Moreover, the key notion of leadership deliverables: - enables a pragmatic peer discussion about how to tackle employee challenges - facilitates an unbiased succession-planning - is well-suited for specific challenges, such as distance- and/or agile leadership The chapters are logically organised. After an introductory opening, Chapters 2 thru 14 explain the 7 roles and 4 styles and how they combine into an operational matrix model. Chapters 15 thru 20 tell how the Direct Leadership model applies to specific challenges such as the introduction of new leaders, distance leadership, project leadership, stress, etc. Finally, the book ends with an appendix that explains how Direct Leadership sets itself apart from other contemporary theories and leadership models. Direct Leadership has successfully been applied across cultures and in a variety of leadership situations such as team leadership, project management, line management, leadership of leaders, agile leadership etc. More than 40.000 leaders worldwide have so far enjoyed learning about Direct Leadership during training programs conducted in both large international corporations and smaller organisations.

  • Pages : 156 pages

Download or read book Direct Leadership Under Pressure written by Patrick Jason Port and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2020-01-03 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dr. Port's research examines followers' perceptions of preferred leadership styles in various contexts ranging from crisis to routine. Using military leadership and follower response in varied contexts, the purpose of this study was to analyze how contextual considerations demand exibility in leadership style, especially when confronting crises or disruptions. While placing special emphasis on high stress crises, this study compared combat encounters, routine patrol, and basic training as it explored pre- ferred leadership practices from the perspective of subordinates. This research drew from the responses of active U.S. Marines, with the purpose of learning from followers the qualities they look for in their leaders when faced with di cult decisions under pressures of uncertainty and high stakes. This study captured fol- lowers' perception on six leadership styles: Visionary, Coaching, A liative, Democratic, Pacesetter, and Commanding based on the work by Goleman, Boyatzis, and McKee (2004). A Multi-Variant Analysis of Variance (MANOVA) was conducted to analyze the effect of combat context on perception of preferred leadership. This study provides foundational support that not all leadership styles were effective under different military engagement contexts, as different engagement contexts call for different preferred leadership styles. A practical benefit of this research would be the development of contextualised leadership model to provide advice to business managers and crisis responders charged with making quick, on-the-ground decisions under conditions of severe disruption or even existential threat. Dr. Port examines followers' perceptions of preferred leadership styles in various contexts ranging from crisis to routine, applying the results of his research to all business-related levels. Due to the way he was raised, and Marine background, his research interests have always revolved around leadership. Dr. Port has a passion for his God, his family, his country, and his U.S. Marine Corps. He spends his free time in the wild outdoors, archery hunting. He attended Saddleback College in California, Touro University in Orange County, California, and Trident University in Cypress, California, where he earned his AA, BSBA, MBA and, finally his PhD in Business Administration. His last duty station was Marine Forces, Europe & Africa, located in Stuttgart, Germany where he and his family currently live. He and his wife, Erin (he lovingly refers to her as Wren) plan to retire in Pennsylvania where their parents currently reside.

Book excerpt: Whether in the for-profit, not-for-profit, or government sector, organizations today face tough new challenges posed by changing global and domestic environments using diverse workforces. Leaders have to practice different styles appropriate to more complex and dynamic situations than ever before. They need to inspire trust, gain credibility, and implement innovations through others while remaining flexible and adaptable. Guided by a unique framework that looks at leadership across different sectors and functions, they examine what they view as the major leadership challenges in highly visible for-profit, not-for-profit, and government organizations throughout the world. Book Leadership and Organization in the Aviation Industry

Download or read book Leadership and Organization in the Aviation Industry written by Marc-Philippe Lumpe and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-22 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Leadership and organisational structures which are not adjusted to the cultural background of the employees concerned are most likely to produce sub-optimal results (House, 2004). Therefore it is necessary to develop appropriate leadership and organisational structures in order to fully grasp the cultural environment to be encountered in the professional world. This book presents a research project that was carried out to develop leadership and organisational structures in accordance with the requirements created by different professional backgrounds within the aviation industry. The identification of the different professional cultures was undertaken using a standardised questionnaire. The development of the questionnaire was carried out with the help of the GLOBE study (House, et al., 2004), one of the most extensive research efforts ever undertaken in the field of organisational and national cultures. The main characteristic of the GLOBE study is the development of nine dimensions which serve to identify and characterise any culture. These dimensions are referred to as 'core cultural dimensions'. Using this newly developed questionnaire, it was not only possible to isolate 12 different professional cultures, but also to identify their distinguishing traits which served as the base for the subsequent development of leadership and organisational structures. The survey was complemented by open interviews served to broaden and deepen the results gained with the standardised questionnaire. The research outcomes open the door to a new and important element of cultural research, complementary to those of organisational and national cultures. Although the study was carried out in the aviation industry, the results gained also appear to be transferable to other industries due to the large variety of professions isolated within the course of the presented study and the specific nature of the aviation industry itself.

It contains the idea that an individual is not powerless to shape his or her own destiny. When I think of Forming the Future, I feel happy, and in saying those words, the mark is raised of all that is possible to achieve. As a mantra it is a postulate in my consciousness for the magic that happens when spirit, soul, and body are in complete alignment.
