Book Digital Circuit Simulation Using Excel

Download or read book Digital Circuit Simulation Using Excel written by Anthony Mazzurco and published by Gatekeeper Press. This book was released on 2020-09-30 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book develops techniques for simulating digital logic circuits in Microsoft’s Excel that provide a useful tool to both the student and the practicing engineer. It introduces the subject by showing how logic devices, taken from the standard 7400 family, can be modeled and stored in a library. These functions can then be combined by the user as building blocks to design more complex circuits, both combinatorial and sequential. The simulations not only allow the designs to be verified to ensure they provide expected outputs and states, but can also perform detailed timing analysis. Worst case timing conditions can be imposed to stress the circuits so that the resultant behavior can be observed. Methods showing how the user can add additional devices to the simulation library are also covered.

Book excerpt: Digital logic simulation has taken great attention for the past years. This is due to the advantages of computer simulation. Low cost, flexibility and simplicity are a few to count. In addition, simulation is important for design purposes, since it allows for step by step analysis and evolution. Lately, spreadsheets have been used to simulate digital networks. However, the resulting simulation lacks user friendliness. The user merely sees black boxes with formulas spread all around the worksheet. In order to make a simulation, one has to pass through the headache of inserting all the formulas manually in spreadsheet cells. Hence, a newer version is needed which gives users more insight to the circuit simulated, and facilitates the simulation process for them. This proposal describes a method for simulating digital logic networks using Microsoft Excel versions 5.0 or 7.0. MS Excel has important features that can simplify the simulation of circuit elements and make it as easy as a few mouse clicks. These include toolbars, menus, controls, dialog boxes, and graphics. These are considered as objects that have properties or attributes that can be changed or set. Also, they have methods that can be used to make the objects do certain functions. This is what Visual Basic code does. It is a powerful and easy to learn object oriented programming language. It allows the automation of almost any simulation process using functions and procedures that manipulate MS ExcePs objects through their properties and methods. Hence, a new design was created for digital gates, clocked flip-flops, and some clocked and unclocked MSI's. Connection is also simulated between different parts of the circuit. The simulation process is automated through mouse clicks on customized toolbars and menus. The layout of the circuit appears on MS Excel's worksheets and the programming is done using Visual Basic code. The final circuit can be made to look very similar to its layout in any digital design textbook. The whole process is appended by a special purpose help system that guides the user through the simulation process. This whole simulation package is named: DIGIXEL. In conclusion, DIGIXEL is a Visual Basic program developed through MS Excel to simulate digital logic networks. The purpose of DIGIXEL is to provide students, or even designers, with a helpful tool for solving practical logic design problems. DIGIXEL will hopefully be of benefit to all digital logic design students, and probably to some professors as well.

Book Electronic Filters

Download or read book Electronic Filters written by Vančo Litovski and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-11-02 with total page 437 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive overview of signal filtering, including an introduction, definitions of the terms and algorithms for numerical calculation of the properties of the transfer function in frequency and time domains. All the chapters discuss the theoretical background and explain the underlying algorithms including the iterative numerical procedures necessary to obtain the solutions. It starts by considering polynomial filters, offering a broad range of solutions and introducing critical monotonic passband amplitude characteristics (CMAC). It also describes modifications to the classical Chebyshev and elliptic filters to overcome their limitations. In the context linear phase low-pass prototypes, it presents filters approximating constant group delay in the equi-ripple manner for the first time. Further, it discusses new procedures to improve the selectivity of all polynomial filters by introducing transmission zeros, such as filters with multiple transmission zeros on the omega axis, as well as phase correction of selective filters for both low-pass and band-pass filters. Other topics explored include linear phase all-pass (exhibiting low-pass group delay approximation) filters; all-pass filters (exhibiting band-pass group delay approximation) with linear and parabolic phase synthesized directly as band-pass; high-pass, and band-stop amplitude characteristic frequency transformations to produce band-pass; and direct synthesis of linear and parabolic phase selective band-pass filters synthesized directly as band-pass. Lastly, for system (physical) synthesis, the book describes the algorithms and procedures for the following: cascade passive LC; active cascade RC; active parallel RC (for the first time); active parallel SC; Gm-C based on LC prototypes; and parallel IIR based on bilinear transformation of analog prototypes. Every algorithm, be it in transfer function synthesis or in system synthesis, is accompanied by a proper nontrivial comprehensive example produced by the RM software.

Book Electronic Experiences in a Virtual Lab

Download or read book Electronic Experiences in a Virtual Lab written by Roberto Gastaldi and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-05-11 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a collection of “lessons” on various topics commonly encountered in electronic circuit design, including some basic circuits and some complex electronic circuits, which it uses as vehicles to explain the basic circuits they are composed of. The circuits considered include a linear amplifier, oscillators, counters, a digital clock, power supplies, a heartbeat detector, a sound equalizer, an audio power amplifier and a radio. The theoretical analysis has been deliberately kept to a minimum, in order to dedicate more time to a “learning by doing” approach, which, after a brief review of the theory, readers are encouraged to use directly with a simulator tool to examine the operation of circuits in a “virtual laboratory.” Though the book is not a theory textbook, readers should be familiar with the basic principles of electronic design, and with spice-like simulation tools. To help with the latter aspect, one chapter is dedicated to the basic functions and commands of the OrCad P-spice simulator used for the experiments described in the book.

Book Complete PCB Design Using OrCad Capture and Layout

Download or read book Complete PCB Design Using OrCad Capture and Layout written by Kraig Mitzner and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2011-04-01 with total page 529 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Complete PCB Design Using OrCad Capture and Layout provides instruction on how to use the OrCAD design suite to design and manufacture printed circuit boards. The book is written for both students and practicing engineers who need a quick tutorial on how to use the software and who need in-depth knowledge of the capabilities and limitations of the software package. There are two goals the book aims to reach: The primary goal is to show the reader how to design a PCB using OrCAD Capture and OrCAD Layout. Capture is used to build the schematic diagram of the circuit, and Layout is used to design the circuit board so that it can be manufactured. The secondary goal is to show the reader how to add PSpice simulation capabilities to the design, and how to develop custom schematic parts, footprints and PSpice models. Often times separate designs are produced for documentation, simulation and board fabrication. This book shows how to perform all three functions from the same schematic design. This approach saves time and money and ensures continuity between the design and the manufactured product. Information is presented in the exact order a circuit and PCB are designed Straightforward, realistic examples present the how and why the designs work, providing a comprehensive toolset for understanding the OrCAD software Introduction to the IPC, JEDEC, and IEEE standards relating to PCB design Full-color interior and extensive illustrations allow readers to learn features of the product in the most realistic manner possible
