Book Disinfectants

Download or read book Disinfectants written by Ana Sofia Cardoso and published by Nova Publishers. This book was released on 2017 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Antiseptics and disinfectants are extensively used at home, in occupied buildings, recreational areas, industries (the water industry, food processing industry and pharmaceutical industry, among others), hospitals and other healthcare settings for a variety of topical and hard-surface applications. They play a critical role in controlling the spread of environmentally transmitted pathogens in healthcare and food-processing environments, as well as at home. A wide variety of active chemical agents are found in these products, many of which have been used for hundreds of years for antisepsis, disinfection, and preservation. Although its main purpose is to control human exposure to microorganisms through preventive action, its use should also be carefully controlled in order to prevent healthcare problems that may consequently emerge due to their toxicity. The problems regarding the use of disinfectants are not new, although unquestionably tangible and pertinent, due to its broad application in the referred economical activities, as well as due to the development and emerging of new compounds with this activity. This book aims to address the various scenarios regarding the use of disinfectants. Accordingly, through its eleven chapters it is possible to become aware of the wide range of disinfectant applications, as well as the concerning advantages and limitations of its use. This book is divided into two main sections. The first section, after an overview regarding the use of disinfectants in society, addresses questions related to its toxicology and health repercussions along with microbiological mechanisms. In the second section, a far-reaching exploration of the application of disinfectants in a set of specifically selected economic activities, alongside issues concerning their environmental impact and regulatory matters is addressed. This section also includes two case studies on novel disinfection methods.

Book Diagnosis and Control of Diseases of Fish and Shellfish

Download or read book Diagnosis and Control of Diseases of Fish and Shellfish written by Brian Austin and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2017-09-25 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There has been a continual expansion in aquaculture, such that total production is fast approaching that of wild-caught fisheries. Yet the expansion is marred by continued problems of disease. New pathogens emerge, and others become associated with new conditions. Some of these pathogens become well established, and develop into major killers of aquatic species. Diagnosis and Control of Diseases of Fish and Shellfish focuses on the diagnosis and control of diseases of fish and shellfish, notably those affecting aquaculture. Divided into 12 chapters, the book discusses the range of bacterial, viral and parasitic pathogens, their trends, emerging problems, and the relative significance to aquaculture. Developments in diagnostics and disease management, including the widespread use of serological and molecular methods, are presented. Application/dose and mode of action of prebiotics, probiotics and medicinal plant products used to control disease are examined, as well as the management and hygiene precautions that can be taken to prevent/control the spread of disease. This book will be a valuable resource for researchers, students, diagnosticians, veterinarians, fish pathologists and microbiologists concerned with the management of diseases of fish and shellfish.

Book Hospital Grade Disinfectants

Download or read book Hospital Grade Disinfectants written by Dr. Nelson Cheng PhD and published by Partridge Publishing Singapore. This book was released on 2020-11-18 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The number of new infectious diseases has dramatically risen in the last decades. The current coronavirus pandemic is in some ways unprecedented, but it also exposes an alarming pattern. The World Health Organization reports infectious diseases kill more than 17million people a year and more 30 new diseases have appeared in the last two decades. The complexity of tackling infectious diseases is also due to the world travel due to effluent of many developed countries. A health crisis on the other side of the globe is just a plane ride away. Currently, for many of these diseases, there is no treatment, cure, or vaccine. Medical chronic conditions like diabetes complicate health issues, more people will have weaker immune responses to fight off these burgeoning health threats. Hence the best form of defence against such infectious diseases is prevention, this book focuses on methods used to combat such diseases, as the old proverbial saying “Prevention is Better Than Cure”.
