Download or read book Diseases of the Pancreas and Their Surgical Treatment written by Arthur William Mayo Robson and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-16 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Diseases of the Pancreas and Their Surgical Treatment It is only within recent years that any material progress in regard to our knowledge of the functions and diseases of the pancreas has been made. The admirable works of Korte and Oser, the fruitful researches of Opie and others into the functions and significance of the islands of Langerhans, the observations lately made as to the causation and treatment of acute and chronic pancreatitis, - have all attracted much attention from the profession, and have excited a keener interest in the pathology and treatment of the diseases of this gland. The publication of a work dealing with the surgical aspects of pancreatic disease may therefore be held to have a twofold object: to record and to review the work done in the past, and to indicate, so far as is possible, the scope and trend of future research. This has been our intention, and these have been our aims in the present work; and though we recognize fully its incompleteness, we venture to think that this is, in no small measure, inevitable in the present state of our knowledge. Book Surgical Treatment of Pancreatic Diseases

Download or read book Surgical Treatment of Pancreatic Diseases written by Walter Siquini and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-05-30 with total page 526 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pancreatic diseases are a crucial issue not only because of their epidemiological significance, and their anatomical and metabolic complexity, but also because of the different treatment options available and their implications for surgery. Due to the slow but steady increase in the incidence of pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer, these diseases are today a real challenge for the surgeon. This volume presents the state of the art of surgery in the treatment of inflammatory and neoplastic pancreatic diseases, describing in detail the different approaches and their most relevant technical aspects. Also described are conventional and interventional radiology, operative endoscopy and endoscopic ultrasonography (which has recently acquired a diagnostic role), and adjuvant and neoadjuvant therapy for treatment or palliation: for only a multidisciplinary approach can produce a global vision, a winning strategy for the optimization of results. Along with the texts, all written by experts, the volume includes color images and drawings. It will prove itself a very useful tool in clinical practice.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Pancreas: Its Surgery and Pathology In the chapter on histology, and again later under the heading of diabetes, we have discussed the structure and supposed functions of those characteristic groups of cells known as the islands of Langerhans. In doing so we have endeavoured to impartially summarise the evidence for and against the contending views that are held with regard to them, but, as will be gathered from the text, we personally are of opinion that the balance of available evidence strongly points to their being independent struc tures related to the control of carbohydrate metabolism within the body that the pancreas undoubtedly exerts. Book The Surgical Treatment of Cysts of the Pancreas Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Surgical Treatment of Cysts of the Pancreas Classic Reprint written by Nicholas Senn and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-15 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Surgical Treatment of Cysts of the Pancreas The pancreas, like other secretory organs, is prone to become the seat of cystic tumors, the result of obliteration or obstruction of the common duct, or one or more of its branches. Cysts originating in this manner are true retention cysts, containing the physiological secretion from the distal portion of the gland tissue, with perhaps accidental products, such as altered secretions, blood, and the products of inflammation. In the preparation of this paper it has been my intention to present to you a full report of a case of retention cyst of the pancreas which has recently come under my observation, and, at the same time, bring before you in a compact form the clinical history of similar cases, which will serve as a basis for some general remarks on the surgical treatment of cysts of the pancreas.
