concerns of technical divers reflect those of scuba divers at every level. After all, as he says, technical diving is on the same spectrum as conventional sport diving: it is just a different frequency. Scuba Exceptional also deals in detail with the psychological approach to scuba diving, broaching topics from new angles and borrowing techniques and procedures from other fields of human activity. While most of Scuba Exceptional focuses on the diver, it also takes a look at the wider picture and highlights a number of areas where scuba diving professionals and the “industry” as a whole are letting divers down. As always, Simon is realistic in his assessments. He may shine a little light on the dark side of the scuba diving world, but he does this in order to illuminate bad practice and encourage change, while offering solutions. He also provides insights on a wide range of topics. For instance, do you want to know... what makes someone a good diver? how to swim against a current without getting exhausted? how you can be out of air while you still have plenty to breathe? what the concept of failure points is? how to be a defensive diver? how preconditioning applies to scuba diving? how long you should really wait between diving and flying? when to call DAN (and when not to call)? how corals could possibly be animals when they look like rocks? how to avoid being left behind in the ocean? what’s happening in the world of rebreather diving? or what the perimeter of ignorance is? Scuba Exceptional has the answers to these questions and a lot more
