Download or read book Distorted Visions written by Dr. Gayles Evans and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2019-07-31 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When Dr. Gayles Evans set out to research how a distorted vision created the violent obsession of those who were bullying others, she discovered that this mental abuse changed many lives. Numerous victims of bullying were stalked, and some who were abused committed suicide. In Distorted Vision, she provides glimpses into her own life and upbringing as she explores the topic of how people make a variety of counterproductive choices for living as a result of distorted perceptions of reality. The research into that topic led Evans into other areas of how having a distorted vision affects society, such as alcoholism, drug abuse, discrimination, sexual harassment, violence against women, and bullying. Distorted Vision discusses how no one is physically or mentally perfect. Everyone must come to grips with their own demons and fantasies and accept them before a clear lens can be formed. All must find their own ways into the light and clear their own paths to develop a defined vision of life.

Download or read book Bitter Sweet written by Brenda Stubbs Lawrence and published by Strategic Book Publishing & Rights Agency. This book was released on 2023-03-08 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bitter/Sweet: Surviving the Struggle Within describes my efforts to face the fears and pain of love and self-love, sickness and health, death and spirituality, and forgiveness. It also expresses my hope to find the answers to life’s questions. First I had to acknowledge self, because without self-acknowledgement, every obstacle will magnify. In understanding what makes me tick and how my past could hold me back, I learned to love myself, which allowed me to find true love. Bitter poisons that once flowed through my veins, are now replaced with the sweet taste of honey. My agonies, frustrations, and pain took me on one excursion after another. The only true journey toward growth and fulfillment is tunneling through the many avenues of self. I had to go within before I could move forward. I had to master this expedition. No matter what I seek, everything I need is already inside me. Am I important enough to myself to go within and search for what I want and need? It is what I choose to accept about my life that will make it “Bitter” or “Sweet.” And I realize that I am not alone. Everyone experiences pain and discord. I hope my words reach others so they too can rejoice. I have learned to celebrate the child within to overcome past hurts and all the old “Bitter/Sweet” experiences. This chronicles where I have been, where I am today, and what I have accomplished.
Download or read book Spectacle in Classical Cinemas written by Tom Brown and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-08-11 with total page 472 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spectacle is not often considered to be a significant part of the style of ‘classical’ cinema. Indeed, some of the most influential accounts of cinematic classicism define it virtually by the supposed absence of spectacle. Spectacle in ‘Classical’ Cinemas: Musicality and Historicity in the 1930s brings a fresh perspective on the role of the spectacular in classical sound cinema by focusing on one decade of cinema (the 1930s), in two ‘modes’ of filmmaking (musical and historical films), and in two national cinemas (the US and France). This not only brings to light the special rhetorical and affective possibilities offered by spectacular images but refines our understanding of what ‘classical’ cinema is and was.
Download or read book The Importance of Philosophy in Teacher Education written by Andrew D. Colgan and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-08-29 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Importance of Philosophy in Teacher Education maps the gradual decline of philosophy as a central, integrated part of educational studies. Chapters consider how this decline has impacted teacher education and practice, offering new directions for the reintegration of philosophical thinking in teacher preparation and development. Touching on key points in history, this valuable collection of chapters accurately appraises the global decline of philosophy of education in teacher education programs and seeks to understand the external and endemic causes of changed attitudes towards a discipline which was once assigned such a central place in teacher education. Chapters illustrate how a grounding in the theoretical and ethical dimensions of teaching, learning, and education systems contribute in meaningful ways to being a good teacher, and trace the consequences of a decline in philosophy on individuals’ professional development and on the evolution of the teaching profession more broadly. With this in mind, the text focusses on the future of teacher education and considers how we can ensure that philosophy of education feeds into the excellence of teaching today. This book will be of great interest to graduate, postgraduate students as well as research scholars in the field of educational philosophy and history of education. In addition, it will be useful for those involved in teacher education, and in particular, course, module and program development.

Download or read book The Productive Tension of Hawthorne s Art written by Claudia Durst Johnson and published by University of Alabama Press. This book was released on 1981 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In both his short fiction and major works, Nathaniel Hawthorne, like many romantics, is torn between the eighteenth-century view of an orderly, balanced, static art and universe, on the one hand, and the nineteenth-century conception of a changeful, various art on the other. Hawthorne based his social and psychological values on an organic view of the world, but the world of his art tended to be mechanistic. Johnson argues that Hawthorne found in theology the myths which became vehicles for his exploration of his art.

Download or read book Literature and Film from East Europe s Forgotten Second World written by Gordana P. Crnkovic and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2021-05-06 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia-no longer on the map. East Europe of the socialist period may seem like a historical oddity, apparently so different from everything before and after. Yet the masterpieces of literature and cinema from this largely forgotten Second World, as well as by the authors formed in it and working in its aftermath, surprise and delight with their contemporary resonance. This book introduces and illuminates a number of these works. It explores how their aesthetic ingenuity discovers ways of engaging existential and universal predicaments, such as how one may survive in the world of victimizations, or imagine a good city, or broach the human boundaries to live as a plant. Like true classics of world art, these novels, stories, and films-to rephrase Bohumil Hrabal-keep telling us things about ourselves we don't know. In lively and jargon-free prose, Gordana P. Crnkovic builds on her rich teaching experience to create paths to these works and reveal how they changed lives.

Download or read book The South Notts Hussars The Western Desert 1940 1942 written by Peter Hart and published by Pen and Sword. This book was released on 2011-03-31 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Second World War is vanishing into the pages of history. The veterans were once all around us, but their numbers are fast diminishing. While still in their prime many recorded their memories with Peter Hart for the Imperial War Museum. As these old soldiers now fade away their voices from the front are still strong with a rare power to bring the horrors of war back to vivid life. The South Notts Hussars were the pride of Nottingham. A territorial artillery unit made up of a strange mixture of miners from Hucknall, the clerical classes working in Nottingham and some of the richest families in Nottinghamshire. They went to war as a widely disparate group. Their service in North Africa was dramatic in the extreme. Trapped in Tobruk for six months their 25-pounder guns helped keep Rommel's panzers at bay. By the time they moved forward to take up their positions at Knightsbridge in the Gazala Lines in the Spring of 1942 they had been welded into a real band of brothers proud of their proven fighting ability. Caught without infantry or tank support in the Cauldron they were ordered to fight to the last round. This is their story.

Download or read book Empowering Couples written by Duane R. Bidwell and published by Fortress Press. This book was released on 2013-02-01 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Couples can make significant progress toward resolving their own problems when they receive appropriate guidance from a caring person. This book outlines five tasks focused on identity, agency, and meaning that spiritual caregivers can use to empower couples for significant change in just three to five conversations. This form of "empowering guidance" is a dimension of pastoral conversation rather than formal counseling. Critically integrating desert spiritual theology with empirical data about successful marriages, Bidwell advocates for mutuality and partnership within covenanted relationships, which allows partners to create an alliance strong enough to resist the forces that threaten relationships--especially the negative influences of criticism, contempt, defensiveness, and withdrawal.
