Download or read book The 112 Meditations From the Book of Divine Wisdom written by Lee Lyon and published by . This book was released on 2019-12-04 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 112 Meditations from the Book of Divine Wisdom is a translation of the meditations from the Vijnana Bhairava Tantra, a revered 8th century text from the Shaivite Tantric tradition of Kashmir, India. It has been rendered into English with commentary and guided practices by Lee Lyon, a teacher of meditation to more than ten thousand people worldwide, who has studied and taught this text for over forty years. Although written over a thousand years ago, the ideas and practices in this much loved text are timeless in nature, and reflect strikingly modern sensibilities. The meditations are well known for their wholehearted engagement of all aspects of life, even the traditionally 'non-spiritual', including yogic practices, emotions, the delight of the senses, sexuality, natural states of wonder, beauty, bliss and the experience of Oneness. The text, however, is more than just a collection of extraordinary and powerful meditation instructions. It embodies an ecstatic and life affirming world view that evolved into the philosophy of Kashmir Shaivism in the centuries that followed its writing. Rather than conceptualizing spirituality, in these meditations it is approached more like music or art. We can feel the tradition's direct contact with life--intimate, kind, amused, amazed, delighted--always trying to get us to relate to our experience, to life, to actually engage it rather than just observe or be mindful of it. Although traditionally considered a text for advanced meditators, many people with no formal experience in meditation have extraordinary shifts in consciousness using these practices. Even people who think themselves incapable of meditating find themselves easily entering new and altered states. Each original Sanskrit verse has been translated as literally as possible to help convey the actual meditation instruction embedded in the rich, multidimensional original. A short commentary and an example of how each meditation might be practiced, have been added after each verse to help explain the instruction. There are many different types of meditation in the text, recognizing always the incredible richness and uniqueness of our individual consciousness. As the text progresses, contemplative practices are woven in, culminating in some of the world's most sublime meditations on Oneness. By repeatedly encouraging us to see the spontaneous unity behind the surface appearance of life, and to step into our true Self, the text holds its place as one of the crown jewels of human thought.

This book was released on 2012-08-26 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This unique work is a 60 day puritan devotional. It houses 60 short meditations on various subjects that pull in both scripture and spiritual insight into their biblical comparisons; like the morning dew that is likened to the grace of God that descends in bounty each day for the good of his people. Spurstowe spent years developing these 60 devotional readings which cover everything from grace, to holiness, to justification, prayer, diligence, redemption and the majesty of God. The entries are continually magnificent in their employment of God’s grace and the work of Jesus Christ. In the preface, the original publisher said that such writings of Spurstowe were “holy flights of the soul” reaching up to heaven to taste of Christ at the right hand of God the Father. This is a rare puritan gem that should not be missed! This work is not a scan or facsimile, has been carefully transcribed by hand being made easy to read in modern English, and has an active table of contents for electronic versions.

This book was released on 2023-01-01 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book examines the ways in which adjectives contribute to the realization of the various language functions in several of Metropolitan Anthony Bloom’s (1914–2003) spirituality works and transcribed talks, as well as in their Romanian translated versions. In particular, it aims at offering an application of the communication theory (cf. Jakobson 1960/1987, Kinneavy 1980) to Metropolitan Anthony’s contemporary religious discourse and an investigation of the underlying lexical-semantic and pragmatic relations carried out by the adjectival class in order for discourse aim to be achieved. It also seeks to reveal the role of adjectives in the process of translation from English into Romanian, more specifically in preserving the source text functions in the target language. To this end, the study engages in an analysis of the hierarchical communicative functions in the corpus, as well as of the role played by adjectives both in the realization and transfer of the respective language functions. The present book, which may be of equal interest to researchers in linguistics and to theologians, demonstrates not only the pivotal role of adjectives in fulfilling communicative purposes specific to religious communication, but also their cohesive discourse role in Metropolitan Anthony’s legacy. At the same time, it highlights the outstanding status of the adjectival class in establishing the functional-cognitive correspondence between the source text and the target text in translation.
