Book Targeting Ion Channels for Drug Discovery Emerging Challenges for High Throughput Screening Technologies

Download or read book Targeting Ion Channels for Drug Discovery Emerging Challenges for High Throughput Screening Technologies written by Ciria Hernandez and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2024-06-07 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ligand and voltage-gated ion channels are highly regulated protein molecules that cross the cell membrane allowing ion flow from one side of the membrane to the other. They are ubiquitously expressed in human tissues and consist of one of the largest and best understood functional groups of proteins, with more than 400 members spanning nearly 1% of the human genome. They are involved in a variety of fundamental physiological processes, and their malfunction causes numerous diseases. In terms of the challenges faced in the effort to discover specific drugs in ancient and emerging diseases, ion channels are the third-largest class of target proteins after G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) and kinases. 15% of small molecule drug targets have been reported to be voltage- or ligand-gated ion channels, resulting in approximately 150 new drug candidates in preclinical and clinical studies. Of the ion channel targeting drugs found on the market, these were identified more than a decade ago, and many of the current studies are at various stages of scientific approval. Overcoming these challenges has led the field of ion channel drug discovery to transform over the past 15 years through major advancements in genetic target detection, validation, structure-based drug design, and drug modeling of cell-based diseases.

Book Artificial Intelligence and Visualization Advancing Visual Knowledge Discovery

Download or read book Artificial Intelligence and Visualization Advancing Visual Knowledge Discovery written by Boris Kovalerchuk and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2024 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Zusammenfassung: This book continues a series of Springer publications devoted to the emerging field of Integrated Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning with Visual Knowledge Discovery and Visual Analytics that combine advances in both fields. Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning face long-standing challenges of explainability and interpretability that underpin trust. Such attributes are fundamental to both decision-making and knowledge discovery. Models are approximations and, at best, interpretations of reality that are transposed to algorithmic form. A visual explanation paradigm is critically important to address such challenges, as current studies demonstrate in salience analysis in deep learning for images and texts. Visualization means are generally effective for discovering and explaining high-dimensional patterns in all high-dimensional data, while preserving data properties and relations in visualizations is challenging. Recent developments, such as in General Line Coordinates, open new opportunities to address such challenges. This book contains extended papers presented in 2021 and 2022 at the International Conference on Information Visualization (IV) on AI and Visual Analytics, with 18 chapters from international collaborators. The book builds on the previous volume, published in 2022 in the Studies in Computational Intelligence. The current book focuses on the following themes: knowledge discovery with lossless visualizations, AI/ML through visual knowledge discovery with visual analytics case studies application, and visual knowledge discovery in text mining and natural language processing. The intended audience for this collection includes but is not limited to developers of emerging AI/machine learning and visualization applications, scientists, practitioners, and research students. It has multiple examples of the current integration of AI/machine learning and visualization for visual knowledge discovery, visual analytics, and text and natural language processing. The book provides case examples for future directions in this domain. New researchers find inspiration to join the profession of the field of AI/machine learning through a visualization lens.

Book The Discovery of Islands

    Book Details:
  • Author : J. G. A. Pocock
  • Publisher : Cambridge University Press
  • Release : 2005-09-08
  • ISBN : 9781139446617
  • Pages : 368 pages

Download or read book The Discovery of Islands written by J. G. A. Pocock and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2005-09-08 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Discovery of Islands consists of a series of linked essays in British history, written by one of the world's leading historians of political thought and published over the past three decades. Its purpose is to present British history as that of several nations interacting with - and sometimes seceding from - an imperial state. The commentary presents this history as that of an archipelago, expanding across oceans to the Antipodes. Both New Zealand history and the author's New Zealand heritage inform this vision, presenting British history as oceanic and global, complementing (and occasionally criticising) the presentation of that history as European. Professor Pocock's interpretation of British history has been hugely influential in recent years, making The Discovery of Islands a resource of immense value for historians of Britain and the world.

Book Epitope Recognition Since Landsteiner s Discovery

Download or read book Epitope Recognition Since Landsteiner s Discovery written by M. Eibl and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Karl Landsteiner is best known for his discovery of the human blood goups. The revolutionary discoveries of this brilliant scientist in other fields have not received the recognition they deserve. His demonstration that poliomyelitis is transmissable showed the way of modern virology. His studies opening the field for epitope recognition, which he himself considered his main achievement, laid the foundation for research ongoing in our days. This book with its outstanding contributors is but a small tribute to this visionary scientist.

Book Mastering Project Discovery

Download or read book Mastering Project Discovery written by Elliot Bendoly and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-04-11 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introducing a comprehensive approach to invigorate project leadership, this book provides a framework – the OUtCoMES Cycle – for developing, managing, advancing, and optimizing engineering and analytics projects. All too often, issues of moral hazard and completion bias prevent engineering and analytics managers and team leaders from asking the critical question 'What’s the problem?', before committing time, energy, and resources to solve it. This book draws attention to the definition, structuring, option consideration and ultimately the addressing of the right problems, exploring the OUtCoMES Cycle framework that facilitates and energizes systematic thinking, knowledge sharing, and on-the-fly adjustment with an explicit focus on the maximization of value and ROI. Each chapter includes discussions and lessons in analytical and engineering problem identification, problem structuring, iterative problem development (mental and computational) and problem resolution, at least three embedded real-world case studies, and a closing 'Practitioner’s Recap' to contextualize key chapter takeaways. Written by a team of established academic scholars and practicing analysts and engineers, this is an accessible and culture-shifting action guide for instructors interested in training the next generation of project and analytics leaders, students of analytics and engineering, as well as practicing project leaders and principals.
