Book excerpt: Proud of his roots in Brooklyn and New York City Oreste Renato Rondinella was Professor of Educational Studies (presently Professor Emeritus) at Seton Hall University, South Orange, N.J. He decided to utilize his knowledge and passion in teaching to satisfy a long time desire to disprove the axiom “those who can’t do, teach!” He wanted to make a statement that this wasn’t true for those dedicated to the teaching profession. In 1983 Oreste returned to school for a post-doctoral degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. Subsequently, he directed two Marriage and Family Centers, Allegra Counseling Centers that were successful. He continued to teach for about ten years during this time. However, Oreste began to experience a great hunger and desire to write and retired as a professor- psychotherapist to write full time. He has completed three books: Sin Is Necessary, Illusion vs. Reality---Sounds Within and Without, and is completing Intrigue in Rome. Dr. Rondinella has traveled extensively in the last twenty-five years and conducted research and interviews that contributed to his books. As of October 1, 2003, Dr. Rondinella has resumed his independent practice of marriage and family therapy including individual psychotherapy.

Book Mein Name ist Peter Dietrich

Download or read book Mein Name ist Peter Dietrich written by Ronald J. Deatrick and published by Outskirts Press. This book was released on 2016-11-03 with total page 527 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While the people of the Palatinate Region in Germany were suffering through war and oppression during the 1600s and 1700s, North America was offering farmland and freedom to those who worked for it. In America, it was not about who you were but what you could do. The stage was set for a massive immigration to “The Promised Land.” Among those coming to America was young Johannes Peter Dietrich, the founder of a prolific Deatrick/Dedrick line in the new world. Peter’s journey would take him across the ocean to Philadelphia, down the Great Wagon Road to the Shenandoah Valley, and through the Cumberland Gap to the southern Indiana frontier. He would join the fight for freedom in the Revolutionary War; farm the fertile land of Virginia; and clear the wilderness forests of Indiana. His descendants would carry their fight for freedom, as they saw it, during the Civil War. The story of the Deatricks of Indiana and the Dedricks of Virginia all begin with one man. Take a step back in time and enjoy the saga of a family whose story is as monumental as the great land Peter Dietrich adopted as his new home so long ago.

Book excerpt: During the 1930s in the United States, the Works Progress Administration developed the Federal Writers’ Project to support writers and artists while making a national effort to document the country’s shared history and culture. The American Guide series consists of individual guides to each of the states. Little-known authors—many of whom would later become celebrated literary figures—were commissioned to write these important books. John Steinbeck, Saul Bellow, Zora Neale Hurston, and Ralph Ellison are among the more than 6,000 writers, editors, historians, and researchers who documented this celebration of local histories. Photographs, drawings, driving tours, detailed descriptions of towns, and rich cultural details exhibit each state’s unique flavor. The WPA Guide to Virgina documents the vital role the Old Dominion played in the history of the first 150 years of the United States and before. It is packed with historical information, particularly from the Colonial and Revolutionary years, and supplemented with photos of historic buildings and sites. Also worth note are the artistic photographs of the state’s ordinary people and its natural beauty, including the Shenandoah and Chesapeake Bay regions.

Book Virginia Place Names

Download or read book Virginia Place Names written by Raus McDill Hanson and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What Virginia county, river, mountain range and town share the same name--a name which means "Daughter of the Stars"? Any age group can easily find some surprises, and some humorous historical examples where the local residents had difficulties in agreeing on the name chosen. So the "mail can go through", post offices must have distinct names but geographical place names, which show much less originality and even a bit over-used, are rather frequent. The organization of the book into county areas and the largest independent cities, together with its index were planned to make it a ready reference. Adults will find the book has helpful and concise information for many places, a great amount of history as well as geography. The included information for many places make the book rank as a Virginia encyclopedia. -- Front book flap.
