Book Control of Flexible Structures

Download or read book Control of Flexible Structures written by Kirsten A. Morris and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1993 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Flexible structures arise in significant important areas of application, such as robotics, large space structures, and antenna control. Difficulties related to sensing and identification hamper control of such systems. These problems require collaboration between mathematicians and engineers. To promote such collaboration, the Fields Institute sponsored a three-day workshop entitled ``Problems in Sensing, Identification, and Control of Flexible Structures'' in June 1992. This volume contains papers presented at the workshop. Topics range from theoretical research on the well-posedness of systems, to experimental implementations of various controllers. A number of controller design techniques are discussed and compared, and there are several papers on modelling the complex dynamics of flexible structures. This book is a useful resource to control theorists, engineers, and mathematicians interested in this important field of research.

Book Adaptive and Nonlinear Control for Rapid Maneuvering of Flexible Structures

Download or read book Adaptive and Nonlinear Control for Rapid Maneuvering of Flexible Structures written by Robert L. Kosut and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 91 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes research results on the design of feedback controllers for rapid slewing of flexible space structures, such as optical tracking systems. Two approaches evolved during this research. The first approach modifies the exact rigid-body time-optimal control so as to account for chattering near zero tracking error and robustness to flexible modes close to the controller bandwidth. Efforts to make this controller adaptive are also presented. The second approach uses a combination of feed forward trajectory generation with a standard linear feedback in the inner loop. The feed-forward generator is designed by solving a convex optimization problem which is an approximation to the time-optimal problem. The latter approach is effective for multiple input multiple output systems with independent actuator saturation constraints.

Book Modeling and Control of Magnetic Fluid Deformable Mirrors for Adaptive Optics Systems

Download or read book Modeling and Control of Magnetic Fluid Deformable Mirrors for Adaptive Optics Systems written by Zhizheng Wu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-10-21 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modeling and Control of Magnetic Fluid Deformable Mirrors for Adaptive Optics Systems presents a novel design of wavefront correctors based on magnetic fluid deformable mirrors (MFDM) as well as corresponding control algorithms. The presented wavefront correctors are characterized by their linear, dynamic response. Various mirror surface shape control algorithms are presented along with experimental evaluations of the performance of the resulting adaptive optics systems. Adaptive optics (AO) systems are used in various fields of application to enhance the performance of optical systems, such as imaging, laser, free space optical communication systems, etc. This book is intended for undergraduate and graduate students, professors, engineers, scientists and researchers working on the design of adaptive optics systems and their various emerging fields of application. Zhizheng Wu is an associate professor at Shanghai University, China. Azhar Iqbal is a research associate at the University of Toronto, Canada. Foued Ben Amara is an assistant professor at the University of Toronto, Canada.

Book Robust and Optimal Control of an Adaptive Optics System

Download or read book Robust and Optimal Control of an Adaptive Optics System written by Benjamin West Frazier and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Adaptive optics is used in optical systems requiring real-time correction of blurred images and has applications in astronomical imaging, free-space optical communications and high-energy laser beam guidance. A great deal of research has been done in optimizing the performance of adaptive optics systems, but little work has been done in analysis of the stability of these systems. This thesis outlines the design and operation of a high-speed adaptive optics system utilizing H[subscript]oo control to optimize the robust stability of the system. The system was put together using off the shelf commercial components, such as a CCD camera operating at 955 frames per second, a standard Xinetics Inc. 37 channel deformable mirror and a dual processor computer to perform computations. The system is also general purpose - it can be used in almost any application with minimal modifications and can be easily setup and operated by a minimally trained operator. The results show that the system has a dynamic range of 5 waves of focus (wavefront), an expected closed loop bandwidth of ~50 Hz and a residual error of 1/75 [lambda], rms.

Book Introduction to Adaptive Optics

Download or read book Introduction to Adaptive Optics written by Robert K. Tyson and published by SPIE Press. This book was released on 2000 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Adaptive optics systems and components have achieved a level of sophistication and simplicity that goes beyond traditional applications in astronomy and the military and into developments in medicine, manufacturing, and communications. This book was written for those interested in the multidisciplinary technology and those who need a broad-brush explanation without wading through thousands of journal articles. It follows the structure of a one-day tutorial taught by the author, including humor and sidebars of historical material.
