Book Different People Same Old Stuff

Download or read book Different People Same Old Stuff written by and published by Dr. Jack Rosenfeld. This book was released on 2014-05-07 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: So, yet another self-help/self-improvement book. Why should you even consider it? OK, here are three reasons: –First, it zeros in on some of the most common problems people have in dealing with each other. These are repetitive. The people may be different, but the problems stay the same. The 12 skills covered include: learning to be a careful listener; developing empathy for others; controlling our egos; becoming an assertive person; learning to be accountable in relating to people; respecting others; improving communication skills; stopping the “mind reading” of others; breaking away from the need to always be right in dealing with people; how to stop gossiping; not meddling in others’ lives; and becoming a more optimistic person. –Second, the topics of ego control, respect, mind reading, gossiping, meddling, and always needing to be right are rarely, if ever, found in self development books. –Finally, the book is easy to read, very practical, relatively short, and really helpful. You’ll find it to be a motivating and self-empowering read.

Book Seekers of the Soul

Download or read book Seekers of the Soul written by Sherry Ward and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2009-02 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When doctors discovered a mass in Sherry Ward's kidney, they could not say whether it was malignant. Apprehensive about radical surgery and concerned by their uncertainty, she turned elsewhere. Armed with information from five psychics, she went against the medical odds. When the psychics proved correct, Ward's interest in psychic work intensified. Seekers of the Soul is the result of Ward's inquisitive journey into the world of psychics, visionaries, and intuitives who gain information using more than the traditional senses. Here Ward presents detailed profiles of seven individuals with exceptional abilities to sense and translate what to others is "not there." After interviewing numerous psychics, Ward chose the most principled, unique and skillful among them for Seekers of the Soul. Each person profiled uses his or her gifts to provide seekers with spiritual insight, emotional wisdom, or perhaps a connection to a loved-one who has crossed over. Although each psychic or intuitive divines his or her information differently, their clients benefit from the guidance, finding information relevant to their lives. For all who are intrigued by the extra-sensory realm and want to know how to take your soul to its highest potential, you'll find Ward's research and engaging profiles replete with insight and meaning.

Book Knowledge and Memory the Real Story

Download or read book Knowledge and Memory the Real Story written by Robert S. Wyer, Jr. and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2014-01-02 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Narrative forms of mental representation and their influence on comprehension, communication and judgment, have rapidly become one of the main foci of research and theory in not only psychology but also other disciplines, including linguistics, sociology, and anthropology. No one has been more responsible for the awakening of interest in this area than Roger Schank and Bob Abelson. In their target article, they argue that narrative forms of mental representation, or "stories," are the basic ingredients of social knowledge that play a fundamental role in the comprehension of information conveyed in a social context, the storage of this information in memory, and the later communication of it to others. After explicating the cognitive processes that underlie the construction of narratives and their use in comprehension, memory and communication, the chapter authors consider the influence of stories on a number of more specific phenomena, including political judgment, marital relations and memory distortions that underlie errors in eyewitness testimony. The provocativeness of the target chapter is matched by that of the companion articles, each of which not only provides an important commentary on Schank and Abelson's conceptualization, but also makes an important contribution to knowledge in its own right. The diversity of perspectives reflected in these articles, whose authors include researchers in linguistics, memory and comprehension, social inference, cognitive development, social judgment, close relationships, and social ecology, testifies to the breadth of theoretical and empirical issues to which the target chapter is potentially relevant. This volume is a timely and important contribution to research and theory not only in social cognition but in many other areas as well.

Book The South American Coffee Shop Chronicles

Download or read book The South American Coffee Shop Chronicles written by Ross W. Nielsen and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2013-03 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Some people think I didn't have a childhood, as they think I was born on a cold and wet Saturday morning at the age of 23 in the front bar of The Lord Forrest Hotel. I did in fact have a childhood, but it was spent on a wheat farm, but I hated dirt and country music so as soon I was old enough I left the farm. I ended up in a country city doing a trade ( motor mechanic ) for four years. After I had my trade papers in my hand I was out of there and down to the big smoke, a city of millions of people. I owe that city a lot as it turned me from a country youth into a man. I discovered many things, including motorcycles, race cars, the ocean, sailing and diving and also bookshops. I hated school with a passion, but I am thankful to my teachers who taught me how to read. The bookshops in that big city were amazing, every Saturday morning would see me on a bus heading into the city and I would comb the bookshops. Those bookshops were a turning point in my life that put me on a very different road to the farm boy I was supposed to be. From there I wandered around the country and finally landed a job in South America working for an American company. South America, it's people and the crazy guys I worked with was another turning point in my life. In my travels I noticed people seemed to live by a script, a script for life. Some poor souls had been given a bad script but they still lived by it, I worked out who gave them these scripts, good or bad. I discovered one's life script is vital in how we live our lives. One can rewrite one's script, but your belief system will try to stop you from changing your script. Firstly you have to learn how to over come your belief system, and then rewrite your script."

My mandate was to organize a Second Conference, consistent with the aim of the Society, which is the holding of interdisciplinary conferences for the presentation and discussion of papers on various as pects of time. Several participants expressed to me their wish to have a second conference held in Japan so as to emphasize the international and intercultural dedication of this Society. Dr. Fraser carefully evaluated this and many other suggestions, weighed the possible conference sites and our chances of raising the necessary funds to convene a meeting at such sites, and concurred with my conclusions that we should go ahead with the plans for a Japanese meeting. For the difficult and complicated task of raising funds and organizing a conference in Japan, I had to select and rely heavily on somebody both capable and reliable and also living in Japan. Thus, I asked the Reverend Michael Mutsuo Yanase, S. J.
