Sister June is an excellent wife and mother, bearing four children to us: Adah Lael, Jonathan David and Benjamin Seth (twins), and Eva Christine. From 1993 through their graduation from high school, she homeschooled them in a most excellent way. While they were young, she also fulfilled the role of a nurse, as one of our twin sons, Benjamin, had brain cancer. At the age of nine, a massive tumor (4"×5") was removed from the front left lobe of his brain. At that time, there was no medical guarantee of his continuance in the body. June was trained to care for him, and she nursed him through a very critical period, administering medication, taking blood samples, and a host of other things associated with the kind of care Benjamin required. Today, 2009, he is a fine young man and is cancer-free. From the practical point of view, this is largely owing to the faithful care of his mother. In addition to the key role she plays in our home, Sister June is also an excellent minister of the Word of God. She teaches frequently in our various assemblies and is an indispensable companion in the good fight of faith as we journey together to the glory. She has an extraordinary grasp of the truth and has been gifted by the Lord to effectively communicate what she has been given to comprehend. She is also the proofreader of most of my writing and is a most profitable minister to my own spirit. Because of my love and respect for her, owing to her indispensable contribution to my own faith, and in gratefulness to our great God, I dedicate this volume to her.

When read against the backdrop of ancient ways of constructing personal identity, key texts in the Lukan narrative demonstrate that Luke indirectly characterizes Jesus as the one God of Israel together with YHWH. Henrichs-Tarasenkova employs a narrative approach that takes into consideration recent studies of narrative and history and enables her to construct characters of YHWH and Jesus within the Lukan narrative. She employs Richard Bauckham's concept of divine identity that she evaluates against her study of how one might speak of personal identity in the Greco-Roman world. She engages in close reading of key texts to demonstrate how Luke speaks of YHWH as God in order to demonstrate that Luke-Acts upholds a traditional Jewish view that only the God of Israel is the one living God and to eliminate false expectations for how Luke should speak of Jesus as God. This analysis establishes how Luke binds Jesus' identity to the divine identity of YHWH and concludes that the Lukan narrative, in fact, does portray Jesus as God when it shows that Jesus shares YHWH's divine identity.

Christian theologians historically have affirmed that there is a more fundamental type of oneness attributable to God. God is one not merely in the sense of being the only God, but also in the sense of being simple or non-composite, having no parts of any kind. In this way, God is said to be an absolute unity. After a consideration of all the evidence, Barry D. Smith reaches the conclusion that there is no basis for ascribing simplicity to God. The simplicity doctrine is not found in Scripture and the traditional arguments used to establish it are unconvincing. In addition, the recent defenses of the simplicity doctrine prompted by Alvin Plantinga's work Does God Have a Nature? are unsuccessful. It should not be thought, however, that the rejection of divine simplicity means that by default God must be conceived as composite, not even as a perfect composite with maximally great, God-making properties. Rather, there is a third option: God should not be conceived as either simple or composite. The question of in which mode God has attributes or exemplifies properties should be set aside.
