Book A New Day in the Delta

Download or read book A New Day in the Delta written by David W. Beckwith and published by University of Alabama Press. This book was released on 2009-03 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Explores Mississippi’s school desegregation from the viewpoint of a white teacher A New Day in the Delta is a fresh and appealing memoir of the experience of a young white college graduate in need of a job as the Vietnam War reached its zenith. David Beckwith applied and was accepted for a teaching position in the Mississippi Delta in the summer of 1969. Although it seemed to him a bit strange that he was accepted so quickly for this job while his other applications went nowhere, he was grateful for the opportunity. Beckwith reported for work to learn that he was to be assigned to an all-black school as the first step in Mississippi’s long-deferred school desegregation. The nation and Mississippi alike were being transformed by war and evolving racial relations, and Beckwith found himself on the cutting edge of the transformation of American education and society in one of the most resistant (and poor) corners of the country. Beckwith’s revealing and often amusing story of the year of mutual incomprehension between an inexperienced white teacher and a classroom full of black children who had had minimal contact with any whites. This is history as it was experienced by those who were thrust into another sort of “front line.”

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Your Disgusting Head, Dr. and Mr. Doris Haggis-on-Whey reveal—through newly discovered discoveries—all the ways in which your head disappoints you. For many years the scientific and educational community has wondered and worried about the possibility that semi-sane scholar-pretenders would find the means to put out a series of reference books, filled with ludicrous misinformation and aimed at children. Well, we offer you Your Disgusting Head by Dr. and Mr. Doris Haggis-On-Whey. A world-renowned and much feared expert on everything, Dr. Doris Haggis-On-Whey has seventeen degrees from eighteen institutions of higher learning. With her husband, Benny, she has traveled the world many times over, has learned about all aspects of life, including outer space and food, first hand. The human body is beautiful and mysterious. The mysterious part reeks of cheese. But no part of your body is as scary and horrifying as your head! In Your Disgusting Head, you’ll find amazing information, such as: · The ear was invented and designed by Feranando de la Mancini Goldfarb, in 1911, which was also a good year for yeast. · Good Reasons for teeth removal: dentist did it; peer pressure; not sharp enough; found better teeth, like, on the ground; suspected of enjoying flossing; decay and mouth politics. · The real reason your ears can't hear your pets talking. The answer is simple: your pet is a mumbler." With the wit and irreverent sense of humor for which Dave Eggers and McSweeney's is known, comes the second volume in the revolutionary Haggis-On-Whey World of Unbelievable Brilliance books. More than just entertaining and informative, Your Disgusting Head will help you appear smarter, more in touch with your sensitive side and whiten your teeth. And much, much more that will likely sicken you.

Book Never Brush Your Teeth Again

Download or read book Never Brush Your Teeth Again written by Piero DDS P. and published by . This book was released on 2015-03-02 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Even though you may brush your teeth diligently and consistently every day you still have bacteria, viruses, biofilm and even worm-like creatures living in, on, and around your teeth? Between 30 billion and 100 billion "bugs" live in your mouth right this second-even if you just brushed your teeth. They are so resilient that even after a mere three hours from your ordinary brushing and flossing, the organisms can return-causing numerous health problems affecting more than just your mouth. These persistent organisms can cause not only periodontal disease, but may also contribute to other health problems including diabetes, heart disease, COPD, arthritis and even many cancers. So how can you begin to fight off these organisms taking over your mouth and health? Brushing, flossing and mouthwash are not enough. One reason is that everyone has different brushing habits and techniques. Some people miss the same spots repeatedly. Some brush too hard and damage the root structure. Some only spend seconds brushing their teeth, while others take more time to get the job done. Not to mention that the brush you use today is filled with the bacteria you brushed off yesterday! All these things add up to lackluster results and a mouth teeming with bacteria. In addition diet, age and how often you receive professional cleanings play a significant factor in the health of your teeth. In Never Brush Your Teeth Again you will learn: How bacteria, viruses and other organisms grow inside your mouth How periodontal disease affects your body and immune system How periodontal disease relates to heart disease, COPD, diabetes and even cancer How pharmaceutical companies make money from your dental issues Why two dental visits a year is not enough Healthcare has traditionally been blind to dental care. That's why, in the last 5,500 years, there have only been nine significant advances in the personal oral hygiene field. Now there is a tenth: Dental Air Force, which has taken one dentist almost two decades to now make available to the public. You can now have the opportunity to achieve a new level of hygiene for yourself and your family with this advanced and proven product."
