Book Diode Pumped Optical Parametric Oscillator and Optical Frequency Comb Generation at 1 5 Micrometers

Download or read book Diode Pumped Optical Parametric Oscillator and Optical Frequency Comb Generation at 1 5 Micrometers written by and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An instrumentation grant for the purchase of an tunable diode laser-amplifier, a rf synthesizer, and a rf spectrum analyzer is used to significantly enhance current research and support new investigations in optical parametric oscillators and wide-span optical frequency comb generation. Areas of research that benefit from the new capabilities include precision frequency metrology, optical communications, and multi-wavelength information processing. The fabricated diode laser at 790 nm has been utilized to generate tunable 1.6 um light using difference-frequency mixing in a quasi-phase matched periodically-poled lithium niobate substrate. It will also be used to pump an optical parametric oscillator for the generation of tunable 1.5-1.6 um radiation in the mW power range. The spectrum analyzer and synthesizer are to be used for evaluating the beat-note and phase noise characteristics of optical parametric oscillators and optical frequency comb generators.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the lectures and seminars presented at the NATO Ad vanced Study Institute on "Solid State Lasers: New Developments and Appli cations" the fifteenth course of the Europhysics School of Quantum Electronics, held under the supervision of the Quantum Electronics Division of the European Physical Society. The Institute was held at Elba International Physics Center, Marciana Marina, Elba Island, Tuscany, Italy, August 31 -September 11, 1992. The Europhysics School of Quantum Electronics was started in 1970 with the aim of providing instruction for young researchers and advanced students al ready engaged in the area of quantum electronics or wishing to switch to this area from a different background. Presently the school is under the direction of Professors F.T. Arecchi and M. Inguscio, University of Florence, and Prof. H. Walther, University of Munich, and has its headquarters at the National Insti tute of Optics (INO), Florence, Italy. Each time the directors choose a subject of particular interest, alternating fundamental topics with technological ones, and ask colleagues specifically competent in a given area to take the scientific responsibility for that course.

Book High Power CW Diode Laser Array Pumped Solid State Lasers and Efficient Non Linear Optical Frequency Conversion

Download or read book High Power CW Diode Laser Array Pumped Solid State Lasers and Efficient Non Linear Optical Frequency Conversion written by and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The goals of this program were: development of high-power, cw diode-laser-array-pumped, Nd:YAG lasers, and efficient nonlinear frequency conversion of their output. Two minislab laser heads constructed as a single high power dual-head oscillator (96W, multi-mode) were operated separately to support Q-switched and cw nonlinear frequency conversion studies and single-frequency injection-locking studies and the start of cw amplifier research. A cw singly resonant optical parametric oscillator (SRO) utilizing bulk periodically poled LiNbO3 (PPLN) for tunable mid-IR radiation using the Q-switched laser as the pump was developed, and SHG output at 532 nm was increased from 800 mW average power (15 KHz rep rate) to 1300 mW average power (8.4 KHz rep rate). Coherent laser radar with high-power, high-coherence sources was pursued through a highly-coherent master oscillator cw power amplifier approach. We operated one laser head as a (1OW TEM00) oscillator and the second laser head as a triple-pass amplifier achieving 26 W TEM00 output. More extensive experiments on cw diode-laser pumped laser amplifiers for high-power, high-coherence sources were carried out to test the ability of theoretical modeling to predict amplifier output power.

Book Pump Tuning of a Mid infrared Whispering Gallery Optical Parametric Oscillator

Download or read book Pump Tuning of a Mid infrared Whispering Gallery Optical Parametric Oscillator written by N. Amiune and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: Optical parametric oscillators (OPOs) constitute an important coherent, narrow-linewidth and widely tunable light source with applications in spectroscopy and many other fields. Their realizations based on whispering gallery resonators (WGRs) provide a small footprint and ultra-low thresholds, with demonstrations of tunability typically done via temperature variation. In this work, we show the pump tuning capabilities of a mm-sized WGR mid-infrared OPO made of CdSiP2. By tuning a telecom wavelength diode laser by 16 nm, we generate tunable light from 2708 to 3575 nm. Furthermore, we show controlled tuning in steps of 1 free spectral range (FSR) and the possibility of 12 GHz of continuous tuning. All these features are in good agreement with the theoretical predictions. We conclude that tuning from 2.4 to 4.9 μm is even possible, while still using commercially available near-infrared diode lasers. This work highlights the advantages of pump tuning of WGR OPOs and provides valuable insights for their precise control
