Download or read book Dissed Trust written by William DeMersseman and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2010-09-30 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Distrust of government is a natural response to a controlling and out-of-control bureaucracy. The motivation for protest and reform is not animosity towards government and its legitimate functions, but a love of America and a passionate desire to pass on to the next generation the innumerable blessings of liberty. Citizens are frightened by the governments relentless growth, unsustainable debt trajectory, culture of corruption, and encroachment of individual rights.... Critics of the tea party movement attempt to derail it with meritless claims of racism, extremism, bigotry, conspiracy, class-warfare and malice. The claims are ridiculous. Tea party participants include members of every party, social class, ethnicity, age and gender; they hold varying views on a number of issues, but share a deep appreciation for the limited, constitutional government established by Americas founders. They see Washingtons profligate spending, imperious unaccountability, and reprobate political environment as symptoms of a federal government that recognizes no limitations on its power. They feel a civic responsibility to speak out and to work toward a return to constitutional governance and sound fiscal policy. This is not a book about the tea party movement. It is a book about the political, economic and cultural upheavals fueling the movement: the insanely escalating national debt; the increasingly coercive and contemptuous political establishment; the arrogant failure of true political leadership; and the pervasive assault on the society-sustaining virtues of truth, trust, integrity, morality, freedom, and civility.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Test Drive deals with the war perpetrated by highly determined reactionary forces on science and research. How does the government at once promote and prohibit scientific testing and undercut the importance of experimentation? To what extent is testing at the forefront of theoretical and practical concerns today? Addressed to those who are left stranded by speculative thinking and unhinged by cognitive discourse, The Test Drive points to a toxic residue of uninterrogated questions raised by Nietzsche, Husserl and Derrida. Ranging from the scientific probe to modalities of testing that include the limits of friendship or love, this work explores the crucial operations of an uncontestable legitimating machine. Avital Ronell offers a tour-de-force reading of legal, pharmaceutical, artistic, scientific, Zen, and historical grids that depend upon different types of testability, involving among other issues what it means to put oneself to the test.

Book Ghetto Religiosity II

Download or read book Ghetto Religiosity II written by Khalil Amani and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2001-08 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The primary focus of this book is our religious understanding of sex. It is the author's premise that the sexual attitudes of today were erroneously and maliciously set up by men whose ultimate aim was to control the sexual practices of the ancient Jews and the rights of women. Most controversial is our present view of homosexuality and how the Bible has thoroughly misshaped our ideas about homosexual love. The case is made that homosexuality is not a sin against God but rather a conspiracy conjured up by the machinations of the ancient Levitical priests."It's high-time someone came along with a voice that speaks the truth about our 'Western' brainwashing without trying to proselytize to a particular brand of religion. Someone that doesn't skirt the issues because of denominational ties. I cannot be excommunicated, defrocked, or untenured! Neither am I bound by the Masonic sword. I speak freely! ...Many preachers merely parrot the party-line to keep their congregation in a religious coma, extracting thousands and millions of dollars to feed their ostentatious lifestyle If you want to know the truth, here it is! Peep it and recognize!" -The Author

Download or read book Deep Secrets written by Niobe Way and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 2013-05-06 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ÒBoys are emotionally illiterate and donÕt want intimate friendships.Ó In this empirically grounded challenge to our stereotypes about boys and men, Niobe Way reveals the intense intimacy among teenage boys especially during early and middle adolescence. Boys not only share their deepest secrets and feelings with their closest male friends, they claim that without them they would go Òwacko.Ó Yet as boys become men, they become distrustful, lose these friendships, and feel isolated and alone. Drawing from hundreds of interviews conducted throughout adolescence with black, Latino, white, and Asian American boys, Deep Secrets reveals the ways in which we have been telling ourselves a false story about boys, friendships, and human nature. BoysÕ descriptions of their male friendships sound more like Òsomething out of Love Story than Lord of the Flies.Ó Yet in late adolescence, boys feel they have to Òman upÓ by becoming stoic and independent. Vulnerable emotions and intimate friendships are for girls and gay men. ÒNo homoÓ becomes their mantra. These findings are alarming, given what we know about links between friendships and health, and even longevity. Rather than a Òboy crisis,Ó Way argues that boys are experiencing a Òcrisis of connectionÓ because they live in a culture where human needs and capacities are given a sex (female) and a sexuality (gay), and thus discouraged for those who are neither. Way argues that the solution lies with exposing the inaccuracies of our gender stereotypes and fostering these critical relationships and fundamental human skills.

Book Trust

  • Author : Iyanla Vanzant
  • Publisher : Hay House, Inc
  • Release : 2015-12-08
  • ISBN : 1401944841
  • Pages : 312 pages

Download or read book Trust written by Iyanla Vanzant and published by Hay House, Inc. This book was released on 2015-12-08 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "You just can’t trust anyone!" seems to be a constant refrain in the modern world. Indeed, learning to trust is one of life’s most difficult lessons. "That’s because trust is not a verb," says legendary life coach Iyanla Vanzant, "it’s a noun. Trust is a state of mind and a state of being." In this wise book, the New York Times best-selling author and host of OWN’s popular reality TV show Iyanla: Fix My Life reveals how to cultivate this liberating power—by exploring what trust really is, how to trust, and why to trust. She outlines the special rewards that come from mastering the four essential trusts: trust in God, trust in yourself, trust in others, and trust in life. And she challenges us to see how each of these are actually deeply interconnected. Too often our fear of whether or not we can really trust an individual or an institution and what they represent erodes our confidence and undermines our relationships. When trust is broken or there is a betrayal, it can bring us face-to-face with our shadow, revealing that someone has failed to live up to our expectations and thus "outs" our hidden beliefs. "You never get what you ask for; you always get what you expect," says Iyanla. When someone betrays our trust it reveals the high price paid for such deep disconnection. This book’s pragmatic trust-building prescriptions demonstrate how communication, consistency, and cooperation can antidote trust-destroying behaviors and revitalize us with increased authenticity, greater resilience, and renewed peace in every part of our lives.

Book Using Qualitative Methods in Psychology

Download or read book Using Qualitative Methods in Psychology written by Mary Kopala and published by SAGE Publications. This book was released on 1999-04-20 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The field of psychology has been characterized by an interesting schism in the area of research methods. The promotion of the scientific method and the emphasis on experimental methodology helped give psychology an identity as a hard science and legitimacy as a discipline. Yet from the beginning, observations of behavior formed the very basis of the field of psychology. Psychologists such as Freud and Piaget used observational qualitative methods to form their theories –which continue to be major cornerstones of contemporary psychology. Editors Mary Kopala and Lisa A. Suzuki have collected a series of essays that help to consider the philosophical foundations for conducting qualitative research in psychological settings, as well as illustrating the application of those methods. Broad-based and inclusive, Using Qualitative Methods in Psychology examines such topics as multicultural issues, supervision, program evaluation, teaching qualitative research, ethics, and therapeutic settings. Using Qualitative Methods in Psychology will be a crucial addition to the libraries of teachers and researchers interested in psychological research methods writ large, and especially to those interested in qualitative research methods.

Book Stories of Inclusion

Download or read book Stories of Inclusion written by Deborah A. Piatelli and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2009-01-16 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why are some white, middle-class activists experiencing difficulty creating alliances across racial and class differences? What are the obstacles and what is being done to overcome them? What type of movement structures, cultures, and practices can best facilitate inter-racial, inter-class solidarity? Stories of Inclusion? explores these questions through an ethnographic study of a predominately white, middle-class contemporary peace and justice network that is working to create a racially and class diverse community of activists. Addressing a very significant and greatly under researched topic, Stories of Inclusion? raises important and critical questions for the peace movement as well as larger society. In accessible prose, this study bridges the literatures of social movement theory, critical race studies, and feminist theory, and offers new insight into how power and privilege can affect the process of creating inclusive communities. Drawing on data the author collected through in-depth interviews, interpretive focus groups, and over two years of participant observation, this study explores how white, middle-class privilege influences political analyses, definitions of peace work, and approaches to alliance building. The findings are compelling and reveal that even those who have developed an oppositional political consciousness and have pledged to work across racial and class divides can still foster exclusive organizing practices. This study also offers examples on how some activists are acknowledging privilege, transforming their worldviews, and beginning to establish fruitful relationships across differences. This important work emphasizes the continuing importance of race for those collective actors attempting to construct inclusive movements across diverse groups, while also offering important practical solutions on how to bridge differences. The conclusion offers a framework for building a new agenda for the peace and justice movement.
