Book Advances in Machine Vision

Download or read book Advances in Machine Vision written by Colin Archibald and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1992 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes recent strategies and applications for extracting useful information from sensor data. For example, the methods presented by Roth and Levine are becoming widely accepted as the ?best? way to segment range images, and the neural network methods for Alpha-numeric character recognition, presented by K Yamada, are believed to be the best yet presented. An applied system to analyze the images of dental imprints presented by J C“t‚, et al. is one of several examples of image processing systems that have already been proven to be practical, and can serve as a model for the image processing system designer. Important aspects of the automation of processes are presented in a practical way which can provide immediate new capabilities in fields as diverse as biomedical image processing, document processing, industrial automation, understanding human perception, and the defence industries. The book is organized into sections describing Model Driven Feature Extraction, Data Driven Feature Extraction, Neural Networks, Model Building, and Applications.

Book Algorithm Selection for Edge Detection in Satellite Images by Neutrosophic WASPAS Method

Download or read book Algorithm Selection for Edge Detection in Satellite Images by Neutrosophic WASPAS Method written by Romualdas Bausys and published by Infinite Study. This book was released on with total page 23 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nowadays, integrated land management is generally governed by the principles of sustainability. Land use management usually is grounded in satellite image information. The detection and monitoring of areas of interest in satellite images is a difficult task. We propose a new methodology for the adaptive selection of edge detection algorithms using visual features of satellite images and the multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) method. It is not trivial to select the most appropriate method for the chosen satellite images as there is no proper algorithm for all cases as it depends on many factors, like acquisition and content of the raster images, visual features of realworld images, and humans’ visual perception. The edge detection algorithms were ranked according to their suitability for the appropriate satellite images using the neutrosophic weighted aggregated sum product assessment (WASPAS) method. The results obtained using the created methodology were verified with results acquired in an alternative way—using the edge detection algorithms for specific images. This methodology facilitates the selection of a proper edge detector for the chosen image content.

Book Mathematical Macroevolution in Diatom Research

Download or read book Mathematical Macroevolution in Diatom Research written by Janice L. Pappas and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2023-09-13 with total page 548 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: MATHEMATICAL MACROEVOLUTION IN DIATOM RESEARCH Buy this book to learn how to use mathematics in macroevolution research and apply mathematics to study complex biological problems. This book contains recent research in mathematical and analytical studies on diatoms. These studies reflect the complex and intricate nature of the problems being analyzed and the need to use mathematics as an aid in finding solutions. Diatoms are important components of marine food webs, the silica and carbon cycles, primary productivity, and carbon sequestration. Their uniqueness as glass-encased unicells and their presence throughout geologic history exemplifies the need to better understand such organisms. Explicating the role of diatoms in the biological world is no more urgent than their role as environmental and climate indicators, and as such, is aided by the mathematical studies in this book. The volume contains twelve original research papers as chapters. Macroevolutionary science topics covered are morphological analysis, morphospace analysis, adaptation, food web dynamics, origination-extinction and diversity, biogeography, life cycle dynamics, complexity, symmetry, and evolvability. Mathematics used in the chapters include stochastic and delay differential and partial differential equations, differential geometry, probability theory, ergodic theory, group theory, knot theory, statistical distributions, chaos theory, and combinatorics. Applied sciences used in the chapters include networks, machine learning, robotics, computer vision, image processing, pattern recognition, and dynamical systems. The volume covers a diverse range of mathematical treatments of topics in diatom research. Audience Diatom researchers, mathematical biologists, evolutionary and macroevolutionary biologists, paleontologists, paleobiologists, theoretical biologists, as well as researchers in applied mathematics, algorithm sciences, complex systems science, computational sciences, informatics, computer vision and image processing sciences, nanoscience, the biofuels industry, and applied engineering.
