Book Media and the Dissemination of Fear

Download or read book Media and the Dissemination of Fear written by Nelson Ribeiro and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-12-03 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a diachronical and inter-/transmedia approach to the relationship of media and fear in a variety of geographical and cultural settings. This allows for an in-depth understanding of the media’s role in pandemics, wars and other crises, as well as in political intimidation. The book assembles chapters from a variety of authors, focusing on the relation between media and fear in the West, the Middle East, the Arab World and China. Besides its geographical and cultural diversity, the volume also takes a long-term perspective, bringing together cases from transforming media environments which span over a century. The book establishes a strong and historically persistent nexus between media and fear, which finds ever-new forms with new media but always follows similar logics.

Book Psalmen und Psalter Rezeption im Fr hjudentum

Download or read book Psalmen und Psalter Rezeption im Fr hjudentum written by Ulrich Dahmen and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2018-12-24 with total page 375 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is concerned with the great Psalms Scroll from cave 11 at Qumran as an example for the reception ("Fortschreibung") of biblical texts and books in early judaism. After methodological considerations the scroll is examined and reconstructed entirely in its material and textual extent for the first time. Detailed analyses of the text and the structure of this work show that 11QPsa developed from the final redaction of the biblical book of Psalms. In its unique text form and arrangement of Psalms it was composed in a qumranic milieu and functions as a work for a davidic figure.

Book Vorstufen des Exils Early Stages of Exile

Download or read book Vorstufen des Exils Early Stages of Exile written by Reinhard Andress and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2020-06-29 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Exile is usually defined as the time one lives elsewhere, involuntarily separated from home. However, exile can also be conceptualized more broadly as a process already starting at home, while traveling into exile and/or before arriving in the place of exile. This volume sheds detailed light on those early stages of exile.

Download or read book Words from Abroad written by Katja Garloff and published by Wayne State University Press. This book was released on 2005-09-01 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Examines the responses of German Jewish writers to the geographical and cultural displacement that is one of the lasting consequences of the Holocaust. When Paul Celan was charged with plagiarism in 1960, the ensuing public debate in West Germany threw the poet into a major personal crisis even though most German critics immediately came to his defense. This crisis coincided with a transformative moment in the history of Holocaust remembrance, its first generational reimagining in the wake of a number of highly publicized criminal trials. Words from Abroad takes its lead from this disjunction between public ritual and private crisis to chart the emergence of a new literary diaspora, examining German Jewish writers who were dislocated in the course of World War II and began rewriting their own displacement more than a decade after the war. The idea of diaspora had ceased to be a constructive element of Jewish culture in Germany during the nineteenth-century process of emancipation and assimilation, though this book argues that it becomes crucial in articulating the possibility of German Jewish identity after the Holocaust. Along with the works of Paul Celan, Words from Abroad examines selected German Jewish writers such as Peter Weiss and Nelly Sachs. The study of these authors is framed by theoretical reflections on the play of distance and proximity in German Jewish intellectuals after the Holocaust, including Theodor W. Adorno, Jean Améry, and Günther Anders. Drawing on postcolonial theory, diaspora studies, trauma theory, and psychoanalytical theory, author Katja Garloff offers an original and nuanced reading of the way in which these writers, in the wake of the Holocaust, experienced and variously created a vision of dispersion as both traumatic and productive. Words from Abroad is an important tool in investigating the works of these German Jewish writers and thinkers, but it is also a contribution to the interdisciplinary scholarship on trauma and displacement itself.

Book Von Richthofen bis Remarque

Download or read book Von Richthofen bis Remarque written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2016-08-09 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book The Return of the King

    Book Details:
  • Author : Michael K. Snearly
  • Publisher : Bloomsbury Publishing
  • Release : 2015-11-19
  • ISBN : 056766435X
  • Pages : 249 pages

Download or read book The Return of the King written by Michael K. Snearly and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2015-11-19 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The clear structure of psalm groups in Psalms 107-150 can be interpreted as signaling a renewed hope in the royal/Davidic promises. Each psalm group of Book V is organized around a theme or key word that is related to the royal/Davidic hope in the earlier sections of the Psalter: Psalms 107-118; Psalm 119; Psalms 120-137; Psalms 138-145; Psalms 146-150. These words and themes figure prominently at the major seam psalms of the Psalter – Psalms 1-2 and 89. Thus, the content and subject matter at the end of the Psalter is integrally related to the content and subject matter at the beginning. The editorial-critical method used by Snearly is an extension of the method used by David M. Howard, Jr. in The Structure of Psalms 93-100. Snearly also draws from recent insights in the fields of poetics and text-linguistics in order to establish a linguistically based foundation for reading the Psalter as a unified text. The methodology emphasizes parallel features, with special focus on key-word links. This method advances editorial criticism by not only discerning links within a group but also showing that those links do not occur with the same frequency outside of the group.
