Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jesus gave the command to go and make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:19), he presented his strategy for The Great Commission. He did not say, "Go and find converts." He said, "Go and make disciples." His commission then and to us now is the model for a relationship that can be reproduced throughout generations. It is about the desire to teach and encourage new believers to become disciplined learners and students of Christ. I have served as a pastor for more than 36 years and love to preach, teach, and plant churches. However, my greatest joy is sitting at the table with a small group of disciples who are hungry to learn how to become wholly devoted followers of Christ-then turning them loose to do the same. That's my inspiration for this book. I want to pass on my discipling experience to you, while introducing you to a deeper and more inti-mate relationship with Jesus. When you look at Jesus' ministry, he concentrated on twelve followers for three years. He taught and demonstrated his kingdom values and methods until they could do the same. He healed-then they healed. He preached-then they preached. He prayed-then they prayed with others. And most importantly, he came alongside these men and loved them. In return, their love and devotion to Jesus was not about a new religion or cause, it was about him. That is discipleship. The Discipleship Group-Book One will provide easy-to-follow steps for you to establish your own group of Christian disciples and send them forth to establish generations of disciples to come. If you invite several saints to join you through these next 26 weeks, your growth as a Christian will accelerate like never be-fore. I pray you will take up the challenge of Christ's command to make disciples of all nations. If you do, then here is a simple way to fulfill the Great Commission. Jay Zinn

Book excerpt: If you are serious about being a disciple of Jesus Christ—really, truly serious—a discipleship group can help you achieve that goal. Jesus established this model for us by forming and leading the first discipleship group—and it worked. The men who emerged from that group took the gospel to the world and ultimately laid down their lives for Christ. Discipleship groups can create an atmosphere for fellowship, encouragement, and accountability—building an environment where God can work. In Growing Up: How to Be a Disciple Who Makes Disciples, Robby Gallaty presents a practical, easy-to-implement system for growing in one's faith. This guide offers a manual for making disciples, addressing the what, why, where, and how of discipleship. D-Groups, as Gallaty calls them, can teach you and others how to grow your relationship with God, how to defend your faith, and how to guide others in their relationships with God. Growing Up provides you with an interactive manual and resource for creating and working with discipleship groups, allowing you to gain positive information both for yourself and for others as you learn how to help others become better disciples for Christ.

Book Disciple I Becoming Disciples Through Bible Study Study Manual

Download or read book Disciple I Becoming Disciples Through Bible Study Study Manual written by Richard B. Wilke and published by Abingdon Press. This book was released on 2010-09-01 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: DISCIPLE is a program of disciplined Bible study aimed at developing strong Christian leaders. The study gives the Old and New Testaments equal time, emphasizing the wholeness of the Bible as a revelation of God. DISCIPLE draws upon the work of scholars, the personal Bible reading and study of the participant, and dynamic group discussion to aid understanding of the Bible. The first study in the program is DISCIPLE: BECOMING DISCIPLES THROUGH BIBLE STUDY, a thirty-four week overview of the entire Bible. Commitment and Time Involved Three and one-half to four hours of independent study each week (40 minutes daily for leaders and 30 minutes daily for group members) in preparation for weekly group meetings. Attendance at weekly 2.5 hour meetings. Study Manual Each member of the group needs a study manual and a Bible. The Bible is the text for the study and the study manual will guide group members in their study and preparation for the weekly group session. The study manual also includes suggestions for individual and study-related activities. Space is provided for taking notes while reading Scripture, for recording thoughts and questions arising out of daily study, and for notes during the weekly group session. The titles of the sessions along with theme words and theme verses, and major persons, events, and topics will set the sequence of the biblical story in the minds of the participants. The principal Scripture for each session follows the chronological movement of the biblical story. We recommend the New Interpreters Study Bible More Questions? Visit www.cokesbury.com/disciple.

Book Guide for Covenant Discipleship Groups

Download or read book Guide for Covenant Discipleship Groups written by Gayle Turner Watson and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2011-07-11 with total page 81 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Covenant Discipleship Groups have a long history of helping Christians grow as disciples. Based on the early Methodist class meetings, Covenant Discipleship Groups provide a way for Christians today to be accountable disciples of Jesus Christ. Q&A's Q: WHAT IS A COVENANT DISCIPLESHIP GROUP? A: Covenant Discipleship Groups consists of up to seven persons who meet together for one hour each week to hold themselves mutually accountable for their discipleship. They do this by means of a covenant that they have written. Q: WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF A COVENANT DISCIPLESHIP GROUP? A: Covenant Discipleship Groups are intended solely for mutual accountability and prayerful support for living as disciples in the world. They are not where our discipleship happens but where we make sure that it happens. Q: WHY DOES THE GROUP NEED A COVENANT? A: The covenants we make with one another help us keep our covenant with God. We make covenants with one another because we live in a world that has yet to accept God's salvation. We constantly face temptations to turn away from God, and we need some means of mutual support. John Wesley and the early Methodists understood this need and saw that nothing short of binding themselves to mutual accountability would suffice. By the grace of God, they agreed to watch over each other in love. Q: WHY JOIN A COVENANT DISCIPLESHIP GROUP? A: By joining with other Christians in a weekly meeting, members of Covenant Discipleship Groups learn to center their lives on Jesus Christ by following his teachings and supporting one another in living out the basics of Christian discipleship. Q: WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO ME IN A COVENANT DISCIPLESHIP GROUP? A: You will become more aware of God's grace in your life. You will find new ways of serving God and your neighbor. You will find your understanding of God's will greatly enhanced. Q: How WILL THIS BOOK HELP ME? A: This handbook is primarily a practical reference manual for starting, developing, sustaining, and incorporating Covenant Discipleship Groups into the mission and ministry of the church.

Book The One Step with Jesus Restoration Program

Download or read book The One Step with Jesus Restoration Program written by Robert Vann and published by Covenant Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2020-01-27 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A STRICTLY BIBLICAL PERSPECTIVE MINISTRIES has developed the WORD FOCUS FELLOWSHIP GROUP, as a Christian alternative to the world's recovery system, which addresses addiction by teaching individuals how to manage sin (addiction) through behavioral modification. Jesus Christ did not give His life on Calvary so a Christian could learn to manage sin but so that they could be set free from the penalty, power and eventually the presence of sin. God's plan for addressing addiction is far superior to man's plan because it not only restores a believer physically, socially and psychologically but it addresses the root cause of addiction, spiritual death. God's plan, salvation spiritually changes a person's nature and provides the potential for their soul to be restored (mind, will, and emotions) as well and addresses all of life's issues. A "WORD FOCUSED" FELLOWSHIP GROUP (Level 1) is a highly interactive, open-ended discipleship group based on 5 Biblical principles. To advance from one principle to the next the group process requires an individual to learn a memory verse and complete a designated exercise that must be shared within the group. It is a discipleship series that takes the "Body of Christ" back to biblical basics founded on the doctrines of salvation: repentance, rebirth, justification, and adoption, positional and progressive holiness (sanctification). Emphasis is placed on a believer understanding and accepting their "new identity" in Christ enabling them to "Walk in the Spirit." It is designed with a biblically strategic format with a five-fold in purpose. A STRICTLY BIBLICAL PERSPECTIVE MINISTRIES has developed a Facilitator Guide for use in conjunction with the "WORD FOCUSED" FELLOWSHIP GROUP. The Facilitator Guide is designed to assist counselors, lay counselors and mentors in facilitating the groups to assist participant in taking an in depth and personal view of the different factors in salvation which will assist them in developing an accurate view of their new identity in Christ.

Book excerpt: Self-initiation is killing our young men. Without strong mentors, boys are walking alone into a wilderness of conflicting messages about who they should be as men. This concise book is filled with practical steps to help men raise sons of consequence--young men who know what they believe, know who they are, and will stand up against the negative cultural trends of our day. Jon Tyson lays out a clear path for fathers and sons that includes specific activities, rites of passage, and significant "marking moments" that can be customized to fit any family. It's not enough to hope our sons will become good men. We need them to be good at being men. This book shows how fathers, grandfathers, and other male mentors can lead the way.

Book Making Small Groups Work

Download or read book Making Small Groups Work written by Henry Cloud and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2010-02-23 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lead small groups through astounding growth with principles from the best-selling books How People Grow and Boundaries. No matter what need brings a group of people together—from marriage enrichment to divorce recovery, from grief recovery to spiritual formation—members are part of a small group because they want to grow. This book by psychologists Henry Cloud and John Townsend provides small-group leaders with valuable guidance and information on how they can help their groups to grow spiritually, emotionally, and relationally. With insights from their best-selling book How People Grow, Cloud and Townsend show how God’s plan for growth is made up of three key elements: grace plus truth plus time. When groups embrace those elements, they find God’s grace and forgiveness and learn how to handle their imperfections without shame as they model God’s love and support to one another. In addition to describing what makes small groups work, Leading Small Groups That Help People Grow explains the roles and responsibilities of both leaders and group members. Employing tenets from the book How People Grow, this book equips leaders to understand the ins and outs of how to promote growth, and using principles from their best-selling book Boundaries, they show how to identify and find solutions for common problems such as boredom, noncompliance, passivity, aggression, narcissism, spiritualization, over-neediness, over-giving, and nonstop talking.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christian discipleship taken seriously can be a boot camp kind of process. I remember those days! During the Vietnam War, my birthday claimed number 49 in the draft. I was one of the blessed ones. I was already in great shape when I entered boot camp, weighing 185 pounds, and then still weighed 185 pounds when I finished number 1 in my training group of one thousand guys. But that did not mean I had not pounded my way through some very hard times, times that some others had not survived. That's like Christian discipleship, which again, if taken seriously, can be a difficult yet exciting process, and one greatly rewarding! For me, as a Christian from childhood, God has blessed my life with a full crucible of learning and now requires that I share that learning. I humbly do so in this book series. So are you just playing church? Are you really sincere? Do you urgently want to go to heaven? It's serious business. Come on! Let's start boot camp!
