Book World Development Report 2019

Download or read book World Development Report 2019 written by World Bank and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2018-10-31 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Work is constantly reshaped by technological progress. New ways of production are adopted, markets expand, and societies evolve. But some changes provoke more attention than others, in part due to the vast uncertainty involved in making predictions about the future. The 2019 World Development Report will study how the nature of work is changing as a result of advances in technology today. Technological progress disrupts existing systems. A new social contract is needed to smooth the transition and guard against rising inequality. Significant investments in human capital throughout a person’s lifecycle are vital to this effort. If workers are to stay competitive against machines they need to train or retool existing skills. A social protection system that includes a minimum basic level of protection for workers and citizens can complement new forms of employment. Improved private sector policies to encourage startup activity and competition can help countries compete in the digital age. Governments also need to ensure that firms pay their fair share of taxes, in part to fund this new social contract. The 2019 World Development Report presents an analysis of these issues based upon the available evidence.

Book From the Garden to the Street

Download or read book From the Garden to the Street written by Morag Styles and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 1997-06-01 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From John Bunyan's 'country rhimes' to rude chants about Manchester United, from Ted Hughes to Edward Lear, and from William Blake to the Taylor sisters, Morag Styles covers three hundred years of poetry with infectious enthusiasm and a keen critical eye. In this scholarly and fascinating book, she provides an informative account of the history of poetry written for children in Britain and America in the last three centuries. She analyses the major poets, genres and developments over this period, and traces the continuities between the past and the present. Styles asks fundamental questions which have often been left unanswered: What do we mean by children's poetry? Why did such a seemingly small number of women write poetry for children until recently? The author subscribes to the widest possible definition of poetry, and so the reader will find in this book hymns, songs, playground rhymes, raps and verse - whether trivial or profound. From the Garden to the Street will provoke, inform and entertain academics of children's literature, those who teach it in the classroom, and all of us who still take pleasure in the poetry of childhood.

However, as this book will prove, you can draw some really cool stuff in just under five minutes. By limiting their time, artists will start to see only the most essential parts of a subject while communicating action, movement, and expression into one timed drawing. This book is jam-packed with step-by-step lessons for drawing cool objects quickly - in 5-minutes or less! Author, artist, and instructor Catherine V. Holmes will start by teaching you how to quickly interpret basic information onto paper using simple but meaningful lines made with purpose. Start by observing, then draw the main shapes within your object. Next, you'll find simple lines and smaller shapes that build on the original ones, blocking in areas with lines and curves to represent the major details of your subject. The final steps should be filling your subject in with tone and refining shadows and highlights. Drawing under a time limit is a wonderful exercise that will help you learn how to draw more instinctively and gain a better understanding of form. The final outcome is not meant to be a polished drawing, but rather an all-around practice exercise that will improve your game and help you draw really some cool stuff with ease. The fifth book in the How To Draw Cool Stuff series, this exciting new title will teach you how to create simple illustrations using basic shapes and a drawing technique that simplifies the process of drawing, all while helping you construct height, width, and depth in your work. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: xXx Fanzine isn't merely a collection of articles, reviews, and photographs from one of Hardcore America's best-known fanzines. It's a chronicle of punk's evolution in the 80's: a story of music and ideologies in motion. xXx's story picks up while the first wave of hardcore was in full swing. Major players including Minor Threat had already released landmark records, and bands were loading up station wagons to play now infamous venues like The Channel, A7 or D.C. Space. Now, in addition to reproducing (and restoring) original interviews and pages from the zine itself, xXx Fanzine re-interviews countless bands and musical prime-movers including Ian MacKaye, Keith Morris and members of Agnostic Front, Bad Brains and Cro-Mags to give the book a rare "Then-And-Now" perspective. xXx Fanzine isn't just a look back at hardcore's salad days, but a unique look at how punk's music and message shook the mainstream itself.
