Book Disciples Bible Study Journal

Download or read book Disciples Bible Study Journal written by Mitchell Durham and published by . This book was released on 2021-01-23 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: More than a journal, the Disciples Bible Study Journal is an intentional decision to engage personally with scripture. As you embark on this adventure of exploring, discovering, and journaling through God's word, the ultimate goal is to be transformed into a growing likeness of our Messiah, Jesus, and live as he lived on this earth. You can do this as an individual, but more ideally, set out on this adventure with peers who can share in the journey. Disciples Bible Study Journal utilizes sound principles of learning and has, at its core, three guiding principles: Contextual Integrity, Repetitive Reflection, and Guided Discovery. The format is unique in that multiple chapters are read through several times through the week to maintain context and background. Following the daily guide, you alternate between these whole sections of Scripture from the reading plan and a smaller Focus section that you will journal about using the guided discovery questions. A weekly memory verse is also part of the daily routine. The provided reading plans take you through the New Testament in a year, or, you can select a plan that covers the Old Testament once and the New Testament twice over a four year period alternating in "flexible quarters" between the OT and NT. An option is to fill in a blank 52 week custom plan of your own choosing. The Journal has space for recording 52 weeks of journaling. You can find out more by viewing the Journal website at DisciplesBibleStudy.com

BOOK REVIEWS Bible Journaling for Teens is an important resource and tool for teens as they seek to develop and mature. Journaling is a therapeutic technique that is often used to increase self-awareness and aid in emotional processing within mental health spaces. This book combines the therapeutic value with spiritual value. It is not simply a book with random scriptures and accompanying journal prompts; it is organized in a way that provides Godly wisdom for different aspects of a teen's experience - from growing in the Lord, to dealing with grief and loss, to dealing with disappointments, to learning how to honor and value oneself. Rev. Dr. Deb thoughtfully structured the prompts in a way that allows the reader to meditate on scriptures each week of the year, while being able to pour out their personal thoughts and prayers as they are led or as the Lord illuminates their understanding. My favorite part of the journal is that it encourages parents and/or trusted adults to go on this journey with the teen by being able to write encouragement to the teen for each journal prompt. This not only encourages spiritual, emotional, and social growth and development but it also strengthens the teen's awareness of their support system - a balance that is sorely needed in the adolescent stage of development. I highly recommend this book. Ashley Burton, M. A., Mental Health Advocate, Speaker, Educator This interactive Bible journal for teens by Dr. Deborah Scarborough was borne of a tradition begun with her children. The newest edition provides a sequel to Dr. Scarborough’s nascent publication, Bible Journaling for Kids: Putting on the Full Armor of God. They are broadly designed to engage children and teens with their parents, grandparents, and caregivers. Each in the series is grounded in biblical texts and developmentally stepped as appropriate to transitions from early childhood to adolescence. Bible Journaling for Teens provides Bible-based responses to adolescent issues such as the challenges of approaching adulthood, identity, peer pressure, and imaginary audience phenomena that make teens feel sensitive and self-conscious. I am certain these 52-week, strength-building exercises rooted in Bible passages will be especially helpful during this season of the novel coronavirus infections that have left families isolated and intrafamilial relationships strained. Journaling can be a powerful tool for healing. Be encouraged that studying God’s Word together in this journaling process brings renewed hope as well as strengthened family ties that foster skill-building, understanding, and application of Scripture. Dr. Frances Raphael-Howell, Professor of Psychology Montgomery College, Rockville, MD Dr. Scarborough’s Bible Journaling for Teens is truly a must have resource for every Christian Teenager who is seeking to genuinely grow in their relationship with God. As a former Youth Pastor I often sought creative ways to help keep teens engaged with the word of God and prayer on a daily basis when they were away from church and this Journaling experience is just it. It not only provides transparent and impactful insight into various scriptures, but also allows space for teens to develop their own thoughts and prayers. I strongly encourage every Parent, Pastor, & Youth Leader to make sure that your teens have this excellent Bible Journaling experience. Rev. Anthony L. Book excerpt: A Practical Guide to Creating and Sustaining a Culture of Disciple-Making in Any Church Over the last few decades American churches have produced plenty of converts but not as many mature believers. Studies show the majority of Christians don’t even understand the basics of faith. But how do you tackle such a big problem? Replicate shows church leaders how to make disciples who make disciples and get the rest of your church on board as well. This one-on-one relational ministry is how Jesus laid the foundation for His church that is still growing today, and it’s how we continue the work in our own local congregations. Learn the five marks of a healthy disciple-making church, how to influence culture, uproot misconceptions of the church and the gospel, and change your church and community. No more focusing on mere numbers, it’s time to grow in maturity and through multiplication.

Book The Disciples According to Mark

Download or read book The Disciples According to Mark written by C. Clifton Black and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2012-12-13 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Redaction criticism attempts to identify biblical authors' theological interests by examining their adaptation of sources. Focusing on representative studies of Jesus' disciples in the Gospel of Mark, this pioneering book by C. Clifton Black has become the standard evaluation of that method's exegetical reliability. Comprehensively reviewing recent scholarship, Black identifies three distinctive types of redaction criticism in Markan interpretation. He demonstrates that diverse redaction-critical interpretations of the disciples in Mark have bolstered rather than controlled scholarly presuppositions to a degree that impugns the method's reliability for interpreting Mark. The book concludes by assessing redaction criticism's usefulness and offering a more balanced approach to Mark's interpretation. This second edition includes a substantial, detailed afterword that revisits the book's primary issues, converses with its critics, and provides an update of Markan scholarship over the past twenty-five years.

This book was released on 2010-09-01 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: DISCIPLE is a program of disciplined Bible study aimed at developing strong Christian leaders. The study gives the Old and New Testaments equal time, emphasizing the wholeness of the Bible as a revelation of God. DISCIPLE draws upon the work of scholars, the personal Bible reading and study of the participant, and dynamic group discussion to aid understanding of the Bible. The first study in the program is DISCIPLE: BECOMING DISCIPLES THROUGH BIBLE STUDY, a thirty-four week overview of the entire Bible. Commitment and Time Involved Three and one-half to four hours of independent study each week (40 minutes daily for leaders and 30 minutes daily for group members) in preparation for weekly group meetings. Attendance at weekly 2.5 hour meetings. Study Manual Each member of the group needs a study manual and a Bible. The Bible is the text for the study and the study manual will guide group members in their study and preparation for the weekly group session. The study manual also includes suggestions for individual and study-related activities. Space is provided for taking notes while reading Scripture, for recording thoughts and questions arising out of daily study, and for notes during the weekly group session. The titles of the sessions along with theme words and theme verses, and major persons, events, and topics will set the sequence of the biblical story in the minds of the participants. The principal Scripture for each session follows the chronological movement of the biblical story. We recommend the New Interpreters Study Bible More Questions? Visit www.cokesbury.com/disciple.
