Book Differentiation and Immunology

Download or read book Differentiation and Immunology written by Katherine Brehme Warren and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-07-14 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Differentiation and Immunology is a collection of papers that deals with molecular specificity—the link between immunology and differentiation. One paper reviews the status of regulation in bacteria or viruses, and extends the results to animal cells. The paper also investigates a single aspect of the control of immunoglobulin through the use of plasmacytomas. Another paper discusses the role of macrophages in the minimum theory to possibly account for the energetics of the reaction with receptors, or to the frequency of antigen-sensitive cells. Some papers investigate the immunogenic function of macrophages, the transition from monocyte to macrophage, the factors influencing the formation of macrophage lysosomes, and the origin of macrophage lysosomes. Other papers also discuss the immune response as a model system for studies on cellular differentiation, as well as the differentiation for collagen synthesis in cultured cells. One paper suggests that in differentiation, the changes that can occur in the properties of protozoan cells, perpetuated for long periods, are reversible, and can be a means for survival—as every cell line is also capable of being a germ line. This collection can prove valuable to bio-chemists, cellular biologists, micro-biologists, developmental biologists, and scientists involved in immunology research.

Book Mechanisms of Differentiation

Download or read book Mechanisms of Differentiation written by Paul B. Fisher and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1990-08-27 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Significant recent advances in cell culture technology now permit a detailed biochemical and molecular analysis of differentiation in both normal and tumor cells. These studies are important in attempting to understand the complex factors involved in normal growth and development, as well as the abnormalities associated with carcinogenesis. Mechanisms of Differentiation, Volumes I and II, is comprised of review chapters addressing various topics of current interest in this important area of research. Topics discussed include genes controlling differentiation, changes in gene expression during differentiation, induction of differentiation, induction of differentiation as a mode of action of chemotherapeutic agents, and the effect of cell shape, growth factors and differentiation modulating agents on the differentiated cell phenotype. Mechanisms of Differentiation is valuable to researchers involved in differentiation and development, carcinogenesis, cell biology, chemotherapy, and immunology.

Book Growth Factors and Their Receptors in Cell Differentiation Cancer and Cancer Therapy

Download or read book Growth Factors and Their Receptors in Cell Differentiation Cancer and Cancer Therapy written by G V Sherbet and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2011-07-12 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent years have seen a considerable emphasis on growth factors and the elucidation of their mode of function, which has led to the recognition that growth factors, their receptors as well as downstream elements of signalling associated with their function might be potential targets in therapeutic management of human diseases. Humanised monoclonal antibodies raised against growth factor receptors have proved to be valuable for targeted cancer treatment and in patient management. This book reviews the latest developments providing insights into the signalling processes involved in morphogenesis and pathogenesis with emphasis on using the elements of the signalling cascades as targets for therapeutic deployment. Provides a fundamental understanding of the basic functions of growth factors and their receptors, describing how they are linked in biological processes Aids the development of therapeutic treatments for cancer Focuses on the interrelationships and convergence of growth factors and their receptors in development and pathogenesis and encourages greater cooperation and integration in the areas of developmental, cancer and cancer therapeutic research

Book Cell Cycle and Cell Differentiation

Download or read book Cell Cycle and Cell Differentiation written by J. Reinert and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is instructive to compare the response of biologists to the two themes that comprise the title of this volume. The concept of the cell cycle-in contra distinction to cell division-is a relatively recent one. Nevertheless biologists of all persuasions appreciate and readily agree on the central problems in this area. Issues ranging from mechanisms that initiate and integrate the synthesis of chro mosomal proteins and DNA during S-phase of mitosis to the manner in which assembly of microtubules and their interactions lead to the segregation of metaphase chromosomes are readily followed by botanists and zoologists, as well as by cell and molecular biologists. These problems are crisp and well-defined. The current state of "cell differentiation" stands in sharp contrast. This, one of the oldest problems in experimental biology, almost defies definition today. The difficulties arise not only from a lack of pertinent information on the regulatory mechanisms, but also from conflicting basic concepts in this field. One of the ways in which this situation might be improved would be to find a broader experimental basis, including a better understanding of the relationship between the cell cycle and cell differentiation.

Book Lymphocyte Differentiation Recognition and Regulation

Download or read book Lymphocyte Differentiation Recognition and Regulation written by David H. Katz and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-06-28 with total page 762 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lymphocyte Differentiation, Recognition, and Regulation provides an overview of the state of knowledge on cellular immunology. The focus is on animal work than on studies in man, although in certain areas human lymphocyte biology has been discussed in some detail. The book attempts to integrate information from diverse areas of cellular immunology, immunogenetics, and immunochemistry to form some cohesive concepts that can be perhaps utilized as a working foundation for students and investigators in various areas of immunology. The book begins with a general description of some of techniques and principles underlying the systems frequently employed in cellular immunology. This is followed by detailed analyses of lymphocyte differentiation, receptor function, and regulatory processes. The main points that emerge from such analyses are that the immune system is an infinitely complex and finely tuned network of cells, receptors, and molecules which interact with one another in a genetically controlled manner that is manifested ultimately in the process known as differentiation.
