Book Discrete Event Hybrid Systems in Robotics and Automation

Download or read book Discrete Event Hybrid Systems in Robotics and Automation written by Tarek M. Sobh and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The underlying mathematical representation of complex robotic and manufacturing computer-controlled systems is still insufficient to create a set of models which accurately captures the dynamics of the system over the entire range of system operation. We remain in a situation where we must trade of the accuracy of our models with the manageability of the models. Closed-form solutions of mathematical models are almost exclusively limited to linear system models. Computer simulation of non-linear hybrid and discrete-event models provide a means for online design of robotic control systems. Guarantees of system performance are limited to those regions where the robustness conditions apply. These conditions may not apply during start-up and shutdown or during periods of anomalous operation. Attempts have been made to model low and high-level system changes in automated and robotic systems as discrete event dynamic systems, DEDS, and hybrid systems. Several attempts to improve modelling capabilities are focused on mapping the continuous world into a discrete one. However, repeated results are available which indicate that large interactive systems evolve into states where minor events can lead to a catastrophe. Discrete event and hybrid systems have been used in the manufacturing and automation domains to model system state changes within a process. Timed and untimed petri nets and state automata in addition to Markovian-stochastic perturbation and other models have been used extensively to model and control automated manufacturing systems. High level DEDS controllers have also been to guide the behaviour of robots based on sensory outputs. This book presents a collection of problems, modelling strategies, analysis tools, and theoretical frameworks for discrete events and hybrid systems within the robotics and automation domain.

Book Hybrid Dynamical Systems

Download or read book Hybrid Dynamical Systems written by Mohamed Djemai and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-10-13 with total page 341 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a collection of contributions defining the state of current knowledge and new trends in hybrid systems – systems involving both continuous dynamics and discrete events – as described by the work of several well-known groups of researchers. Hybrid Dynamical Systems presents theoretical advances in such areas as diagnosability, observability and stabilization for various classes of system. Continuous and discrete state estimation and self-triggering control of nonlinear systems are advanced. The text employs various methods, among them, high-order sliding modes, Takagi–Sugeno representation and sampled-data switching to achieve its ends. The many applications of hybrid systems from power converters to computer science are not forgotten; studies of flexible-joint robotic arms and – as representative biological systems – the behaviour of the human heart and vasculature, demonstrate the wide-ranging practical significance of control in hybrid systems. The cross-disciplinary origins of study in hybrid systems are evident. Academic researchers and graduate students interested in hybrid and switched systems need look no further than Hybrid Dynamical Systems for a single source which will bring them up to date with work in this area from around the world.

Book Modelling Analysis and Design of Hybrid Systems

Download or read book Modelling Analysis and Design of Hybrid Systems written by S. Engell and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-07-01 with total page 494 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1995, the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG), the largest public research funding organization in Germany, decided to launch a priority program (Schw- punktprogramm in German) calledKondisk– Dynamics and Control of Systems with Mixed Continuous and Discrete Dynamics. Such a priority program is usually sponsored for six years and supports about twenty scientists at a time, in engineering andcomputersciencemostlyyoungresearchersworkingforadoctoraldegree. There is a yearly competition across all disciplines of arts and sciences for the funding of such programs, and the group of proposers was the happy winner of a slot in that year. The program started in 1996 after an open call for proposals; the successful projects were presented and re-evaluated periodically, and new projects could be submitted simultaneously. During the course of the focused research program, 25 different projects were funded in 19 participating university institutes, some of the projects were collaborative efforts of two groups with different backgrounds, mostly one from engineering and one from computer science. There were two main motivations for establishingKondisk. The rst was the fact that technical systems nowadays are composed of physical components with (mostly) continuous dynamics and computerized control systems where the reaction to discrete events plays a major role, implemented in Programmable Logic Contr- lers (PLCs), Distributed Control Systems (DCSs) or real-time computer systems.

Book Path Planning of Cooperative Mobile Robots Using Discrete Event Models

Download or read book Path Planning of Cooperative Mobile Robots Using Discrete Event Models written by Cristian Mahulea and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2020-01-09 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Offers an integrated presentation for path planning and motion control of cooperative mobile robots using discrete-event system principles Generating feasible paths or routes between a given starting position and a goal or target position—while avoiding obstacles—is a common issue for all mobile robots. This book formulates the problem of path planning of cooperative mobile robots by using the paradigm of discrete-event systems. It presents everything readers need to know about discrete event system models—mainly Finite State Automata (FSA) and Petri Nets (PN)—and methods for centralized path planning and control of teams of identical mobile robots. Path Planning of Cooperative Mobile Robots Using Discrete Event Models begins with a brief definition of the Path Planning and Motion Control problems and their state of the art. It then presents different types of discrete models such as FSA and PNs. The RMTool MATLAB toolbox is described thereafter, for readers who will need it to provide numerical experiments in the last section. The book also discusses cell decomposition approaches and shows how the divided environment can be translated into an FSA by assigning to each cell a discrete state, while the adjacent relation together with the robot's dynamics implies the discrete transitions. Highlighting the benefits of Boolean Logic, Linear Temporal Logic, cell decomposition, Finite State Automata modeling, and Petri Nets, this book also: Synthesizes automatic strategies based on Discrete Event Systems (DES) for path planning and motion control and offers software implementations for the involved algorithms Provides a tutorial for motion planning introductory courses or related simulation-based projects using a MATLAB package called RMTool (Robot Motion Toolbox) Includes simulations for problems solved by methodologies presented in the book Path Planning of Cooperative Mobile Robots Using Discrete Event Models is an ideal book for undergraduate and graduate students and college and university professors in the areas of robotics, artificial intelligence, systems modeling, and autonomous control.
