Book Dimethyl Carbonate Production Process Cost Analysis DMC E11A

Download or read book Dimethyl Carbonate Production Process Cost Analysis DMC E11A written by Intratec and published by Intratec. This book was released on 2017-06-01 with total page 101 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents a cost analysis of Dimethyl Carbonate (DMC) production from methanol The process examined is a typical oxidative carbonylation process. This process is a non-phosgene alternative for DMC production, in which CO, O2 and methanol react in the presence of copper chloride (CuCI) catalyst. Although reaction occurs in the liquid phase, a heterogeneous-phase mixture forms and the product stream is withdrawn from the reactor in vapor phase. The vapor is partially condensed, treated for recovery of catalyst and then subjected to distillation operations. Unreacted methanol is recovered and recycled to the reactor. Purified Dimethyl Carbonate is obtained after separation of side-product water. This report was developed based essentially on the following reference(s): (1) US Patent 20030236428, issued to General Electric Company (2) US Patent 5685957, issued to Enichem Synthesis in 1997 Keywords: Non-Phosgene Process, Phosgene-Free, Oxidative Carbonylation, Enichem, Eni

Book DESIGN AND EVALUATION OF DIMETHYL CARBONATE PRODUCTION FROM CARBON DIOXIDE

Download or read book DESIGN AND EVALUATION OF DIMETHYL CARBONATE PRODUCTION FROM CARBON DIOXIDE written by Pichayapan Kongpanna and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 534 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A systematic computer-aided framework for sustainable process design is presented. The framework integrated with various methods, tools, algorithms and databases is based on a combined process synthesis-design-intensification method. The synthesis-stage involves superstructure based optimization to identify promising networks. The design-stage involves selection and analysis of the identified networks as a base case design in terms of operational feasibility, economics, life cycle assessment factors and sustainability measures, which are employed to establish targets for improvement in the next-stage. The innovation-stage involves generation and screening of the more sustainable alternatives through a phenomena-based process intensification method. The proposed framework was applied to the CO2-based DMC production process. A superstructure of processing routes including CO2 direct synthesis and indirect syntheses via urea, ethylene carbonate and propylene carbonate, was generated and evaluated to determine the most promising processing route, which was then analyzed in detail to identify design improvement targets. Through a phenomena-based method, new more sustainable process alternatives matching the design improvement targets were identified. For the evaluation of alternatives, the measures include sustainability metrics, economic potential indicators as well as LCA factors. The urea route with reactive distillation was found to be the best alternative, offering superior performance to the conventional BAYER process.

Book Carbon Fibers

Download or read book Carbon Fibers written by Soo-Jin Park and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-10-08 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains eight chapters that discuss the manufacturing methods, surface treatment, composite interfaces, microstructure-property relationships with underlying fundamental physical and mechanical principles, and applications of carbon fibers and their composites. Recently, carbon-based materials have received much attention for their many potential applications. The carbon fibers are very strong, stiff, and lightweight, enabling the carbon materials to deliver improved performance in several applications such as aerospace, sports, automotive, wind energy, oil and gas, infrastructure, defense, and semiconductors. However, the use of carbon fibers in cost-sensitive, high-volume industrial applications is limited because of their relatively high costs. However, its production is expected to increase because of its widespread use in high-volume industrial applications; therefore, the methods used for manufacturing carbon fibers and carbon-fiber-reinforced composites and their structures and characteristics need to be investigated.

Book Carbon Dioxide Mineralization and Utilization

Download or read book Carbon Dioxide Mineralization and Utilization written by Pen-Chi Chiang and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-03-04 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on an important technology for mineralizing and utilizing CO2 instead of releasing it into the atmosphere. CO2 mineralization and utilization demonstrated in the waste-to-resource supply chain can “reduce carbon dependency, promote resource and energy efficiency, and lessen environmental quality degradation,” thereby reducing environmental risks and increasing economic benefits towards Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). In this book, comprehensive information on CO2 mineralization and utilization via accelerated carbonation technology from theoretical and practical considerations was presented in 20 Chapters. It first introduces the concept of the carbon cycle from the thermodynamic point of view and then discusses principles and applications regarding environmental impact assessment of carbon capture, storage and utilization technologies. After that, it describes the theoretical and practical considerations for “Accelerated Carbonation (Mineralization)” including analytical methods, and systematically presents the carbonation mechanism and modeling (process chemistry, reaction kinetics and mass transfer) and system analysis (design and analysis of experiments, life cycle assessment and cost benefit analysis). It then provides physico-chemical properties of different types of feedstock for CO2 mineralization and then explores the valorization of carbonated products as green materials. Lastly, an integral approach for waste treatment and resource recovery is introduced, and the carbonation system is critically assessed and optimized based on engineering, environmental, and economic (3E) analysis. The book is a valuable resource for readers who take scientific and practical interests in the current and future Accelerated Carbonation Technology for CO2 Mineralization and Utilization.
