Book excerpt: Excerpt from Diseases of the Stomach, Intestines, and Pancreas Since many physicians have neither the time nor the opportunity to devote to a clinical course in gastro-enterology, and next in value for the purpose of instruction, is the employment of photography, I have taken extensive advantage of the latter method. Many of the illustrations are from photographs of patients at the Manhattan State Hospital taken by Mr. Hill, the official photographer, for whose services I am indebted to Dr. Wm. Mabon, the medical director. Some of the illustrations have been made by my artist, Mr. Thomas Nast, Ir., from models. This book was released on 2019-02-14 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Treatment of the Diseases of the Stomach and Intestines A few words may be said concerning the division of the subject adopted in this book. There is first a chapter on semeiological technique, in which we have described the principal methods employed for the examination of the contents of the stomach, of the faeces, and of the urine, with a view especially to the diagnosis of dyspeptic conditions. We have limited ourselves to an exposition of the simple elementary details which are indispensable to a good clini cal examination. This is not because the physician al ways ought to or can make researches of this kind but it is by means of them that we have gained what additional knowledge we now possess of the nature of dyspepsia, and one should be able to carry them out, since they alone give us certain information as to the chemical variety of gas tric dyspepsia with which we have to deal. Download or read book Functional and Organic Diseases of the Stomach Classic Reprint written by Sidney Martin and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11 with total page 524 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Functional and Organic Diseases of the Stomach IT is some years since a systematic treatise on diseases of the stomach was published in English. No apology is there fore necessary for the issue of this work. During the past few years great advances have been made not. Only in patho logical chemistry, but in pathology generally; and these advances specially affect the study of functional and organic diseases of the stomach, inasmuch as the changes in the processes of digestion in disease have been studied during life, with the result of throwing great light not only on the symptoms, but also on the treatment of these diseases. Since it is possible to study changes in secretion, and, to a less extent, those in motor activity of the stomach during life, the functional disorders of the organ can be with advantage discussed in a separate treatise. This book was released on 2015-07-09 with total page 598 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Diseases of the Stomach With Special Reference to Treatment The attention of the reader is drawn to pathologic conditions due to ptosis of the abdominal viscera, as the author has obtained good results in the treatment of gastroptosis by employing the principle of mechanical support. Achylia Gastrica is considered under the head of Chronic Gastritis because the latter involves the diminution and eventual cessation of gastric secretion. The author wishes to make acknowledgment of his indebtedness to the many American practitioners who have contributed so greatly to the advancement of gastroenterology, and to the foreign writers whose scientific achievements have received approval nowhere more cordially than in this country. Book Diseases of the Stomach Classic Reprint

Download or read book Diseases of the Stomach Classic Reprint written by Franz Riegel and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-28 with total page 866 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Diseases of the Stomach The appearance in English of Professor Riegel's book will prove a satisfaction to the many who have awaited its publication, because the words are those of a master who spares neither time nor pains in per fecting his work. With characteristic absence of posing, in simple, strong, and dignified language, the author has presented his subject with such sincerity and clearness that his views will meet almost invariably with ready acceptance. It has been a pleasure to give the work the careful examination necessary, and to compare his statements with those in current literature. The text has required but few modifications and additions to make it thoroughly represent the thought of the year. This is so for the reason that, although many contributions have been pub lished since the appearance of the German edit-ion, some of these have been the thrashing out of old straw, and others have been anticipated by the far-sightedness of the author. To the subjects of periodic vomit ing in children, syphilis of the stomach, the etiology of gastric ulcer, the blood in ulcer and cancer, diet in hyperacidity, acute dilatation of the stomach, digestion leukocytosis, benign tumors of the stomach, achylia gastrica, hematemesis of hepatic cirrhosis, congenital stenosis of the pylorus, operative procedure in stomach diseases, and to a few others, some words have been added, but pains have been taken not to change the author's own statements. All new matter presented in the volume is included in brackets, so that the reader will have, as nearly as the translation will admit, the work of Riegel, with the additions of some views for which the editor is alone responsible. In conclusion, I desire to express my thanks to Professor Alfred Stengel, the editor-in-chief, for thoughtful suggestions, to the publishers for numerous courtesies, and to Dr. Allen A. Jones for assistance in proof-reading and other particulars. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Diseases of the Stomach and Upper Alimentary Tract Classic Reprint

Download or read book Diseases of the Stomach and Upper Alimentary Tract Classic Reprint written by Anthony Bassler and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-29 with total page 1054 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Diseases of the Stomach and Upper Alimentary Tract IN the advancing of this volume it is not the purpose of the author to assist in the erroneous movement of divorcing the diseases Of the stomach and upper alimentary tract from the field of internal medicine to which it rightfully belongs. Nor does he wish to approach the consideration of gastro-enterology by including it in the broader field, and thus add to these pages all of the subject matter found in text-books on the Principles and Practice Of Medicine. In these more scientific days of our profession, ardent workers in the fields of physiology and nosology of the alimentary canal have elucidated much of practical value. My observations have coincided with some and been at variance with others; my experiences and thoughts have led me along a few modest lines of my own, and these, with some new personal contributions herein corporated, and the desire to write a scientific and handy work for the busy general practitioner of medicine, a book which is practical rather than charged with the dis eussions and the theories of different observers, are my reasons for the offering of this treatise. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Practical Treatise on Various Diseases of the Abdominal Viscera As I do not mean to introduce anv mat ter, which has not been the result of my own practice, or which has not arisen from my own experience in the practice of others, the reader must not expect to find in this work a regular history of the abdo minal diseases as they are recorded by the authors, who have collected the opinions of others, on this ample and important theme.
