Aparecen entonces los Anales del Instituto Técnico de la Construcción y Edificación , que se publican cada año hasta 1946, en que dicho Instituto se adhiere al Patronato Juan de la Cierva del Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), pasando a ser un centro público de investigación en construcción, que se mantiene hasta nuestros días. No obstante, dos años después, hace ahora 60, se reanuda la actividad difusora del Instituto con una nueva publicación periódica, la revista Informes de la construcción , que se puede entender como la continuación de Hormigón y Acero y los Anales , y que se ha mantenido sin interrupción estos 12 lustros.

Una arqueología de la imagen, implica considerar a la imagen desde la intermedialidad (entre-medios), los cuerpos y las miradas. Concebirla desde una crítica de la cultura en una contemporaneidad atravesada por la crisis. La pregunta ¿qué son las imágenes? que se formula desde la debilidad de cierta inocencia de la escritura, adquiere toda su dimensión desde el momento en que se confunde imagen con visualidad o imagen con medios audiovisuales, dejando por el camino todos los restos de imágenes que no son visuales. Aún más, ese debate se torna más complejo, cuando en su trasfondo está la «memoria» del holocausto (o de los holocaustos); las imágenes de la crisis política, económica y social o los miles de refugiados, en la paradigmática imagen de un niño muerto en la playa, deambulando por geografías europeas. La imagen es, en efecto, «nómada», viaja por territorios y culturas. Entonces, la inocencia de la pregunta se transforma en la imagen frágil de los que no tienen imagen. «La propuesta de Víctor Silva Echeto, es una de las mejor articuladas que conozco para pensar posibles alternativas a la situación de impasse a que parece abocarnos el mundo contemporáneo.» JENARO TALENS (escritor).

The infinite array of possibilities that the merging of text and pictures provides is a garden of forking paths that critics have just started to explore. This is an art that operates as the crossroads of various disciplines, but whose specifications require a thorough understanding of its unique mechanisms. The explosion of experimental works and the incorporation of previously marginal (or nonexistent) genres and themes in comics have enriched an already fruitful art in ways that continue to surprise both readers and critics. This collection of essays offers a space of reflection on the cultural, social, historical, and ideological dimensions of comics. With this in the background, the book focuses on three main areas: the origins and definitions of comics; the formal tools of the medium; and authors and their works. The historical and formal approach to comics, as shown here, is still essential and the debate about the origins and definition is still present, but two thirds of this collection formulate other treatments that scholars had not started to tackle until recently. Does this mean that the study of comics has finally reached the necessary confidence to abandon the artistic legitimization of the medium? Or are they just new self defense mechanisms through alliances with other fields of academic interest? This book will add to the debate on comics, as did the international conference that led to it. It provides a channel of communication with an art, a two-headed medium that, like the god Janus, operates as a hinge, as a meeting point, as a bridge between pictorial and literary expression.
